Life is a tightrope we all walk

our only goal is to get across.

When we fall, we think all is lost

to climb back on, Sanity the cost.

Life is a tightrope, frayed, caught

with endless traps and tricks it's fraught

We pay every toll, we jump every cost

we step on heads just so we can cross

Thanks so much for all of your reviews. I found them really helpful.
The rhyming scheme and punctuation are terrible, looking back. Thank you for pointing that out to me. As for the other comments, I pretty well agree with most of them too. I'll pay more attention to things like that in the future.
And ShadowofDoubt, that line was a typo. Sorry.

Hello there, Pencils77.
This is Moonwatcher here with a short review for a short poem.

I feel like the rhyme scheme in the poem was kind of...odd and inconsistent. I feel like the rhyme is getting in the way of what you're really trying to say in the poem, not to mention some lines rhyme and others don't. I agree that if you want to have a decent rhyming poem, you should keep the rhyming consistent. And not necessarily all poems have to rhyme, either.

Another inconsistent thing here is punctuation. There aren't really any rules on punctuation in poetry, but it's somewhat of an all or nothing sort of thing. I think that for a short poem like this, punctuation would be the way to go.

I also feel like some things in the poem are a little bit repetitive. You used the metaphor "Life is a tightrope" twice, and used the words "cost" and "cross/across" twice. This would be okay, but this is a rather short poem. I feel like the last four lines are just a repeat of the first four lines in the poem. In this case, maybe just put some of the imagery along the same lines together. Not only would it make it less repetitive, it would also make the poem a little more organized.

That's all I have to say. I do hope this helps!

hey this a review.
I'll start off with what is literally wrong with the poem. I feel as if rhyme is forced in some places and just forgotten in others entirely. I would say either work hard on a functional and consistent rhyme scheme or throw it out all together and keep some internal rhymes. I won't go into specifics but giving the poem a quick once over will let you find them.

The meaning, personally this matters the most to me in a poem. The title and most of the meaning from this poem refers to the extended metaphor of life being a tightrope. It is meant to tell us that life is a hard fought battle and one where failure is always a daunting presence. I have some problems with this, mainly that while the metaphor isn't weak the idea is. Yes, life is a tough thing filled with trials and tribulations, we all know this. I feel a poem that could highlight the beauty of the world, the things we live for and the reasons we persevere would be more valued than one that states a fact of life. I do however appreciate what you put into making the metaphor a solid one. I agree with Kaos that the last line is the strongest, it also adds perhaps a theme of selfishness, being willing to sacrifice others for your own ends that can have insight into human nature.
That's all I guess.

This is Kaos here for a short review because there isn't much content to go off of, but let's begin!

The rhyming in the poem was inconsistent as in some lines you were rhyming and in others you weren't? It feels kind of randomly put unless there's a pattern where the first and last two lines aren't rhyming while the middle four are? I'd say it's a safe rule of thumb to say if you're going to make a poem rhyme, you should try to have the rest of it or at least the rest of the stanza rhyme as well.

Some of the imagery in this poem felt like it was kind of bland or there could've been more to it. On the other hand, some of the lines felt very strong, also feeling like there was more potential to the line. I'm specifically talking about this one:

we step on heads just so we can cross

The line felt stronger than the rest of the lines in the poem.

In the fifth line, I felt you didn't need to repeat "Life is a tightrope"? The readers already heard it once before, this could have been replaced with a new line or new imagery/content as there's already not much here.

In some parts of the poem you used punctuation at the end of your lines but in the rest you didn't. You should be doing one or the other, and I personally suggest putting in punctuation for this poem as it would flow better if you did.

That's all I have to say about the poem as it doesn't have too much content to say off of, so have a great day.
