The last night of winter

thank you, God

that earth ever turns,

that it carries us always to spring.

my frozen fields will soon break

my fields will break and be blessed by grace

toward dawn.

and the stars,

and the stars tonight, oh, how they sing

how their light finally finds this darkened heart!

there's no song, but theirs

as I'm born on this dear earth

toward dawn.

This is such a beautiful poem and it's amazing how much it has to give for a shorter piece. It feels like a well deserved break from everything happening in the world recently as my view has been "as the world turns the whole world burns" but this gave me peace for a moment.

Although winter is my favourite time and I enjoy the peace as the nature rests in its temporary death I still absolutely love the imagery you used. I can see the hope behind the idea of spring always making its way through and the "frozen fields" breaking.

I'm in love with the idea of stars singing. I've never heard that phrase used before yet it makes so much sense.

Truly an amazing poem and definitely one of the best ones I've read.

Wow, what a beautiful poem! Your words truly capture that magical moment when winter gives way to spring. I love how you start with “thank you, God,” which sets a lovely tone of appreciation for nature’s cycles. The imagery of “frozen fields” breaking open is powerful, and the way you describe the stars singing and bringing light to a “darkened heart” is just stunning. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in our darkest moments, there’s always hope waiting to shine through.

The repetition of “toward dawn” gives a rhythmic feel and emphasizes the sense of moving forward toward something brighter, which is so uplifting! If I could suggest one thing, maybe consider clarifying some lines, like “there's no song, but theirs,” to explore that thought a bit more. Overall, this piece is a lovely reflection on transformation and new beginnings. Keep writing—your voice is captivating!

i quite enjoyed this short poem, it gives another perspective onto the world that some people may not see. i enjoyed the length of it quite a bit, it allows you to sit back, relax and just enjoy some light reading. the content of the poem as well is quite endearing as well. it talks about the writers perspective on the world and the night. and how it can heal a "darkened heart" which could mean a broken/traumatised heart and how nature is proven to help thoes with trauma to heal. overall i quite enjoyed this and will recomend this to others! Good job!!
