A Soul in Bondage

by Raiyelle

Published March 18, 2009

The echoing of screams fade from the air,
Only to bristle with tortured cries of despair.
Hearing the sound of maniacal laughter trailing from afar,
I felt a shocking wave of chills coursing through my veins.
The cover of the thicket barely masks my battered body,
As the snow starts to heavily fall with the descending sun.

I lope through the wilderness trying to dash ahead
Knowing there is deliverance on the other side of this looking glass.
Pale skin tightens as the feint light disperses into abyss of the night,
While shadows entangle my depleted body,
My soul hunts for a faint ray of hope……

My head drops in defeat when the shackles snap into place
Rebellion descends as my spirit is lost without a trace

Thanks. I intentionally left out a lot more scenery for I like my readers to imagine where it's taken place. I used the word "wilderness" but it can be taken for anything. It could be the bushes in the backyard of a house or actually in the forest. Thanks again for the compliments!!!

Really really good and so descriptive but try to give a little more of the scenery. where are you? a forest, the side of the road? I love how you let my imagination run with your poem but try to give a little more scenery.
