Okm Shatterpoint takes place during the Clone Wars. Jedi Master Mace Windu goes back to his home planet of Haruun Kal. Here what the back of the book says,
"The jungle planet of Haruun Kal, the homeworld Mace barely remembers, has become a battleground for the Republic and the renegde Separatist movement. The Jedi Council has sent Depa Billaba-Mace's former Padawan- to the planet to train the local tribesmen as guerrilla resistance force to fight against the Separatists. But Depa has vanished. The only clue to her disapperance is a cryptic recording that hints of madness and murder...a recording in Depa's own voice.
"Mace Windu trained her. Only he can find her. Now Mace must journey alone into one of the most treacherous jungles in the galaxy-and into his own heritage. He will leave behind the Republic he serves, the civilization he belives in, everything but his passion for peace and his devotion to his former Padawan. Yeah, that's what the back says. It's a really good book. If you're looking at well-rounded characters and the author exploring them, I think that this is the clone wars book to read!
And the NJO Series has 27 parts (some of those are short stories and ebooks). Or 20 books.
The books Lanna mentioned (the Legacy of the Force series) are all sad, though...but a lot of SW books are..
The Hand of Thrawn duology is really, really good. Luke&Mara forever!
If you're looking for a post-Return of the Jedi book...definetly the Hand of Thrawn duology.

Alright, so you Timothy Zahn fans. I decided, just for good measure, to crack open the pages and read a little. I found the second book, Dark Force Rising, comfortably seated on the bookcase, mashed in between a few other SW books. (I think I may have borrowed the first one from the library) Anyhow, I read the first few pages and noticed his very vivid details. He has a wonderful way of wording things. It wasn't as bad as I remember, and I think that is because when I read them I was 13 and now I am 17. So my tastes have aged a bit.
I would like to read them again, because I want to know what will happen to this Thrawn guy and how things will unfold for Mara and Luke. But, seeing that the 21 is only a few days away and I have my copy of HP7 already pre-ordered and ready for shipping, that may be a while. Oh, and after that I have to finish Pretties and Specials (Extras in Oct.) and then New Moon (Eclipse in Aug.) Maybe I can fit a couple SWs in with work and Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 12. *faints from pressure*
The Legacy series is good as well. At the moment I'm rereading Sacrifice

No, no, no, the NJO is a whole series of books, there are about fifty of them. My mistake I probably should have said the NJO Series and not the books.
To this I say: first, it's been a really long time and maybe my tastes have changed since then; and secondly, that it seemed like a lot of long drawn out boring chats and description. What was suspense for you was fluffy filler to me. But like I said, that was long ago.
To this I say: I really do love Star Wars. I was raised on it. I recall Kindergarten when my teacher asked me for a word beginning with "H" and I replied, "Hoth. As in the Ice planet."
But, sadly, I am not obsessed like I once was and have a long list of other books to read, as well. So I may eventually read other SW books, but as for now I only need one.
To this I say: I love characters. Give me a book where there are round characters and choices they have to make and I say, "bring it on."
Crystal Star did that for me and Thrawn did not.
So, it's not action I crave, it's characters. When I read them I skipped most of everything boring and read only the parts about Mara and Luke. They interested me.
This sounds familiar. I think it was on my book list at one point. What's it about?
Oh yeah..and how could you only read one last SW book??

Wow..you wanted to burn the best books ever (in my humble opinion)!!
Well, whatever. I really liked the Thrawn Trilogy. Timothy Zahn..is just..great! He is my favorite author ever. And if the Heirs of the Force and Dark Force Rising bored you...wouldn't The Crystal Star bore you more?! It has less action and is less suspenseful.
Well..if I'd recommend just one last trilogy/book you would read..it would be (this is a very hard question, since I've loved almost every SW book I've read)..um..well either the NJO books or one of the Clone Wars ones...I would normally recommend the Thrawn Trilogy..but..
Ok. I think you should read Survivor's Quest and it's prequel, Outbound Flight, KiteRide86. But if you want to read a book BBY..I would recommend Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover. Oh yeah, and Survivor's Quest and Outbound Flight are by Timothy Zahn.
I don't get it... why did the Thrawn Trilogy bore you, KiteRide??

Nooooo! Not NJO! Only one book? That's not nearly enough! Maybe a SW encl.? That way you'd get all of it! Or at least more of it.. whatever you do, do NOT read The Crystal Star. The only parts I liked were the parts with Jaina in it. Other than that, no. Just... no. Parts of NJO were ok (of what I've read) but I wouldn't recommend them, especially if you haven't read more of the previous books. It'll be really confusing.

