Basically this was a project I started back in 8th grade in hopes of just writing a novel to say that I could. Now I'm a junior in high school and this single novel has developed into a four book series entitled the Tears quartet.
~So basically it's Religious fiction, I push the interpertation of it and add things that it could mean ect.~
Umm..I hope I'm doing this right,
Here is the first chapter of it (3rd draft of it, still has changes to go through but yeah...enjoy I guess
)
Prologue
“This calls for wisdom. Whoever is intelligent can figure out the meaning of the number of the beast, because the number stands for the name of someone. Its number is 666.”
This is where it starts for everyone, and to have this story told you must start where it all begins…this is the story of JJ. Let’s begin.
Chapter one
I could feel beads of sweat trickling down the sides of my face attempting to cool me. I felt angry as I breathed in the how air of summer and I could feel my patience wearing with each release of breath. I passed my hand over my forehead and pulled it away wet with these beads of
attempted air conditioning. I felt hotter and more irritable than before.
I swung my leg limply as I focused my eyes on the reflective cheap glass that hung in my windows. My hair was shaggy brown, always covering my eyes. I flicked my head hoping to cast it away, but in the end it just slunk back to its original position and I sighed before giving up. My eyes had always been called a thing of beauty, and considering I hadn’t gotten any for several years, they obviously weren’t that beautiful. Maybe it was because they were the basic blue? I let my unsatisfying eyes trail along the reflective glass and scoffed at the rest of my body. I was wearing a white shirt with the words, “Yup this is a shirt.” plastered in large red letters across the front, size was extra smedium. You see smedium is a mix between small and medium. Usually the shirt covers the entire upper half of the body, beware the men with rogue belly hairs, but wasn’t long enough to cover the arms or any part of the pants…supposedly tight shirts were sexy.
“Liars, the whole lot of em’” I said throwing on a British accent in an attempt to sound sophisticated.
I looked down towards my jeans and prayed that I was giving my legs room to breath. The jeans were washed down the front and were baggy…but of course I tried them tight with a belt. In no way was I letting my pants sag to let someone know I was spoken for by the big man named Pookey. My shoes were black no name brand. Probably something along the lines of, “You’ve never heard of us but if you want to afford your rent and not walk around like Fred Flintstone you’re going to buy us.” Yes it was that long a name, wrapped around the entire shoe.
I looked towards my hands and saw a small white bible cradled between them, a page in the thumb of my right hand and the rest of it laying in my left hand. I was delicate as I turned the pages, not wanting to tear the pages…I would have felt guilty. It’s not like I was neurotic or anything but I thought it might be—well it might be a display of disrespect.
“Thought they took you outta the bible.” I announced to the empty room as I reached what I’d been searching for.
“In the end there will be nothing but the cock roach and a bible,” I said, as revelations lay open before me. “Two of the hardest things to get rid of.” I mused.
I thumbed through the small section and saw several pages with bent edges. I’d always creased the pages of anything that I read. I didn’t see the need to kill more trees and get a book mark just to tell me where I left off, when there was already a dead tree capable of bending and marking my page just fine.
“Come on sweetie just walk a little further.” I heard a soft female voice request. I turned my head away from the bible and stared outside at the people walking over the streets.
The heat seemed to disrupt the air, as it does when you ride fast down a lone road, making the space in front of you seem like it’s simmering. The mother was wearing a wrinkled sundress, slinking down the sidewalk with a little girl in toe. The little girl had two large pigtails and a crumpled little face. Her eyebrows were meeting in the middle as she stared at her mother. In her mind her mother was sentencing her to a walk in Hell, and that’s what it felt like even inside. She was wearing a small tank top over her small-undeveloped chest. The little girl threw on a smile after her mother stared at her for a moment putting on the façade that she was enjoying the little walk, when in truth she cursed her mother.
Car’s seemed too not existent that day. I looked a little ways down the street and saw a light change from red to green, but the only thing that moved were small specs of dirt picked up by a dry wind. Maybe all of the cars were experiencing problems with tier air conditioning. I knew if they were working that any person in a sane state of mind would find any excuse to turn on the motor and blast the air conditioning.
Cleveland is the place I call home…as if you wouldn’t have already figured that out by picking this up right? Who knows maybe this’ll get out to other people and they would—let me just take this one step at a time. Cleveland has always been my home and whether it is the weather or the random increase in crime I love it, flaws and all. So what if we were able to set water on fire… which is funny, I’ll admit, but wasn’t the fault of any of the citizens, so I resent saying that, “Yall put yall lake on fire.” When I’m pretty sure I wasn’t a though then.
The weather that day was ridiculous if you hadn’t already picked up on that. Clouds had run from the skies when dawn approached, the temperature at that point already hitting the nineties. Long before that my air conditioner had conked out with a dry ‘thonk’ yes I had to create a new word just to describe it.
“En nombre del padre, el sol, y el espíritu santo...”
My attention was drawn back away from the window outside and I strained to listen to prayer next door. This was my church, and the heat was my absolution from the sins that I had committed throughout the week.
“Not like I could ever go into a church again…” I said, letting my voice trail…letting memories sink back to the back of my mind.
