'Awakening' - Something I wrote when I was 8-10

I don't remember how old I was exactly... but I was younger, that's for certain. Sadly, I think it's better then anything I've written as of late -Snickers-. Anyway, I'm thinking of re-writing it? Yes? No? Any who, feedback is loved!

Chapter 1

Lady’s games have gone too far

My breath quickened and I sprinted through the dense, lush woods. “I have to keep running, I must escape.” I reminded myself. She was fast and I thought I was faster until I heard that laugh. Grabbing at Sadiki, my loyal gray wolf, we ran faster. Dodging every obstacle, as we had no choice. No signs of any help. “Everybody has evacuated!” I thought to myself, “Oh why didn’t I listen!”

For weeks, everybody had been evacuating, except me, we all knew it was coming but I had to be stubborn and continue hunting. However, I couldn’t stand the thought of a perfect hunting season going to waste. The deer where grand, the fur was thick and there had been no signs of an early winter. Suddenly A flash of light came whizzing by and cold darkness moved around us. “Sadiki! Keep running!” I screamed. As the snow began to fall heavily. I pulled my bag around to my front and started digging through as I ran. Mumbling to myself about how unorganized, I was.

A loud yelp caused me to stop. Behind me, Sadiki had been caught by the scuff of the neck by a shadow bear, and fighting for her life. The great bear threw her to the side, and as Sadiki hit a tree the bear snorted, and prepared to charge. I didn’t find my book but I did find my silver dagger. The bear looked me straight in the eyes as if to say, “You don’t have the guts.” I stole a peek at Sadiki, she… wasn’t moving. I looked at the bear, which had obviously seen me look at the wolf, and I whispered, “My heart says to tear you apart but my brain says not to, I know this isn’t your doing it’s her’s.” The bear turned its head and charged for me I quickly jabbed my dagger into his side and ran to Sadiki’s.

She wasn’t breathing or moving. I quickly looked around to make sure she hadn’t caught up, the bear lay dead and my bloody dagger proved it. I looked back at Sadiki. I had to move her, Letting my best and truest friend be eaten by one of her beasts would not be honorable.

I brought her into a secluded cave along the edges of gold woods, and covered her body in stone. I was alone now. Miserably alone. Nevertheless, I had to press on. The shadow bear was a mere pawn in her Game. Now that she is certain I’m still here, she will stop at nothing to kill

Me. No one knew why the she despised shamen, why she herself is one. No one knew her real name either.

I rested at the cave for the night and started for Charmers ridge in the morning. It was a little warmer, which was a good sign for me, because it meant the she had lost my trail. I was still on my guard though. As I walked along Pigeons Creek, I heard a low growl. A sheer white coyote had been following me and had finally caught up. A light similar to the one from the bear whizzed by and snow fell again. The coyote bounded at me I grabbed my book and yelled as loud at I could “Nightglade! Time for this beast to sleep!” and the coyote fell into a deep slumber. We have always been taught not to kill a creature unless for food or the beast is much bigger and there is nothing else to do.

I knew at that moment if I was to join the others I would just put them in fatal danger. So I ran faster then I ever could before through the creek and across Flat Plains until I was in my element. I ran until I reach Lotus Spring the town was empty the she had been here. I walked slowly through the ruins of my hometown; I remembered when I first left home to go to a shaman training camp. My mother wasn’t home and my father was gone in the fields. I just packed up and left I did leave them a note though saying good-bye.

Now it was gone everything my training was done my village was gone, my best friend had died and my parents had died too.

I had nothing, and with nothing to lose, I was dangerous. I wanted revenge, sweet revenge, and I knew how to get it.

I rested the night and ate in the morning I was energized and ready. I ran to the Cold Lairs to destroy her from the core if I could do that I could get her for all she’s done to me. As I reach the Cold Lairs, I looked up at the grand ice palace, “A guard at every entrance and a traitor behind every door.” I thought to myself. I continued looking around until I saw a door with larger guards then the rest, they where even larger then the entrance guards. I took a deep breath and pulled out my staff, I hid behind a larger mound of snow and began to chant and dance “I call the spirits of the war, allow my entrance to kill this boar she has gone too far, it’s time to fix my emotional scare!” The guards looked at each other nodded, the left one headed straight for me, and the other took three steps and fell to the ground.

As the other came closer he to fell to the ground. I snuck in through that back door. I quickly ran back out though, it was colder in there than it was outside! I grabbed one of the guards jackets and slid it on, I wasn’t quite sure what kind of creature they where, I had never seen them before. However, that was not of the importance. Therefore, I pressed on.

As I re-entered the icy castle my breath quickened, it was gorgeous, but the evil lurked in the air. Sneaking from room to room, I searched for her. I remembered when the Shamen thrived, and being the only magic people, it was a great day when one was born. We would always hunt with people of many different tribes and seasons, luring animals out with our enchanting songs and sometimes we would even entertain them with little tricks.

But that was over it was now a tremendously special event to meet one who has lasted past there first year of life, or one at all for that matter. She Would kill them on sight one day when finishing a village of shamen off, a farmer said she was going to freeze herself when she was the last shaman and wake-up in the future to take over the world for what they did to her. However, no one knows what ‘they’ did to her. Now that doesn’t matter because she will pay for what she has done.

I peered into the rooms as I passed them to make sure no one saw me. In one room, I saw a smaller book self and a cozy chair by a fireplace, but fire wasn’t coming out because the wood was frozen. The wood gleamed its frost as if it where proud to be in the home of her. In another room, I saw a never-ending supply of spell books, staffs and daggers. I snuck in to stock up on daggers, when I was finished I headed back into the hall.

