[Vincent](POV)

I’m lost. Lost beyond contentment. She is slipping beyond my group, I’m losing her, much like I had years ago except now, I can’t search for her any longer if she doesn’t pull through. Holding onto her limp body, I can feel myself feel hollow as her breathing becomes more shallow. Without realizing it, my guarded heart began to twist in abnormal ways that only hurt, causing unnoticeable tears to trickle down my bruised and beaten face. Sobs, only silent to my ears, shaking me, making my body crumble, crippling my well being.

“You got to let her go.” the words were briefly audible but it was enough to send my blood boiling, dissipating the coldness that had ran through my body only to be replaced by the sheer heat of anger. A hand was placed on my shoulder, causing my body to stiffen and my jaw to clench. “Vincent come on bud. We got to go.”

“Get. Off. Me.” I said through clenched teeth. I can feel myself ready to release all my anger on him. One wrong sentence and I’m going to flip. He removed his hand, but remained close.

“Vincent there’s nothing we can do for her. I’m sorry but we don’t have enough time before-”

“She’s pregnant.” I whispered, hand trembling on Rachel’s stomach as it rises and lowers at a quickened pace. My breath caught in my throat at her pain. The air around us grew eerie. “It’s mine, no she’s my baby, Rachel’s baby.”

“Vince I’m sorry but-” the house rattle due to an explosion outside. It didn’t deter me one bit. My body is paralyzed to this spot. Jarel made another attempt to move me, to rush me out before the house could collapse on us, but my body remained stoned right next to the woman carrying my my child. He made one more attempt except this time trying to grab Rachel. Before he could, my fist connected with the right side of his jaw.

“Don’t touch her Jarel!” the look on his face was pure astonishment. Never had ever laid my hands on him in a threatening way, but now, at the very moment I feel like an angry dog who just lost his owner. Jarel see’s this and soon he stares at me with clear understanding and sympathy. Twisting my face in disgust. I don’t want sympathy. “Just leave Jarel.” nodding his head at my request he began descending up the stairs that lead out of the basement. Right before opening the door, he turns to me with a sad smile.

“You know what happens after this right? I can’t help you after I leave this house.” his words didn’t stick in my head as I stared down at the woman that would’ve made me a father. A sad smile graced my face, nodding to allow Jarel to leave and live his life. “Goodbye.” he whispered. Silently closing the door. My eyes never left her and my hand never moved away from her pregnant stomach.

“I love you.” my voice trembled and finally my sobs became audible to me. Placing a small kiss on her cold lips and allowing my forehead to rest upon her’s as my tears drips from me onto her face. She’s still fighting herself to stay with me. “I love you and our little bundle of joy so much.” I choked. Closing my eyes I hope she can feel all my love for her.

I soon felt a cold hand stroking my cheek. My breathing stilled for a moment, opening my eyes I see her pained chocolate ones staring back at me. She looked at me with so much pride, admiration and love. Her other hand was soon felt next to mine one her stomach as well. We stayed that way in complete silence, disregarding the rumbling of the house and the air in the basement filling with dust.

“I’m sorry baby.” I whispered to her. She gave me a confused that only caused me to feel more regret. “I’m sorry letting Clyde take you away, I’m sorry leaving when you needed me the most, and,” I paused to show her how much I regretted everything,”I’m sorry for finding you and bringing you into this mess.” the room was silent once again. I avoided looking into those eyes that I fell in love with love with.

“All the things you’re sorry about, I’m proud ever happened.” she wheezed. “Because if any of that never happened I would have never found you and I would never have been so blessed to carry our child.” her words only made me cry harder. “Thank you for staying with me to the very end Vincent Sermon.” a piece of the ceiling fell down not too far away from us which only made me hold her tighter to my chest.

“Anything for you Rachel Rando or if we lived longer Rachel Sermon  and our beautiful Gabriella Sermon.” I kissed the top of her head right as the ceiling collapsed on us and all went black. No pain just darkness and my life from this point rewinding back, flashed before my eyes. Until everything that had happened with Rachel disappeared. I don’t know what hurt more, not remembering her or knowing I’ll never see her again.

(Yes, welcome to YWS by the way, hope you find it a great stay)

Firstly-you did well capturing the emotions of the main character, mostly about how he feels towards Rachael and Jarel.

There are quite a few grammatical errors though. You've typed quite a few words more than once, and I don't believe the intention was to convey stuttering. You also drop words at the end of your sentences, or in the middle. Just go through and give the whole thing a good edit.

All right, first off, I loved all the descriptions except "her chocolate brown eyes." Why? This is cliché, and amateurish. Vincent knows she has brown eyes-why mention it now? What's more important right now to him? The color or the expression? It's needless information that you're trying to convey to the reader.

On the same note, mentioning that she's pregnant gets old after the first two times you mention it. Six times you mention the baby! This might not be so bad but it's repetitive, and easily overdone. We know there are three lives involved now-you don't have to keep mentioning it again and again. (The worst offender, I think, was "... her pregnant stomach." Shouldn't the reader be caring more about Rachael than her "pregnant stomach?")

Another problem I saw was with the last paragraph-things are flowing along nicely and then all of a sudden:
"I love you, John Smith," "I love you too, Mary Sue." and the baby's name too! Since these characters already know each other, it seems redundant for them to be exchanging their last names. These are their dying words! Don't end it with them giving out names!

Side note: I am wondering, if this is a "snid-bit," then why is new information being given at the end of the story? (Unless this is the start of a story, which would be interesting) It's the end and just now we learn that Rachael is pregnant? Shouldn't the reader be aware of that before now?

You use quite a few hashed "writerly clichés" in the description as well... "chocolate brown eyes," "I felt like a dog that had just lost his master." These are cheesy and distract from the rest of the story, I would suggest eliminating/revising them to better fit what you mean.

Overall: The scene flowed nicely, I liked the way you showed Vincent and his undying loyalty to Sarah. Definitely work on the grammar.

Hope this helps, keep writing!

Firstly, welcome to YWS. This is Abel here to review.

Wow, this is a very touching piece. I wonder why you haven't had any reviews..

Your delivery was perfect, and the portrayal of emotions is very admirable. Except for very few grammatical errors, this piece is almost impeccable through my eyes.

One correction though: "She is slipping beyong my GROUP" it should be GRIP.

Also, you change your tense from present to past at the beginning. From using 'she is', 'I am', 'I feel' etc, you begin to use 'began', 'said', etc.

Anyway, well done, and I hope we read more of your work.
Cheers!
