A story I've been working on... I posted it for my sister 'cause she wanted me to >< I'm scared to make it public. Oh well, here's what I have so far.
Chapter 1.
The rain has cleared up a little. All that's left is the dark gloomy clouds that were a sign of what once was. Well, that's exactly how I feel inside right now, and probably will for a very long time. My name is Melissa. My dad died 3 days ago, because of a sickness. When he died, my mother immediatly packed us up, and saying she found a new better job, she's moving us almost 4 states away. It's only me and her now. Now I'm wishing dad died when my two older brothers were my age, so that I wouldn't have to go through this. (I'm 14, I've been for 5 months now.) I know it's a bad thing to wish I never lived, but I'd be better off dead. Without me, though, I'm not sure what mom would do. At least I'm not as useless as I feel.
I still can't believe mom is making me go with her to Texas. I close my eyes and remember watching my house get smaller and smaller as we drove away. As if dad dying were bad enough, mom thought it was a good idea to go to Texas to be near her sister, Amanda. As for me, I'm going to have to face a new school, with new people. In the middle of the year. God, please help me, I just want my friends back. I feel tears coming and I blink them back, waking up from my daydreaming when mom hits a bump in the road. That's exactly what this all is... just a big bump in the road. My stomach growls, I feel like I havn't eaten since the funeral. Maybe it's because I havn't...
"Want something to eat?" Asks mom. I look at her and shake my head. "Come on, you havn't eaten in a while." These past few days I've gotten this huge attitude towards everything. I heard mom say it's because of the sadness, and that it'll wear off. Mom's still nice to me though, and I'm thankful. At least she understands how I feel. I look down. Food makes me nautious, even fast food, which is my favorite kind. "Maybe later." I say. Mom studies me for a second. I pretend not to notice, so she looks straight ahead. I look out the window. Is the sun setting or rising? I've lost track of time. I've lost track of myself. I look at my phone, it's just about to be 6 A.M. Yup, it's rising.
"Now entering Texas." I read the sign aloud. Me and mom looked at each other. Mother looked approvingly, I could tell I looked miserable. Might as well rename me misery. Mom gave an understanding frown. "It wont be so bad, meeting new friends, having new places to go, to explore." I know mom was only trying to help, but I gave a sigh. "Mom, why don't you try being an outcast?" I fiddled with the rings dad gave me. I've cried so hard the last few days, I didn't think there could be anything left. But there was, I could feel it. I pushed back. I wont cry in front of mom. I could feel her eyes on the ring, probably pushing every ounce of tears and feelings back just like me. I look at her, dead in the eyes. "I miss him so much, mom." I can't hold it in anymore. I feel my voice break, my eyes water and soon enough it's uncontrollable. Mom pulls over, and holds me in her arms. Her voice is strong, but I can hear it shaking too. "I know, I do too."
Chapter 2.
Finally, we arrived at aunt Amanda's house. I see her and her dog waiting outside. Great, a dog. I give a sigh and step out of the car, and I almost fall down. I think I forgot how to walk. I use the support of the car door and stretch. Oh, how good that feels. I feel something bump against my leg, and on top of spazzing out, I almost fall backwards. I look down, and there's the dog looking up and smiling at me. I look at it with a mad face for a minute, but the dog just kept smiling. I reach down and pet it gently. My first friend.
Off in the distance I see a forest like area. "Hey, mom?" I ask, turning around to see her taking the bags out of the car. "Hm?" she says grunting. I run to help her. "Is that forest area safe over there?" I say pointing with my free hand. Mom looks. "Sure, but before you go exploring, help please." She says, giving me an innocent smile. I can't resist. I give a small little laugh to myself and help her and Amanda bring the bags in. "There's a movie theatre down 2 blocks away if you wanna go see a movie. It wont be interesting here." Amanda said, handing me 20 bucks. I look at her in a praising way. "Thanks, aunt Amanda!" I say, keeping my good girl act up. I run out the door and make my way down the street, shoving my hands into my pockets, perfecting my game face I've come to know.
On my way to the theatre I pass the forest. I look for an enterence, but it seems you'd just have to squeeze your way through some trees. Hm. I'm going in there after the movie, I say to myself. I don't even know what's playing. I walk up to the ticket stand. Teenagers. Of course, what else would be there? They stare at me as if they have never seen another human before. I pretend not to notice and go up to the lady. There's no movies I've heard of there, so I pick a random one. I make my way into the builing, which smells of popcorn and candy. This wasn't such a bad idea after all. Or, I hope it wasn't...
When the movie was over, I waited until almost everyone was out. As soon as I stepped out into the isle, somebody ran straight into me. Or did I run into them? Well, whatever happened, they spilled their popcorn all over me. Just my luck. I stood there for a second, while a boy just kind of looked at me. I guess he was trying to figure out what had happened, or maybe what he should do. "That's just... Nice." I gave him a nice sarcastic smile. He hesitated. "I'm so sorry, I didn't see y-" "It's ok, really, all it was was popcorn." I cut him off. I brushed my hand over my shirt and stormed off. Man, just blew off a possible new friend. I can't help it, it just happens now.
Instead of stopping in the forest, I stormed home. It's getting dark anyway, I thought. I sigh closing the door, and mom and Amanda just kind of look at me. ".. Was there a popcorn fight?" asked mom plucking some out of my hair. I looked at her with a frown. "I ran into somebody." Mom chuckled. "Does my room have everything it?" I ask. Amanda smiled. "All set up for you, dear." She said. I gave the best smile I could at the moment, and walked up the stairs. Such a big house for a lady and a dog. But now there's me and mom. I make a guess and take a left to the only door in that long hallway. I put my finger to the wall. It's so beautiful. The golden colors and the painted pictures of beautiful scenes on the walls. I could get used to it here. Maybe.
