Drafts

I swear, I have six hundred drafts!

But none of them are good enough

I could post the sequel piece

Or the one secretly about my ex

Or what about the one about autism?

Oh, that's right,

I didn't actually finish those

Yet here I am

Completely out of ideas for those,

Writing a new piece

And what shall it be about?

My autism?

My crappy ex?

My good ex?

Hmm, what a difficult choice

Nah, those will have to stay

In the six hundred drafts

That is, for today

It's about not having ideas

Which kind of makes no sense,

Am I right?

There's no central theme,

There's no rhyming scheme,

And I don't have another word that ends with "eme"

So how can I have the idea for this

When I have no ideas at all?

There isn't even a standard stanza length

Which I usually pride myself on

They're in each of the six hundred drafts

But

I have a new poem!

And still six hundred drafts!

Maybe I'll fix one up now

Or wait six months

Maybe I'll write another no-inspo poem

Or maybe I'll be fresh out

Of central themes

Rhyming schemes

And stanzas to add

But at least I have my six hundred drafts!

Hey, Logan! This is Alex and I'm picking this poem of yours for my review today. Let's begin!

Okay, this was very fun to read, I'll give you that. The target readers are writers themselves, who know what goes on behind the scenes of poetry writing. The title is rather direct and fitting. Also, I loved the carefree tone despite these many drafts. It portrays an optimistic outlook on life, instead of worrying over incomplete projects.

But none of them are good enough

I believe every writer and poet could relate to this at some point of their lives. No matter how many rounds of editing, we do, the countless hours of reasearch that goes into it- it will never be enough in our eyes. Even if everyone in the world were to agree that it's a masterpiece, we'll still find a flaw that will bug us for eternity.

Or the one secretly about my ex
Or what about the one about autism?

I liked how the topics you mention are personally relevant yet so random. It adds a realistic yet fun touch to the poem.

Oh, that's right,
I didn't actually finish those

I definitely get this thing. There are some poetries I started with all zest but never managed to complete. It's difficult to get in the same vibe after your trance has been broken for a while, you know?

Yet here I am
Completely out of ideas for those,
Writing a new piece
And what shall it be about?

These lines are so effortlessly well written. They convey the feeling and situation in such a simple way. These lines resonated very deeply with me. Most of the time, it's much easier to start anew when you pick up the pen again.

My crappy ex?
My good ex?
Hmm, what a difficult choice

Going off the track, those sound some fantastic works in progress I'd love to read sometime. I'll look forward to reading them if you manage to get them out of the drafts, those sound like a juicy read. (I'm all for some gossip lol)

Nah, those will have to stay
In the six hundred drafts
That is, for today

Again, a great choice of words here. Quite skillfully written. Despite the silly theme of the poem, the way it's phrased is contrastingly refined- a perfect combination.

It's about not having ideas
Which kind of makes no sense,

So concisely wrapped!

There's no central theme,
There's no rhyming scheme,
And I don't have another word that ends with "eme"

I love what you've done here! I was like oooooohhh it's developing a rhyme but nope, you popped my delusional bubble quick. These lines gave me a laugh, so commendable job!

There isn't even a standard stanza length
Which I usually pride myself on
They're in each of the six hundred drafts

I can clearly see how this poem stands out from the six hundred drafts. You're stepping out from your usual style of poetry, that's what makes this poem so special and refreshing.

Maybe I'll fix one up now
Or wait six months
Maybe I'll write another no-inspo poem

I love the diverse cited possibilities, all very real! Maybe this was just the break you need before you get back into finishing those drafts or perhaps, it encouraged you to write more of these freestyle poems, leaving the drafts unattended. Also, it might be that this poem has absolutely no affect today and even if you think about winding up those drafts, it'll take you half a year to convince yourself and finally get started. The struggles of writing is depicted in such a relatable light, I'm amazed.

I hope you clear your draft backlog pretty soon, because that genuinely sounds as a huge number! I can't even imagine myself in your shoes, really. Even a few drafts sitting for long make me spiral, I cannot imagine what it must be like for 600! It's a great perspective though, leaving all the baggage behind to start a new project and finish it this well. Overall, I found this an amusing poetry you read on a lazy Sunday. It's fun, relatable and very well phrased. Remarkable work! I enjoyed reading and reviewing it very much. Hope to read more from you sometime soon!

Hi!! Thank you so much for reviewing <3 it was awesome to read all your feedback. All of it was so nice and supportive! There aren't really 600 drafts lol, but it does feel like it. I'll scroll through them and be like, "Wow... That's a lot of drafts..." but it's way less than 600. Maybe I have 600 total if I include the unfinished haikus and book chapters that aren't drafts here...

Phew, I'm relieved to hear that. That was a huge number! Still, I hope you manage to complete those, however few, drafts so that I can read and review more of our awesome work! Regards, Alex

It was quite a large exaggeration! I hope your writing and reviewing goes well!! Thank you!

The title caught me in. Hi, it's CATS here, and with another review! Lets start reading:
The first paragraph is like talking to me, honestly, so relatable XD
The second paragraph describes the different types of poems you write, interesting! I hope you can finish those XD
OOO, the third paragraph has rhyming! Love it!
The fourth paragraph: yes, of course you're right.
Even though the fifth paragraph says there is no rhyme scheme, I love the rhyme scheme (lol) and how you said there was no other words that rhymes with eme.
The sixth paragraph has humor!!!
The seventh paragraph is great, how you wrote about your drafts in a brand new poem!
The last and final paragraph ends it off with humor as well.
Overall, I love it, it is great, and I look forward to more of your works! Just be careful with your punctuation, like in the beginning, hundred is spelled wrong.
Anyways, I think it is awesome, and Happy Writing!
From,
CATS387

Hii! Thank you so much! Thanks for letting me know that it was spelled wrong :3

No problem!!! Happy to review :D

I would be a terrible novel protagonist.
