The "therapist friend" it's funny how perfectly that's fits because that's exactly it. People come to you for their problems, not caring about yours and they only talk to you when they have "appointments" scheduled because they know that no matter what... You'll comfort them, and stupidly everytime you talk, hope begins to spark, just for it to die down when you're ignored the next day because after their comforted, they get bored.
It hurts profoundly, the constant hurt and the fact that they only find you when you don't want to be found, saying that you're okay knowing that you're not sure if you can make it past today, and knowing that because of you, THEY lived to see another day.
"The therapist friend" it has such a nice ring to it.
It symbolizes how people only remember you when they need someone to talk to and no matter how much it hurts or now tiring it is, you push through it.
But you need help too, you need to take care of yourself but who's there for you?
Everyone sees you as a therapist and barely anyone asks their therapist how THEY are doing. Therapists get a simple hi while their clients ramble on and the therapist keeps their feelings inside, pushed aside like a a stray hair because no one actually cares.
"The Therapist Friend" but while you help everyone just for them to forget, who takes care of you?
Do you have an answer yet?

This is so beautiful and so emotional. Every single line was full of emotion, and as a lover of rhetorical questions, the ones you used are so punchy, and it's just incredible. I love the simile
because I feel like that perfectly sums up the feeling of being a Therapist friend. One of my favourite lines was
because it's so emotional, and it's actually bringing me to tears. A+, no notes. Genuinely amazing, I love it so much. I'll stop now before I start waffling. Keep up your incredible work!
I really liked this! The way you described being the “therapist friend” felt really raw and relatable. I especially liked the idea of people coming to you when they need comfort and then disappearing once they feel better. The contrast between always being there for others while secretly needing someone yourself was really well expressed. And the ending, “who takes care of you?”, leaves a strong impact because it makes the reader think. The “appointments” part was also such a clever detail. Also, my dream is to become a therapist, so this piece felt especially meaningful to me.
Hey! I think you wrote this not really as a poem, but more like an inner monologue, which for me actually makes it better. The whole thing is about the frustration of being the person who everyone needs, but who no one thinks about. And the phrase therapist friend is used a couple times as a hook and your going around explaining what you mean by that.
Right away you have some contrast because it's not that you dislike helping people, it's that the situation itself is one sided. People come in to get their issues resolved and leave them unresolved for you.
The part that I really like is when you say how whenever they come to you again, for the first time ever, you actually think they might want to hear about you.
Because you are contrasting the fact that this isn't a relationship where you expect something in return, but you do actually want to be cared for just as much as you give. You wanted to help them out purely because you enjoy it, but it's still something you want to be appreciated for.
Something else I think is really great is the way you use the word therapist itself. You aren't talking about an actual therapist, you're talking about a friend who ended up filling that role for some reason. That's why towards the end you compare this friend to an actual therapist and contrast it by saying everyone barely ever asks their therapist how THEY are doing.
And I think the use of capitalization there is smart as well because it brings to mind the question that this whole thing is about, so the whole poem is kind of an answer to that.
I think you did a smart job of using the phrase The therapist friend at the beginning and towards the end as a conclusion. It almost sounds funny when you first say it, but the second time it's a lot more serious because you know what it means now. And as a closing statement, you didn't really give an answer that might hint at who takes care of the therapist friend, you went straight and asked the listener instead.
I think what you did wrong was separating the paragraphs. Everything should have been separated into lines for certain phrases, especially because it has such a sad and heavy tone to it. I think if you made some paragraphs short, it would give the phrases more meaning and it would actually sound like a poem.
But overall, the poem is excellent. Not only is it straightforward about the issue, but it also asks if the therapist friend even has any value besides taking care of everyone around them.
Lovely work! <3
this hits way too close to home fr, being the "therapist friend" gets so exhausting when no one ever checks in on you back. setting boundaries and taking care of your own mental health has to come first. whenever i feel overwhelmed listening to everyone else's problems and need a break, i usually just hop on Search Game to clear my head for a bit lol. thanks for writing this, really relatable!
