On the Edge

PreviousNext

I’m standing on the edge again. Wasting time, stalling. I can’t seem to figure it out yet. What brought me to this dusty old building in the first place and why didn’t I run as soon as I realized where I was. Some things it seems I will never understand. And if I never will what is the point in trying to?

Their footsteps are nearing, they sound like elephants romping over brittle wood planks. One more step and it’s my doom. One right jump and I just bought myself some more time. There are too many decisions to make that cause to much reaction. What will I do. Christian always told me I was never the quickest to respond. I close my eyes.

“Gordan?” I’m furious, what is he doing here??

Come on, Magic, I thought you could fly,” He says with a smirk. “oh wait ONLY I can!” I frown searching for the best way to hide my deep emotions because I really do need his help right now. In half a second I know the drill and I hop onto his back.

“Geez. Kid. Get heavier er somethen?” Gordan pretends to be strained. I roll my eyes then smack him hard on the shoulder.

“Shut-up. I don’t care about any of that right now.” Someone should have burned those words before they reached Gordan’s ears. Maybe those weren’t the right ones for this particular moment. His teasing wasn't actually about my weight and he knows very well that I know what he's really talking about.

We were already in the air when I said it. And he of all people on earth had to be the only one to hear. Gordan stopped moving. Our upward velocity turned into a downhill drop ride.

“WHAT?” he screams over the cold air rushing at the sky. “YOU DON’T CARE? IS THAT WHAT YOU SAID?!”

I couldn’t believe it, Gordan was going to kill us both right now by letting us fall right out of the sky and he’s laughing?

“Ok, okay I’m sorry. I mean calm down. Or up I guess. Please don’t kill me, we need to talk about this,” I say, terrified out of my mind holding the last of my sanity to keep myself calm.

Gordan still smiles to himself I think, but I’m not sure. I’m not sure how Gordan really processes things actually. At least he starts to fly again.

Underneath us the city looks huge and tiny at the same time. There are tiny little multi-colored dots everywhere. Some are yellow, blue, green lighter shades of blue and yellow and a weird orangey color every so often. All those people I mean… do they really think they are something.

The thin clouds bold enough to be in the sky are misty blue, they sparkle like crystals and I glide my fingers through them. I forget about everything, who I am, why I’m doing this and about today. Then I remember that Gordan’s here too. And the unease finds a way back to me.

I don’t say anything and neither does Gordan. We fly the rest of the trip in silence until I feel his back muscles tense. “What’s wrong,” it’s me that speaks first. No response.

Hi Snowfire!
First of all, I agree with Tallon45 that the ending was amazing. I can't wait to read more. I just have one quick question. Does Magic like Gordan or hate him? She/He hit him on the back of the head playfully and then was worried if he was going to kill her. Which one is it? Also, come to think of it, is Magic a boy or a girl? I could not tell. Overall though I like what you have done here. Great job!

Love the ending! “ok, okay I’m sorry. I mean calm down. Or up I guess. Please don’t kill me, we need to talk about this.” there should be a comma there instead of a period because you indicated someone saying something. “ok, okay I’m sorry. I mean calm down. Or up I guess. Please don’t kill me, we need to talk about this,” the same for here, “Common, Magic, I thought you could fly.” He says with a smirk. should be “Common, Magic, I thought you could fly,” He says with a smirk. And common, should be com on, or c'mon.

Thanks I'll fix those

This being a prologue, I think you did a good job grabbing the readers attention. Also you did a fine job in descriptions. Are you going to be continuing the story, because I would enjoy finding out what is going on.
You do have some spell check and punctuation errors, then it'll be all good.
Please continue writing, your doing great.

I'm glad you liked it, it does need some proof reading. I appreciate your advice.

Hello Red here ready to review!

So....superheroes. It's been done a lot of times before but hopefully you can add something new. After reading this I don't see a cliche in sight but there are nitpicks and feedback I would like to give you. Let's start shalll we.

The first thing is I find this kind of confusing. There are many ways you can confuse a reader and for me it's on how you write.

A few comments on the text below. I wouldn't just state I'm furious in that context. It's kind of awkward there because it should show how his anger rises as this character shows up to him. I would also be more descriptive with it. Saying something like "I clench my fist and feel the heat of anger when I see his [insert insult here] face.

" “Gordan?” I’m furious, what is he doing here?? "

What does common mean? Is he doing something that he commonly does. I don't know anybody who talks like that. I believe I've heard that phrase before or something like it but it's stil awkward.
" “Common, Magic, I thought you could fly" "

A few more of those in there but I am not going through them all.

It's better than I though when reading it more than once. A few more descriptions would be nice and exacuting what the character are like more would help too. If this is a prolog this should introduce more of the world and characters. I think this will be a great story but get someone else to read it next time.

Never stop writing,

Red.

To answer your question about "common", I think the author meant "come on or c'mon."
And, yes, I also agree with everything else you have said.

yeah thanks Artstyx, that's what I was trying to say by common. this prologue part of the story was just something that happened in my spare time. It is a little confusing (sorry for that) the actual story explains everything. but thanks for the feedback
