Insecurity Shouts Out of Security.

PreviousNext

Insecurity is…

And it is…

Lack of confidence to face my imperfections.

My insecurity breaks open my soul to the mockery of society

placing me at the mercy of flawlessly flawed tongues.

Even while I grope in the darkness of insecurity,

my fear is to encounter the courage to step out of it.

Afraid that this newly found courage would expose my remnants-

Of broken pieces… shattered hope…expired energy.

This courage couldn’t be my savior

it rather leads me to another insecurity:

that the world around me would see

I am not the strong person I portray to be.

Hiding behind the covers of makeup, the infillings of botox,

and a pretense of a smile

to hide the truth that I am the subject of the matter.

But who can point an accusing finger?

I am human and not perfect.

What if the imperfection of perfection is its unattainability?

Ok hey, here for a review(all that polite sh**)
So I really like that opening. You begin with the main point, insecurity. So maybe you could do something like (Insecurity was../ and it is..) because twice in the present does not serve much of a purpose. So you have quite a hold on imagery, comparison as well. The way you describe insecurity as a path in darkness, etc etc, is really clear. But I think you should insist a lot more on each picture you make, because otherwise the pictures we get in our head is just a jumbled mess. Next coming up, your formidable use of rhymes. They never seem forced or out of place, they really are there because they fit in the sentences; and not just because you wanted to make it rhyme. Not any word seem out of place, although sometimes we notice the way you structured sentence to have the last word rhyme.

I can not express how much I love this poem! It's so expressive, deep, and overall emotionally descriptive. I also like how philosophical and thought out this sounds. It's clear you put much passion, emotion, and effort into this short but impactful and thought-provoking poem. I really like your writing style and how you use descriptive and detailed words that really show emotion (I put an emphasis on emotion since you did an amazing job of doing it) and also show what appears to me at least, a high writers vocabulary. I really appreciate that since it means you can make some high-quality writing! Sorry if my review is rather short but honestly there's nothing really wrong with this poem as far as I can tell! All I can really give is praise for this and I don't want to keep repeating my self! Anyway amazing poem! Keep Writing!

Thank you for this wonderful, and important review. I highly value your review. Specifically highlighting the strengths of the poem is appreciated.

Hello,

This is a really well-written poem... the idea of it is deep and really expressive. The title gives a clear message of the idea of the poem, and that's what intrigued me to read this. These lines are filled with deep emotion of what being insecure can do to a person, and you even let us in to what this person's main insecurity is so that we could really understand their feelings more clearly. I especially like the middle section where you talk about "courage" not being something this person wants to face because it would make them feel even more insecure. Overall, this poem conveys a very clear message and I don't think there is anything missing from it!

I don't think you need the second line of this poem... I think just having that first line transitioning to the third line would be great.

Also, it took me a while to understand that last question, but I think it's a great way to end it off. At first, I was jumbling these three words in my mind trying to interpret what it meant... but then it was clear. "The imperfection of perfection... is that it's unattainable" (kind of easy to figure now that I think about it lol). I like how you ended off with a question to really leave readers off with a lasting impact, and I think that the biggest impact made here is that trying to reach perfection is what causes our insecurities.

Anyway, really great poem with a really great message, and I hope to read more of your work!

Keep Writing :)

Thank you for your review. I appreciate it. And everything you stated is well noted.

It's crazy how your life can be twisted upside down inside out and around and you can get sushi from safeway still looking like a normal person