Next door the prayer continued, words seeming to come out in fits rather than flowing. She probably had to stop every few minutes just to wet her throat. That was one dedicated women I had to admit. When she finished, I said my own Amen and looked back toward my bible seeing that revelations was still open in front of me.
I have no idea why, but I must say that the rest of the bible is an utter waste. I don’t want to know why the world started, or how sins were forgiven, because even if I didn’t like how it was done, or if I didn’t agree with it I couldn’t change anything about it. Of course I was pissed when I heard that Jesus had been given up on by his own people and he was nailed onto that cross, and then spat at, taunted, until he could no longer breath, but what could I do about that? This is why I loved revelations, it told of what was going to happen and what signs would appear when it was going to happen, I could do something about this. I could absolve myself and be one of those that would make it to Heaven’s gate for judgment based on what I did, who knows, I thought, I might even be one of the warriors to fight the Anti Christ.
I got up from my window seat that, no pun intended, sat in front of a large window. Staring around my apartment I sighed again.
“God, I bet you wouldn’t even let Jesus out if he had a room like this would you?” I spoke out loud to myself, knowing that no one was listening to me.
All around me clothes sat in piles, in corners like punished children. I sneezed as I looked at my T.V and saw the inch layer of dust that was caked on the top of it. I didn’t even bother to walk over to my kitchen because I knew that there was going to be stacks of dishes screaming at me to clean them, so instead of walking in there I decided that I had to use the bathroom, yes my thoughts just come randomly like that.
I waded through the swamp that was my living room and past the kitchen ignoring the screams of dirty dishes like I’ve mentioned, and I saw my bathroom door open, I stepped inside and shut the door, out of habit I guess. As I sat on my abode, pants around my ankles, waiting for my demons to free themselves from my body, I heard a scream from the alley that was right next to my bathroom.
“Oh my damn.” I craned my neck toward the open window and saw the dark alley that lay behind my house like a clichéd murder scene, expect no murder had happened there…yet. A tall figureless looking man stood, hand at the throat of the women who I recognized to be my neighbor from across the hall…Melissa. I could see her scratching at his arm, gasping for breath.
“Hey!” I yelled from my throne hoping to scare him off. Before he did I guess he blew some smoke in her face because this black vapor seemed to envelope Melissa, then the figure seemed to float around the outside of the alley.
“Are you ok?” I called down again, feeling like a complete ass, no pun intended.
When I got no answer I was prepared to call down to her again, but her husband came rushing from behind the corner.
“Ay Dios! Are you alright?” He bent down, putting his arm around her shoulder. Her hand came like a baseball bat being swung full force, and smacked him square in the face. She then went in his face and did the oddest thing she coughed on him.
She stalked away, and her husband rose from the ground as if nothing had happened, and followed suit heading toward the front of the building.
“That’s why I don’t have a girlfriend.” I said to my self. This was the same woman that I had heard praying that morning, “Now what would God think?” I said to myself, as I let the first Demon free. I then thought to myself what would be happening next door if they started to argue.
“I swear, let me hear some stuff breakin and Ima take my bat over there and hit some balls.” I turned away from the window and finished my purging.
After washing my hands, I walked back over to my seat and saw my white bible still sitting where I left it. In the distance I could hear the church bells toll softly, and that’s when a knock came at my door, very demanding.
“Oh wow…” No one ever came to my house and nor did I care for them to as it was. I decided to wait, just to see how desperate they would get waiting someone to answer. Another lofty slam came to the door and I just stared at it waiting,
“JJ open the damn door, or I’ll break it down!” I scrambled to my door and opened it as quickly as possible.
My red-faced landlord Clarence greeted me.
“Clarence, hey!” Clarence brushed past me and sat on my couch. I had to control my laughter because he sat in the exact spot that had seen many, climatic experiences.
“Boy I need to know where my money is now!” His face was beet red, and his hands had already become fists. I could tell that inside of his head blood was pounding fiercely blocking out any sound, expect the answers he wanted.
“I just paid you Clarence.” I closed the door sensing that if anything happened I could handle myself well enough.
Clarence sat on my couch, his girth making it so that not even a mouse could attempt to sit next to him. His first chin looked normal enough, it was the other two that make it look a little awkward. His knobby hands looked like they were made to chock, or eat, I think he may have dabbled in the latter. Clarence was balding on the top, and tried to cover it over with the Trump comb over, but failed horrible. He was wearing sandals and his purple little toes looked like tightly packed sausages.
“The hell you did JJ.” He pulled a bag of peanuts from his breast pocket and began to pop a few into his mouth.
“What do you mean the hell I did? I handed you the money in cash, you pudgy little—“ I stopped myself, this was the only place that I had to live and I had to consider my future, did I really want to be a in a U-haul box on the corner of Denison and 88th?
“Please, don’t hold back on the account of my presence.” He smiled showing a row of yellow teeth. Laughing, he popped some more peanuts into his mouth.
Yeah, go ahead and keep putting those nuts in your mouth, I thought to myself as I felt my anger begin to boil.
