The Italian Secretary by Caleb Carr?

So I have this book (The Italian Secretary) and it's a book that has Sherlock Holmes in it but truthfully I'm very nervous about reading it.

Have any of you read this book before and could hopefully voice your opinion about it?

I hate to say I have never read it. Why are you nervous though?
Just read it, if you don't like it put it down and move on. If you do like it well then!
You should base your opinion on your reading, not everyone else's opinion!

This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much all of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green pieces of paper, which was odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy.
