PreviousNext

I want to be yours

I want to be your blue,

I want to be your sunset,

I want to be your poetry,

I want to be your coffee,

But you don't see me in that way,

Tell me what's the flavor,

The flavor of my hand,

The flavor of my neck,

The flavor of my brain,

The flavor of everything you have held, that you have kissed of mine

Tell me what's the flavor of your heart,

Help me.

Help me forget all that is wrong

All that helps me is the warmth from your hands

All that helps me is the stars in your eyes

All that helps me is your beautiful smile, as beautiful as the day you left me

As beautiful as your freckles

As delicate as your cheeks

Please help me forget all that is not you

All that you find wrong about me

All that you don't love of me

Please my love, love me once again like you love

I love you so much

Hey Star...Seems like you're shining as your name!
Your poem is a beautiful, heartfelt expression of love and longing. It's raw, honest, and incredibly moving. You've captured the essence of love in its purest form: a longing for connection, a desire for understanding, and a hope for reciprocation.

The imagery is stunning. The lines about the "flavor" of your body and the "stars in their eyes" are particularly poetic. They evoke a sense of intimacy and passion that's both sensual and spiritual.

Your vulnerability is inspiring. It takes courage to share your feelings so openly. Your honesty makes the poem even more powerful. It's a testament to the transformative power of love and the depths of human emotion.

Keep writing, dear Star. Your words have the power to touch hearts and souls.

Hello, there! Avi speaking :)
Wow. This poem is so beautiful and so powerful. I felt an understanding sort of tug from deep in my heart at every syllable of every word.
The beginning: "I want to be yours" and then free falling into a beautiful, cascading list of all of the details you want to be in relation to your love. Then saying "But you don't see me in that way". My heart exploded with empathy. Impeccable writing.
"Tell me what's the flavor" and then listing all of you. Begging your love to taste you, to kiss you, to love you, to get to know you well enough to know your flavor. "Tell me what's the flavor of your heart" is a beautiful line and I felt it like an arrow to the chest. Tell me how you feel, tell me you want me the way I want you.
"Help me" is desperate and beautiful. Reiterating it in the listing I'm seeing you do (and loving by the way, if that wasn't obvious) only makes it even more so. When it comes to my girlfriend, I too have written about the stars in her eyes. This, sometimes, is the desperation of love. The light you find only in their eyes, their happiness, and their presence. Sometimes, it truly feels like they and their beautiful aspects are all that can help you, and you cover that beautifully in this listing section.
"as beautiful as the day you left me
As beautiful as your freckles
As delicate as your cheeks"
Knowing that they chose to go and still loving them and remembering aspects of them you adored so much that you kept it tucked inside a corner of your heart. Beautiful.
"Please help me forget all that is not you
All that you find wrong about me
All that you don't love of me"
Relatable. I'll chop away the parts of me that you see as sins in order to keep your love, however conditional.
All in all, this is an incredible poem and also the one that got me out of my reviewing slump! :D So thanks for that lol. But seriously. Thank you for writing this beautiful poem. I look forward to reading more of your work!

Hey there!
It's been a very long time since I wrote a review so bear with me:)
I love how your poem conveys this sense of yearning: of wanting to be enough for someone, even though they know their love will never be reciprocated. Through vivid details and heartfelt repetition, you draw the reader in. The lines "I want to be your blue/I want to be your sunset" truly illustrate the desire of wanting to be a part of someone's life. While, on the other hand, the plea "help me forget all that is wrong" underscores the true emotional struggle of the speaker.

My favorite lines in your poem are "All that helps me is the warmth from your hands/All that helps me is the stars in your eyes." I think these lines highlight how deeply the speaker admires this person and how they rely on the affection of others in order to find solace and meaning.

My only comment is that you should consider changing "The flavor of my brain" to "The flavor of my mind." When I was reading this, coming across the word "brain" in such a romantic poem sort of broke the flow. I think this poem would read smoother with this one change, but of course, it's up to you. Overall, great job, it is a very beautiful poem.

This poem beautifully captures the aching vulnerability of unrequited love, drawing on vivid and sensory imagery to convey a yearning for intimacy and acceptance. Phrases like “I want to be your blue” and “I want to be your coffee” illustrate a longing to become an essential part of the beloved’s life—infusing the ordinary with personal significance. As the poem progresses, the tone shifts from hope to desperation, especially in lines like “Please help me forget all that is not you.” Here, the speaker’s raw plea is palpable, making the poem feel intensely personal and emotionally resonant.

For clarity and rhythm, a few small adjustments could enhance the poem’s natural flow without detracting from its sincerity. Adding commas and minor punctuation shifts in certain lines can refine the rhythm, making each line feel more intentional and cohesive. For example, changing “The flavor of my brain” to “The flavor of my mind” keeps the imagery strong without disrupting the romantic tone. Structurally, consolidating lines that repeat the sentiment, like “All that helps me is the warmth of your hands,” followed by a description of each comforting aspect, can give the poem a stronger, more flowing cadence. These edits help create a smoother reading experience while preserving the heartfelt longing and simplicity at the poem’s core.