I heard voiced approach and I was saving my rage for her so I ducked an ice bandit and a Highwayman came into view they where speaking a language I didn’t under stand. So I disregarded them and when I was positive they wouldn’t see me I continued down the hall. Continually ducking to hide from enemies as I made my way through the cold palace

was easy until I hit the first flight of stairs I heard footsteps above and behind me.

With a minute to think, I reach for a nearby window and hoisted myself out. I held the ledge and listen so I would now when they had passed. The footsteps stopped and I heard a male talking. He spoke in a low displeased voice “Another traitor to my mum? Oh she won’t be pleased, you lousy merchant spy! Bring him to her on the top floor.” A low grunt proved that this man needed help.

As the footsteps turned quieter, I looked in to see if it was safe to continue. It was, so I pulled myself in and quietly as possible and dashed up the steps. I caught up to the merchant and the same type of beast that guarded the back door, He held him by the arm.

The merchant groaning from the pain, he just let the beast take him, he had given up, His already rugged clothes where all bloody, His black hair all tussled and messy, and his arms and legs bound. I went quietly behind the beast, took out my dagger and stabbed it into his back. As he toppled down the stairs from the shear pain, I grabbed the merchant and dashed up the stairs when I found an empty room I entered quickly and closed the door.

He looked up and was quite startled about what just happened. He whispered in a weary voice “wh...Who are you? Why did you save me? I...if that’s what your doing.”

I hushed him and replied, “I would help any one who is working against her.”

When I moved my hand from his mouth he stammered, “A…are y…y...you a Sha…Shaman?” He looked into my eyes with such amazement when I nodded my head.

I did a quick healing spell used mostly for broken bones. He looked much better. His eyes gleamed, he stopped bleeding, and his voice became firm and masculine. He looked furious. He told me his story how his village was under watch for possibly harboring shamen and how he wanted to help his people so he pretended to spy on shamen but was really spying on her.

However, he was curious “My name is David. My I ask yours?” He asked “Tarika. Your name it stands for beloved. Does it not. I asked curiously.

“Yes it does I was born of a family with thirteen children and we all got along.”

We checked the hallway and now that I knew, what floor she was on my search would soon end.

We started up the stairs not saying a word. We both had daggers at hand. Now that another life was with me, I feared losing it. However, it would be too late to convince him to leave if I tried so I talked myself into believing that if he died I would not care. However, in the back of my mind I wished he would convince me to quit and take me somewhere I could be hid. It grew colder as we walked up the stairs I pulled the jacket tighter around me to keep warm.

He still had his pass to get by the monsters coming down the steps so he tied rope on my wrists and flashed his pass at every beast that passed us. I guessed the news hadn’t gotten to her yet. He ruffled up my hair, ripped my clothes a little, and took my bag so it looked like I had been forced into the binding. It must have done the trick because no one questioned us.

It was all going great until one highwayman stopped us and advised, “My friend your tying skills are terrible. Let me show you how easy she could escape and how to really tie’er up.” He roughly grabbed the rope, slid it off and used one hand to hold me to the wall I pretended to struggle to get away. He singled for David to hold me. David quickly, as roughly looking as possible grabbed my hands and held them in front of me. He looked pretending to be curious of what the highwayman was doing. The highwayman explained what he was doing “You see you have to tie each hand itself. Real tight.” He explained as he tightened the ropes around my wrists “Then bind them together, try and leave some rope for you to hold.” He finished as he handed the rope to David. David quickly thanked him as we continued.

After two flights of steps, I had to stop him and get him to loosen the ropes just a bit. It took about half an hour but we where on our way again. We where a few flights of steps away from her so he handed me a dagger that, thanks the highwayman, I could hide behind the ropes.

We where so close to our target yet far away. The stairs felt like they got longer and so many guards that kept stopping us for I.D. However, we eventually got to the top floor. We started to look around it was the coldest on the top floor but David didn’t seem to mind.

We turned from hall to hall trying to find her. It was the third hall we had been down on this floor. Then we saw a dim light behind a door. We looked around to make sure no one was looking. When we where positive it was safe, we pressed our ears to the door. We heard small dainty footsteps and a female voice from the other side. I tested the handle the door, it was unlocked.

I slide off the ropes and took my bag. I pulled out a staff; every shaman knows if they’re holding a staff, no magic can harm them. David asked me in a low settle voice, “Are you ready, because I’m as ready as I’ll get.” I shook my head in agreement. Then he whispered “on the count of three. One, two.” He pause then shouted “Three!” We flew into the room and held our daggers battle ready.

There she stood. She wasn’t as horrid looking as the stories suggested. Her hair was short and strawberry blonde-haired woman. She was at least five feet tall, and dressed in winter dress. Her eyes where as blue as the sky. She was alone in this room.

She sat down and enthusiastically sassed, “Well this isn't a fair fight at all is it? Two against one and I’m un-armed? Elaina Dehaki doesn't play that way. ” Her voice had a winter’s accent. She pointed at David, grabbed a spell book from a self and did Nightglade but hers was much stronger, I held myself together as he hit the floor. “He’ll be lucky if he lives long enough to wake up. Now to finish the last of the shamen!” she exclaimed. I charged myself at her dagger ready to kill. As I ran by, she moved out of the way and grabbed my staff. I turned around, jabbed her side with my dagger, and let it go. I fell to the floor in victory I took it in. She wasn’t dead yet though. She pulled out her book from under her and called out, “This is the time for natures choice, Fill her destiny that was my choice." I felt colder and colder by the second and before I knew it I was asleep.
