Ridble No. 1

PreviousNext

It swings by its hands,

But does not move on its own.

It is all around,

And it is commonly known.

.

A mouth without teeth,

That swallows everything whole.

A grave guardian,

Solemn and without a soul.

.

After a motion,

It retraces the old steps.

The path cannot change,

It simply does the same reps.

.

Never touching down,

It floats above the floor.

Agile as a cat,

But it's sturdy to the core.

.

.
If you still don't know,

Then listen closely.

It rhymes with a rhyme,

That you've read previously.

I know you marked it as a spoiler, but I still accidentally saw the answer. Not cool, man. Can you please edit this and take out the answer?

Also, by typing out the entire Star Spangled Banner, you're unfairly gaining points. That's also a problem.

On a side note, I didn't even know that the US national anthem had two other verses. :/

Hello, there!

Ooh, a riddle! Like Willowpaw, I'll guess at the end, but this should be interesting to review! She also pointed out your grammatical errors, so I'll leave those alone. :)

A lot of times, your rhyming and rhythm seems off to me, like the previous reviewer said. I think that you should go and change this to make the poem more fluid. It seems kind of sloppy if the rhythm is constantly going all over the place and if the rhymes only sort of work. That's just a suggestion; you don't have to do it.

I do like your description of whatever the answer to the riddle is. It sounds very mysterious, almost like one of the prophecies from the Percy Jackson series.

A mouth without teeth

This line is just so... riddle-y. A mouth without teeth? But how? Then, you start thinking of other mouths, like mouths of caves and rivers, and it's just a very nice line for the riddle. Great job there!

Okay then. I have no idea what this could be. At first I was thinking about a clock, because of hands, but now I'm not so sure. Um... *shrugs* A ceiling fan? I honestly have no idea, but I'll keep thinking about it and see if I can come up with something. :)

Keep up the good work!

Hi!

I'm just going to do a super quick review, since this is more for entertainment that a long reading.

First: you title is spelled wrong. :P Probably just a small typo.

It can bring much pain,

If one throws away caution.

It will move for some,

If they have it's condition.

This stanza doesn't seem to ryhme, unless condition and caution ryhme, which is doesn't sound like it does. But maybe so. *shrugs*

If they have it's condition.

It's should be its, because it's showing possession and it's is the contraction for it is, which is not appropriate here.

That you've read previously.

This line's syllables just seem off. Because I'm pretty sure previously is supposed to ryhme with closely, but this last line feels like it has to many syllables.

Okay, review over! Guessing time!

Hmm... I actually have no idea. I would say a ghost or a shadow, but the last stanza made me change my mind. I'm not sure. I'll keep thinking!

Perhaps when we find ourselves wanting everything, it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing.
