Magical Reading

PreviousNext

My book just came to life.

You'll never guess where it took me!

To castles,

To wars,

To dungeons,

To dragons,

To the past,

To the future,

To deserts,

To oceans,

To cities,

To capitols,

To the sky,

To the moon and back.

I looked up from my lap,

Where my book sat,

And that’s when I realized I was reading.

Hey! Cello here! Happy review day!

I really like the concept of this poem but it felt a little... plain. I've seen tons of things like this, and with full honesty, this poem said nothing that made it stand out with my mind.

It's great that you enjoy reading and I'm sure we all get taken to other worlds when we read but the way you put it into words was cliche in my opinion. Personally, I would add more detail. Take a few words out of the list, make it more specific to really immerse the reader. Take them to another land with your poem.

To castles,

To wars,

To dungeons,

To dragons,

To the past,

To the future,

To deserts,

To oceans,

To cities,

To capitols,

To the sky,

This list drags on and on. You loose the reader. Choose maybe four of the ideas and focus on them.
'To royal castles of beautiful stone, protected by moats of shimmering water'
Then maybe skip a few and pick your second favorite of the subjects.
'To a past of hard lives and a future of bright prospects'
Add more detail. What is the destination like? Why is it special? What makes it an interesting topic to read about?

By shortening the list and really taking some time to sort out your thoughts, you could give this poem triple the value.

Keep up the good work!

First of all, good job in publishing your first work :)

The poem sound so fun. I like everything in the poem. If I try to analyze it, I guess the persona thought he was in the magical place. But it would be better if you add more creatures than just a dragon; probably like fairies, mermaids in the ocean, huge eagles in the sky, elves in the capitol. That would be sound more magical and it can really fit to the title "Magical Reading". And i like how you end it.

"I looked up from my lap,

Where my book sat,

And that’s when I realized I was reading."

I guess he figured that everything was just a dream haha :D

And its very adventurous. And i really like it :)

Good job and welcome to the YWS! :D

Haha, I really enjoyed this. :D Simple, yet powerful and true. I'd write a review, but I can't see anything that needs changing--plus I'm not very learned at all when it comes to poems. Nice work! :D

Also, welcome to YWS! If you need anything or have any questions, feel free to PM me or post a message on my wall. I hope you enjoy your time here.
