Death Is a Beast

It was dark when he awoke.
But it wasn't the stars, or the beckoning moom that woke him.
It was the call of the beast.
The dark eyes made him shiver.
But he didn't run.
He didn't scream.
He stared into the eyes of his killer, and let death consume him.
But when death was over things were much worse.
Because his memories flashed through his mind.
Things he thought he left behind.
They came from his soul,
His heart,
His past.
All consuming him and making it worse than the pain of death.
Things can be worse than the physical pain of death.
Death is not a friend.
Or foe.
As ironic as it sounds...
Death is a part of life.
And life is nothing.
So death... is nothing.
Why is everyone so scared of death?
The not knowing?
The not beliving?
The pain?
Hell,
Think about your pain on earth.
Think about the people on earth.
Do you want to suffer more?
Or do you want to be...

Interesting poem; it definitely has a unique edge. I actually like the way you made some lines bold and kept this poem sharp. Typically it's a style I don't fall in love with, but this was a good poem. The message is deep and introspective, and while I'm trying to pull words out of thin air right now and muster up some criticism, I think that this was a solid poem. My one suggestion might be to not put the word "Free" in its own line. I would write "Or do you want to be free?" in bold - it will give it all the impact that it needs, and might even increase that final darker edge on the words.

In any case, this was a good poem! Keep writing!