“Get out.” I opened my door and didn’t even look at him.
“My money?” He popped more nuts into his mouth and would not move from my couch.
I sighed and slammed my door.
“You know I wish someone would just come rushing through that door right now and stab you till you died?” It came out in a rushed breath, and I looked back with a shocked glaze on my face.
“Kid, I wish the same on some people too. Just get the damn money.” He continued on his nuts and I walked into my bedroom.
Rummaging through my old, oak wood dresser I looked for the sock that I kept my roll of money in, just in case an emergency called for its use. I pocketed the money and walked back into the living room, Clarence was just sitting there.
“Well boy, you don’t expect me to waist valuable energy to get my money do you?” He sat there smiling, and I wished that I could just pop him like a balloon. As I walked over to him I heard shuffling outside of my door. Obviously they had gotten home.
“Come on boy.” Clarence was growing impatient, I could tell because he face grew more and more purple.
“Alright,” I began to walk over, “so impatient. Your underwear cutting off circulation to a certain somewhere?” I looked him up and down, making sure my eyes left uncomfortable imprints, and as I was about to step away from him, hand in my pocket I heard a slam against my door.
My head wiped around, and I waited. My breath was in my throat, who was it this time?
“I’d get that door little JJ.” He looked toward the door as well; his eyes kept shifting between the door and me. His little sausage hands rubbing furiously together. He began to sweat profusely and I could tell this wasn’t sweat brought on by the sweltering heat.
“Who-“ Before the rest of my sentence could escape my lips my door exploded sending thousand of wood splinters projectiles every which way.
“What the fu-“ Clarence’s word were caught in his throat as the lady from the alley came charging at him full speed, her dress blowing purposefully behind her. She looked like a ballroom dancer coming off of a spin. I was standing between Clarence and my neighbor; in her hand she clasped a large serrated knife. As her feet pounded against the ground I dove to the side and saw that she didn’t bother to pursue me.
“Die, die, die, die, die!” She landed on top of Clarence and began to swing her knife furiously, cutting the air, slamming it into Clarence’s chest.
“No! Stop! Get her off!” Clarence voice was desperate, his baying making him a dying dog. Glued to the floor by what felt like eight hundred g’s of extra gravity, my eyes could not be torn away from her feverish stabbing.
“Men die as does the world toward its end!” She was making no sense, and her hand never stopped, her elbow the fulcrum, her simple machine kept pumping away.
Clarence continued to scream for help as his blood became caked on the knife, blood spraying into my neighbor’s beautiful face. She seemed to be bathing in it, enjoying every droplet of blood. I still couldn’t move, I wanted to throw her off, I couldn’t stand Clarence, but this…
Soon his screams died away, and my neighbor twisted her head toward me, I heard something snap. She rose slowly letting the knife sink into Clarence’s chest one more time, it make a sick squelching noise as it dug itself into his excess of skin.
Her eyes were black, blood dribbling from her ears, her eye sockets, and her nose. She opened her mouth and a black vapor escaped from her lips. I covered my mouth.
The black vapor swirled out of her and shot out of my room next door. My eyes followed it, and I looked back at my neighbor. She fell to the ground her eyes blue again, blood spurting from her mouth. This was not the start to a good day.

Your comment was posted, but it wasn’t long enough to count as a review. Reviews need about four complete sentences (at least 250 characters). Try writing another review that explains your thoughts in more detail — the author will appreciate it, and you’ll earn points for it.
Thanks for the review, in the future I'll make sure to not post things that are so long.
Umm, I'm currently rewriting the story from a 3rd person omnipresent point of view because I'd be able to give more detail.
Do you think that would be a good idea?
Also, I'm still trying to finish up the 3rd person version of chapter one (I have the first person version done, but I'm redoing the ENTIRE novel 3rd person) should I edit the first post when I finish the 3rd person version of it?
Also, spelling/grammar was never my strong point, my story was, but I'll try and fix that in the future.
Alright, much better with the formatting firstly!
And now, let's get onto my promised review, shall we?
There are a lot of spelling mistakes (waist instead of waste, car's instead of cars, though instead of thought... and the like) which make it seem like you don't care about what you are writing even if you do.
Also, I found myself getting very confused; at first I thought JJ was at church, than only later did I realize that he was at his apartment. I suggest you clear that up from the beginning.
I also found that I didn't particularly feel for JJ. He was the narrator and main character, but I didn't relate.
You might not want to post things so long in the future, by the way, you'll get more reviews if you post something shorter. Maybe post half chapters? Like "chapter 1 part 1" you know?
Here are some of the most blatant mistakes:
Hadn't gotten any what for several years? This sentence confused me
Should be "cars seemed non-existent that day."
This is another one that confused me. It might just be me, but you should take a second look.
...Those were (to me anyway) the most obvious of your mistakes, but there were lots of little ones as well that I suggest you look over.

I hope this critique doesn't seem mean, I'm not trying to be mean, really!

There's something odd with the formating. If you change it, please tell me and I'll be glad to read it. But as it is, I found it headaching to look at it
Anyway, I haven' seen you around before... welcome! PM me if you have questions!
