And as you reach in to grasp
that final piece, the answer to it all,
your fingers curl upon the empty air
like all those times before.
The ache had reduced to a throb
until it was felt no more
and as all hope began to fade away
'twas all you could do - to prevail.
Time was only a constant reminder
of your still beating heart
and a promise you had sworn to keep
even when the lights went out.
And so you plunged into the deep,
the ever looming darkness, the unsolved mysteries.
Nothing could ever bring you back
but you just had to breathe.

Hello there, Purnima! I really like this piece of poetry. I personally think the meaning is about keeping a promise no matter what, though I'm not really sure if that's what you were trying to display. Either way, you did a really good job on portraying the feeling of darkness and being lost. Like the title states, I do feel like this piece makes you feel like you're "drifting," in a sort of sense.
Looking through the poem, I don't see any mistakes whatsoever. This is really well written, and you should totally look into writing more poetry. Whatever you were trying to do here, you totally achieved capturing my attention, and I think you did that with all the other readers as well.
This poem is seeming to get a lot of attention, so congratulations! You totally deserve it, this poem is really good. Not much else I can say rather than praise it!

Hey Purnima,

This will be a short review, since there's not much for you to fix. The rhythm flows nicely in the poem, and the ideas expressed through your words are very relatable.
It's unique to start a poem with "and", and I'm not sure it fits here. It leaves me wondering, was I supposed to read something before this...? It takes away from the overall vibe of your poem. But don't worry, it's not too noticeable. Also, I'm not sure if you're trying to rhyme; if so, there are some very forced rhymes. If not, then don't mind me.
I really was drawn to this poem because of its beauty and, as I pointed out before, relatability. When you explain the fingers curling upon the empty air, I think pretty much every reader thinks of the time when they were looking for answers, and came up with nothing. And then when you say,
"And so you plunged into the deep,
The ever looming darkness, the I solved mysteries."
It's a common feeling: when one is confronted with question after question, to the point where even answers only drag them down into a deeper sea of questions. You write like there's an ongoing stream of consciousness, and it adds to the work in such a way that makes it even more fantastic. The desperation conveyed by the need to breathe at the end finished the poem perfectly. I understand that this holds meaning for you, as you explained. I hope that you continue publishing works that are meaningful to you; I think that you'll find many people who can relate to what you're going through.
"Drifting" is what I believe to be an ingenious title for this. When I read it, the drama enforced by the narrator's pain felt more as if he was falling. But you focused more on his mind, which was drifting off into an abyss. I loved this.
In contrast to what @tgirly said about the line, "'Twas all you could do to prevail", I actually interpreted it to mean that the narrator had done all he could, but it still wasn't enough to overcome his curiosity and his craving desire for an answer. I felt that this actually strengthened your poem.
Overall, this really is a beautiful piece. It speaks to the heart.
Yours,
Savvy
Wow. This is really good.
It almost goes too fast, but there's something nice about that, how it jumps from image to image, like the poem itself just slips past the reader and then it's done. There's a lot of stuff happening in this poem.
I love the imagery of the puzzle piece. I love how it goes from just one piece missing to have all the answers, to a bunch of unsolved mysteries, everything dark, like even with that piece there'd still be so much missing, unknown.
The only line I don't understand is "Twas all you could do to prevail." The rest of the poem has a more hopeless ring to it- all hope lost and all- and now they're winning? I thought the piece disappeared, how are they prevailing?
I also don't understand the jump from present tense to past tense, maybe I'm just understanding it wrong.
Hope this review helped and have a Happy Review Day!

Hi there Purnima! Niteowl here to leave a quick review for Team Firebolts this fine Review Day!
Overall, I really liked this. I especially like the imagery in the first stanza.
This line struck me as odd. In my mind, if something is throbbing it hurts more than a simple ache. The rhyming of "more" with "before" also confuses me...is this a rhyming poem? There are some rhyming lines, but it seems really inconsistent. Personally, I think full free verse would fit with this piece better but if you want to rhyme, focus on making the rhyme scheme more consistent.
This line sticks out to me for two reasons. It's much longer than the other lines, and also it's vague and kind of cliche. The rest of this stanza (plunging deep, needing to breathe) makes me think that some more water-related phrasing would make this more unique-sounding.
Overall, this was really nice. Just a few lines that could be stronger. Good job and keep writing!
Hello! Teddy here for a review.

First of all- wow. I loved this. Made me think about how people fight to stay alive, when in the simplest of terms all they need to do is simply breathe.
Now onto my nitpicks-
You should capitalize the first letter of every line. It just makes everything look nice.
I don't see anything wrong with your grammar. Good job!
Well, that's all I have. You can choose to change it or not, it's always up to you!
