Juliet: A Tale of a Deadly Sin
I didn't know if Juliet was my love or my lust. Whenever she invaded my thoughts she consumed them, burning red hot trails through my brain, leaving a sweet smelling smoke behind that only I could smell. Every time I glanced at her butter yellow hair my stomach would drop ten feet below me. Her sapphire eyes sent tingles through my skin, causing pangs of longing to cut through my body. My nights were spent dreaming of her, my days thinking of her. She would pass me in the hallway and the smell of cinnamon and spice filled my nose.
Juliet sat in the seat on my left in Calculus. I'd spend most of the hour with sweating palms and nervous glances to see what she was doing. Every so often she would smile at me softly and return to scratching away at her work with her pencil. Her pencil was a purple mechanical one that she never seemed to be without and I loved to watch it swirl across her paper. The way her handwriting curved effortlessly made me look at my own plain writing in dislike.
Tuesday morning we were working on complicated equations and the sun was starting to come up over the trees. The light streamed gently through the window and I glanced over at Juliet. Her hair was glowing softly and her rosy pink lips moved without a sound as she worked through a problem. Seeming to struggle, I leaned over and whispered, “Hey, do you need some help?”
She looked up, almost startled. Finding her voice, she said, “Um, yeah. Actually.” She smiled, showing me her million dollar teeth. “That would be great!” Scooting her chair over so that our desks were touching, she showed me her paper. “I'm having some trouble with problem fourteen,” she explained, pointing to her work. Furrowing my brow, I scrutinized her problem solving and shook my head.
“You're doing it all wrong,” I told her rubbing my hand through my black hair. Pulling a rubber band off of my wrist, I threw my hair into a messy bun and took the liberty of erasing her entire problem. “Factorials are really quite simple, once you get the hang of them,” I went on. “Here's what you want to do...” I started to complete a problem, making sure that she understood everything.
When I finished, I looked at her and said, “Do you get it?”
“You're really good at math, aren't you?” she laughed. “I'm more of an English person.”
I blushed all the way to my ears. “Um, yeah,” I stuttered. “I'm considering engineering. You know, for a career.” When she smiled again, I felt my face grow even hotter.
“I figured when you said you wanted to be an engineer.”
Awkwardly, I looked down at my desk and pulled my hair out of the elastic. I didn't know what to do other than wring my hands together. The smell of cinnamon filled my nose and I wanted so badly to run my hands through her hair. I wanted to touch her lips with my index finger. Longing filled my chest cavity. It was taking all my strength not to lean over and kiss her.
Juliet looked down at her sweater and picked an invisible piece of hair off. We sat in another moment of silence before she said, “So, can you help me with another problem?”
Snapping out of my daze of staring at her, I nodded and swallowed hard. “Sure thing.”

I have been reviewing all day, typically because it's review day and had only come across one great piece that I fell in love with, it was a short story. Now this makes it 2 great works! This is simply incredible. The way you were able to weave in every detail of the story without giving away too much.
Great work like this should be published because it's just perfect. Forgive me for saying one thing over and over again but I just can't describe how perfect this is.
There are some parts, however that I dont understand and their are some parts that I read over and over because it was so good.
I loved this part:
I don't know why but I think it was such a love scene! When they looked at each other- love at first sight!
Now this part confused me a little:
I was wondering if it was a girl who had attractions to another girl or was it a boy with long hair?
A writer must make it his/ her priority to make his/her main character clear. The reader must understand the main character's emotions and appearance and come full into context with that character. That line confused me, I still can't figure out whether it's a boy or a girl.
(If it's a girl having lesbian attractions, I am 100% for the Equality movement).
Otherwise your story was incredible.

First I like to say that I enjoyed your story with all it's wonderful detail. One of the things I didn't get and I know this has been stated before is your main character a boy or girl. Im guessing your meaning it to be a girl with saying they have long hair and its their sin but I would really like to actually know and not just guess. It would really make the story more enjoyable in my opinion. Also you say that Juliet leaves a red path in the mc's brain just a thought but wouldn't purple be more suitable?
Hi Luxe, I'm Day and I'm here to review your story!
) thinks about Juliet is just amazing. I was able to get a really good idea of what Juliet looked like. The detail also makes it apparent that our protagonist spends a lot of time just looking at her. This was pretty good for a romantic short story, but there are a few things that I think you could improve.
I really liked this! The amount of detail that you've put into showing how much our protagonist (is it a guy or a girl, by the way?
Firstly, the protagonist. I loved the way you described their feelings, and was pretty sure it's a guy until I came to this line:
And then I was like, 'What the heck? Is it a guy with long hair or a girl?' I feel like you should really clarify that. It's important to know the main character well, and even though we get a good idea of how they feel, I'm still not sure if it's a 'he' or a 'she'. See if you can add that in anywhere, please.
And the whole thing about Juliet smelling like cinnamon and spice. That just reminded me of (believe it or not) the Powerpuff Girls, who were made of 'sugar and spice and everything nice', and also of a very overused cliché. Some other people might like this, but I'm not one for cliché stuff. I actually find the whole someone-always-smelling-like-lavender-or-cinnamon-or-vanilla very unrealistic and typical.
Other than that, I didn't find anything wrong with your story. Again, I love the amount of detail you've put into this. It really gives a clear, well-defined image and that's always good. Overall, this is a good story. I'd rate it 7/10, or maybe seven and a half.
I hoped this review helped, somehow. Keep writing!