Oh and I totally agree with you about Han Solo in The Courtship of Princess Leia. I loved the compitition.
Have you read The Truce At Bakura? Luke gets a lady friend. lol! Oh and I liked The Crystal Star because it was about Han and Leia's little children. They were so cute! Specially Anakin!
Probably the New Jedi Order, because so much happens in them.
I love this book too, by the time I got around to it, I was thinking it was about dang time Han had some compition, and it was about d@#n time he made his move.
Okay so don't shot me! But I read the first two books in the Thrawn trilogy and wanted to burn them! They were the worst books ever! I've never been so bored reading a book (well, with the exception of Heart of Darkness) or hated an author so much while reading his book. Oh well. Guess that's just me. I liked Mara, though.
Anyway, after that I was big into Lord of the Rings and Terry Brooks stuff. Now I'm really into vampire stuff and Manga!
I read most of my Star Wars books in the seventh grade, when Attack of the Clones came out. (I was TOTALLY crushing on Hayden Christensen, but now that I look back, he's a horrible actor and that was a horrible movie) Original trilogy fan, all the way! I grew up on that stuff. I'm pretty sure my first word was Wookie. Mom probably thought I meant to say "cookie."
So off topic, but...yeah...I started the Jedi Academy trilogy, but sadly, never finished. It was getting good, too! I don't remember why I stopped...all this talk of Star Wars is really making me want to read one...Okay, okay! Pick one If I only read one more Star Wars book/trilogy ever, which one should it be? ANYBODY?

I haven't read any star wars in a very long time, but one of my favorite books was The Courtship of Princess Leia. I, also, loved The Crystal Star. One of my favorite books of all time is, actually, The Revenge of the Sith. It was really well written and I liked it WAY better than the actual movie. The Truce at Bakura was really good, too!
I'm slowly working my way though a few of the NJO books, but so far (Vector Prime, at least) I'm having a hard time reading -- the characterizations are off from the get-go, other characters ignored, etc. Star By Star, thus far is good, as is The Joiner King, creepy though it is. I have a few other books out, I think Destiney's Way, and Agents of Chaos: Hero's Trial. Of those, I haven't started the last two, never mind that I'm reading out of order. Even with link+, I can't find most of the NJO books (yes, even with bookstores!). The Legacy books are the library, though, so once I've worked my way though what I have, there's more!

I loved the YJK books, no matter what anyone says about how they were written. See, my biggest gripe with what I've read in the NJO books is this mysterious lack of character growth -- I mean, yes Jaina will always been the pilot/mechanic, but she's as... oh. you don't want spoilers, right? *mutters about Capitan Cardboard*
Plus, I'm a Zekk fangirl -- Mr. Emo ftw!
Unfotrunately, I read all the original EU books so long ago, I can't remember them all that well. But I do remember reading several books by Timothy Zhan and loving them, and by Kevin Anderson (sans YJK) and really enjoying them.
I'll post full reviews once I'm done with the books I'm currently reading!

I've read a lot, in fact I have most of them sitting on the book shelf behind me. I have to say my favorite are the Timothy Zahn trilogy, which happens five years after Return of the Jedi.
Volume One: Heir to the Empire
Volume Two: Dark Force Rising
Volume Three: The Last Command
I like these books because with Han and Leia all tied up and married, it has to deal more with Luke's emotions, and a new Jedi by the Name of Mara Jade, who I think is my favorite of the Jedi, followed right after Jacen and Jaina and Tenel Ka and Lowbacca 'Lowie'.
These books are great, and Luke finally finds what his sister has, and you Leia does the whole Jedi thing. I highly recomend these. (I tried not to give away too much, but it's sort of hard to review a book, and not give away anything.)
I just read * drum role* Star Wars Legacy of the Force Sacrifice by, Karen Traviss. The books story line is good but some thing seariouly sad happens.
I really didn't like how the author wrote Jaina.
Other than that great book.

I just finished reading Young Jedi Knights: Shards of Alderaan by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta.
Shards of Alderaan was a good book adding to the Young Jedi Knight series, which is about Han and Leia's twins, Jacen and Jaina. I guess it kinda sets up for the NJO books.
This next part is just randomly put in there, I think. It sets up one point, which could have been added to the next book. I just don't see a point in this book in a series, but it's a fun and cliff hanging book (although you kinda know what happens). I'm a big person for character interplay, and the interplay between Tenel Ka and Jacen Solo is advancing. We all know how their relationship ends up...
They twins and their friends do meet an old family enemy, which is kind of interesting. I also thought that exploring the remains of Alderaan was pretty cool.
Overall this is a fun, light, and easy read. I would recommend it, if you want to break the intensity.
