I sat in shock, my body rigid, glaring at him. "What do you mean, 'good news'?! That's the opposite of good news!" I exclaimed, my hands clenched into such tight fists that my knuckles were pearly white. I knew I shouldn't have spoken with such ferocity to him, but I couldn't help it, in fact, I was ready to spurt out some more. "Do you seriously think-" I snapped my mouth shut as Nick Fury leaned forward, giving me one of his steely, cold, 'shut it' glares with that one eye.
"Agent Barton, I understand your concern." He started, his voice sounding unnaturally calm for his previous announcement, "However, Thor would not have told us this if he was not certain that Loki was telling the truth."
I scoffed, rolling my eyes and looking over at the blonde god of thunder. "If I remember correctly, Loki has appeared to be very honest before, has he not?" My stormy grey eyes narrowed at Thor, wondering how he could possibly justify what had just been announced to myself and the other Avengers. I noticed that many of them looked shocked, in fact, the only one that didn't look shocked was Stark. That was no surprise.
It had been a year since Loki's rampage on Earth. Clint seemed to have recovered alright, as had Natasha and the others. Now, Thor and Fury had just said what I had deemed impossible-Loki was not what he used to be. By that, they meant that apparently, the god of mischief had a change of heart, and while he did not love us by any means, he had sworn not to harm any of us again, and that he would help us when we needed him.
Thor spoke up. "If I may finish, I will continue to tell about this." He said, his blue eyes fixed on me. I shrugged, and leaned back in my chair. He cleared his throat before continuing, "Loki may not be of Asgard, but I still consider him my brother. He has sworn in the tongue of the gods that he will aid us when we need him, and he will bring no more harm to Earth, or any of its inhabitants. By doing this, if Loki were to break this oath, he would be destroyed instantly, forever." Again I rolled my eyes; I was not going to fall for any of that.
After what Loki had done to Manhattan, I highly doubted whether any of the Avengers were keen on believing Thor. I looked around. Clint and Natasha looked shocked, but they kept glancing at me, like I was the bad guy. Strangely enough, Rogers and Banner were appearing to be fine with this announcement. Stark was indifferent, as always. I stood, "How can any of you just be sitting there, like nothing's going on?!" I demanded. "That maniac is going to be allowed back here!" I stared at my brother. Of all people, he should be the most afraid. He stood, and was fixing to answer me when Fury interrupted again. "Barton, one more interruption, and I will see you removed from this room." He growled.
I whirled to face him. "I don't care! You're all crazy!" I didn't even notice Clint standing behind me. "Emily, shut up." He whispered to me, but I ignored him. "If you think for one minute that I'm going to-" I kept talking, but nobody heard me through Hawkeye's hand. He pulled me out of the room, and made me stand outside the door. "Emily, calm down, he's not here right now, is he?" His hazel eyes were giving me the look that he had perfected. It wasn't caution, but it obviously brought the point across that I should shut up and listen to him. Twenty five years of getting that look had barely done any good, but I listened to him this time. "Clint, after what he did, how can you just be sitting there in silence? How can anybody not be doing anything?"
He shrugged. "I don't know, just practice, I guess. Now, stay out here while I go listen to the rest of what Fury has to say, alright?" He turned, and walked back into the room before I got a chance to object. With a hmph of aggravation, I leaned against the wall, fuming and waiting.
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),
Hi! I'm Knight Hardy here on a mission to ensure that all works on YWS has at least two reviews. You will probably never see this but....Imma do this anyway.
First Impression: Okay...as a big fan of the Avengers, this was a pretty fun fic to take a look at here....and I think this is a fairly decent starting point here for one of those, it certainly caught my interest at any rate.
Anyway let's get right to it,
Okay...well somebody appears to be quite mad at Nick there...and well, that's not exactly surprising considering his character, but well, it does still manage to get your attention pretty well her to get this story off to a start, so yeah, nice start here.
Hmm...okay now we finally have a bit of context for this argument currently going on here...and well I will say this sounds rather plausible. Considering what Clint went through during that ordeal with Loki, whatever has been announced here being something that his sister here doesn't like at all is pretty easy to imagine. And the other avengers kind of being silent on the matter is interesting but I don't think that's suuper in character. I feel like they would speak up a bit more here.
Her not falling for that seems reasonable enough, she probably has no experience with much magic things but the fact that no one else is freaking out at all and totally cool with this seems a little unlikely. Especially when one person is already shouting here, I'd expect some of the other avengers to speak up.
Hmm, well, that is interesting to see how Clint, but I think this is fairly in character for him, he probably realizes this isn't particularly a bad thing...and I suppose if Fury can trust the man, I think most of the other avengers might agree, but some of the ones that Loki personally insulted and manipulated definitely need to be speaking up a lot more.
Hmm, well it looks like Hawkeye ends up taking her aside to tell her to calm down there...which seems like a reasonable although judging by how Clint is acting her, one does have to wonder if he perhaps has an ulterior motive in how he's active there. He's being awfully calm about things and almost hinting that something more could happen.
Aaaaand that's it for this one.
Overall: Overall, we have ourselves a fairly solid looking piece right here...I feel like a few avengers are being far too silent for it be true to the movie..but otherwise, I think this is a decent enough start to a story here.
As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.
Stay Safe

Hey there. So I'm not a big Avengers fan, but I have seen the movie (love it btw) so I'm going to base the review on that.
First off, I notice your take on Hawkeye is a bit off. He complains and worries a bit too much for my liking. If I recall, he was a pretty composed person in the movie (so composed that he never even misses with his bow and arrow). Maybe that's just me, but I did expect Hawkeye here to be more composed than this.
Now one of the big things I like about the Avengers is that all the different heroes have different quirks about them (eg: Stark being quite witty and a smart mouth, Bruce Banner being smart, wary and quiet etc ) and when they interact with one another, there is a very humanistic quality to it; at the end of the day they were just people after all. I would like if you could focus more on the quirks of the individual heroes, because that was one of the selling points of the movie.
It would also be nice if I had a better idea of where they are. Are they on the airship? Are they at the HQ? I absolutely have no idea where they are having this argument.
Hope this helped.
Andy.
