To a typical civilian, words are groups of letters.
Given meanings so communication is possible.
To a book, words are their beating heart.
One reason they are able to survive.
To a child, words are a skill to learn.
Each one to come along new and exciting.
To letters, words are their hangouts.
The things that bring them together, and give them meaning and purpose.
Yet to a writer, words are everything.
Carefully molded puzzle pieces at their disposal.
Though each word is unique,
they have one common definition;
The heart and soul of humanity.

Beautifully written, and completely true!!
)
Maybe consider editing "One reason they are able to survive" to "A reason their little soul can stay alive." (Make it more detailed, and change "one" to "a" because it's the only reason!!
And change "Yet to a writer" to "And to a writer" because when you write "yet" it makes the other things seem trifling.
And I didn't exactly understand how each word is the heart and soul of humanity when I read that I felt it was a very drastic sudden movement like whhhaaaat that progressed quickly
Anyways, beautiful poem! A star you have earned from me my friend!
Hello! I'm SecreteJournalist, but do feel free to call me Brie if you please. Though I'm just a little bit late...
I hope you're liking the website so far. We truly are like a strange family, and are always glad to welcome a new member!(:
ANYWAYS, enough with my excessive talking. I'll get onto reviewing! I'll review this in parts.. Grammar/Spelling, Punucation, and Concept.
Grammar/Spelling
I read through this poem and was shocked to find no grammatical errors. Also, I have yet to find a spelling error. So good work!
Punctuation
Hmm.. Maybe I should of included this part. Your punctuation skills are excellent.
Concept
I just kind of made this to go over words and ideas that are through the poem. Before I go onto praise, I'll go through just a single, tiny nitpick.
This seemed to be almost a run on sentence, and it's the longest one. It took me a while to process it. You don't have to change that, but it's just kind of the only 'dislike' I had about this poem.
As for praise, I did love the main idea! It truly captures the essence of writing and words.. Great job on that!
I suppose my review is over. Keep writing, I'd like to see more poems from you!
Sincerely,
