Childhood Memories

I lay curled up on the merry-go-round
As its music fills my ears
And carries me off to another world
A sphere of childhood years

I close my eyes and feel the warmth
Of my mother’s sweet embrace
Trying so hard to search my mind
For an eternally forgotten place.

A child’s mind is a playground—
A sanctuary no one knows,
A place of deep serenity,
A haven where no one goes.

It is full of hussle and bussle
And an eagerness to explore,
A world of strange proportions,
The space behind the door.

Yet when the child finds the key,
And ventures far away,
It is left with nothing but memory,
The faint sound of child’s play.

Your poem is great. It has the essence of being a dream, a bittersweet remembrance. Although the poem appears to be sweet, it has underlying tones of sadness and regret. It is as if you are remembering the bliss of childhood, and regreting your decision to leave it behind. It seems as though the first seven lines are missing punctuation, but that is the only error that I can find. I like the spaces you put between the stanzas; it gives the poem a clean look. Beautiful vocabulary! Over all, success!

I can honestly find nothing I would tweak in this poem. The language is beautiful, and the whole thing has this haunting reminicent feeling. You could probably do something with this!

If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.