Chapter 3.
I open the door, Sure enough, my room. A queen bed?? I jump on it with a pleaurable sigh. I open my eyes and notice my hair falling in gallant curls. Dad's hair is curly. I notice my white, but not so white it's pale, skin color. And for the first time my shocking blue-green eyes. I'm the image of dad. I raise my hand up to the light, the rings glinting and showing off their diamonds. I remember dad's warm hands, and how they would hold me while I was upset. Oh, how I needed his arms around me... I close my eyes and picture him. Dad... I miss you.
I heard my name in a hushed voice. I'm barely awake but I can see the sun through the blinds. I must've fell asleep. "Melissa," mom said quietly. "Melissa, wake up, breakfast is made." I open one eye. I never want to get out of this bed. I moan and turn over on my stomach. "I'm not hungry," I moaned. I peeked at mom, she frowned. "Come eat." She said and walked back to the kitchen. I layed for a second, hoping I was dreaming. "What am I thinking?" I said to myself. "This isn't a dream." I got up mad at myself. "Just let me take a shower." I called as I heard the clanking of sliverwear on plates.
I dug in my suitcase for some clothes. It was hot already, and apperently I'm not starting school today. I found a cute pair of shorts and a tank top. In the shower I thought of yesterday. Then yesterday led to that jerk. Okay, boy. I admit, He really didn't do anything wrong. Maybe it was just his attitude during the aftermath. He was kind of cute though. I wonder what his arms feel like... My thoughts have drifted off, and I shuttered from that thought. Ew, why would I ever think something like that? He's probably a jerk anyway.
As I walked down the stairs, the smell of food turned my stomach. Looks like I'm forcing myself to eat today. Mom put down a big plate with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and a glass of milk. I closed my eyes. "Do I have to eat this?" I asked. "Got something wrong with my food?" Asked Aunt Amanda with her soft kind voice. I looked at her. Such good iming I have. But, she was smiling. "Oh, um, no, I didn't.. I just.." I just had a great studder moment, that's what "I just." Amanda smiled, "It's okay, I know you havn't been eating much." She's so understanding...
Chapter 4.
I called out to mom saying I'll be back in a bit. To the woods I go. I walk on the sidewalk as if it were a balance beam. Then of course I look around for stalkers... Kind of a habit. I'm at the woods now. I squeeze my way through the trees and look around. It's huge, and pretty. I get a stick and drag it across the dirt, I don't want to get lost. I look around. Such a peacful place. Then I see something... What is it? I drop the stick and head towards it, it looks huge. Finally I see it. It's a tree house. "Well," I say to myself smiling, "Looks like I got myself a nice tree house." I look around to find if anybody is around, but the house looks so old, I think it might be abandoned.
I go up the ladder, slowly, not trusting my step, bracing myself incase it decides to fall. Bringing my hand up, almost to the top, I didnt see a nail sticking out and I cut my hand. "Ouch!" I say in surprise of the sting, and I climb my way back up. I sit on the edge, not bothering to look inside before I mend my hand. I hope that nail wasn't rusted, that cut is pretty deep. More like a gash on the palm of my hand. Then I hear something, a voice. "Are you ok?" I'm so startled I almost scream. I think I did, for the guy that the voice came from kind of jumped back. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Is your hand ok?"
I look at the blood coming out of it and dripping down, down, down, to the ground. I look it him and he takes the back of my hand in his. He takes off his shirt and rips it into two pieces. One, he wipes it with, holding my hand in place when when I winced at the pain and pulled back. The other he wrapped it with, nice and firm. "There you go." He said smiling. I can't help but stare at his smooth skin tone and... And those abs! I shake my head out of those thoughts and look at his smiling face. I was smiling too, but then I just got mad. It's "Him."
My almost smile fades. "Oh, it's you." I said so dully. "Hey, don't pretend like that was my fault, you ran into me." He said putting emphasis on 'you' and 'me'. "Plus, I think I deserve a 'thank you'." He said pointing to my hand. I look down at it. He's right. But maybe it's not the fact he spilled pop corn all over me... Maybe it's what I thought about being in his arms... I almost slap myself. "You're right. I kind of over reacted. Sorry, and thank you." Still, there was a bit of sarcasm in my voice. I almost slap myself again. He looks at me.
"I'm sorry" I say again, but more consier. "For what?" He asked looking confused again. "Well the last time I said it, it was kind of sarcastic sounding and I just..." I look at him. His eyes are so warm and inviting, and they match perfectly with his caramell skin color. His hair is long and brown with bits of blonde highlights. I could fall for a guy like this. He smiles. I almost melt. "It's ok, I believe you." He says friendly. I could deffinatly fall for a guy like him.
I turn around fast so I don't colapse. Maybe I'm just more vulnerable with dad gone... I could feel his eyes on me. I fell to my knees at the thought of dad. Then I felt him beside me. "Are you ok?" He asked. He meant it too. I thought of what I thought about him earlier. He's not a jerk after all. I guess I should wait until I meet the person to decide of they're a jerk... I felt his hands on my shoulder. I think I'm crying... I wipe my eyes and see tiny drops of water. Well, great. This is great. Why me...?
I take a breath. Calm down, melissa. "I'm ok..." I say quietly. What a lie. He knows it just as much as I do. I feel him wrap his arms around me. "What are you doing?" I ask, muffled by his chest. "Girls like to be held when they're upset, right?" I open my eyes. Are you serious?
Chapter 5
It's sunday. It's been 2 days since that day with... Um... I forgot to ask his name! "Well, Tuesday you're starting school." I heard mom say. My heart skipped a beat. Oh no.... No.. No no no no no.. Please no...!
