Harry Potter and the Girl on Fire. part one

PreviousNext

"Peeta!! Peeta!!" Katniss Everdeen stumbled through the maze of corridors.

She blamed all this on Haymitch. He abandoned Peeta and herself in District 12; which had been reduced to rubble amongst  the stench of burnt flesh and smoke. Katniss turned away for one second, one second, then Peeta was gone- leading Katniss to this place. Wherever "this place" was?

"Peeta!!" She had noted that the building looked like a castle from a fairy tale. Like life in Panem was a fairy tale, Katniss scoffed. Maybe for the Capitol, it is?

The clicking of her bow, against her back, filled the halls with sound- like a melody. Her heavy breathing as a bass line. "Peeta!!" Her braided hair swept around her, as if it were a weapon of its own.

After running round the place like a mad woman, Katniss decided to start searching the rooms- if there were any. She mostly found paintings in place of doors. Who designed this place?! Hands on knees and sweating in places Katniss didn't even know she could sweat in, she was giving up. Planning on coming back another day and dragging Haymitch back with her. Once she got hold of him, first. "Password?" Katniss scrunched her face in concentration, after being so distracted in finding Peeta. Password?

"Password?" The voice was high pitched and demanding. Almost like Effie's. She turned round to face the source of the voice, "i don't know the....oh." There was a woman, with the figure of an opera singer. Everything would've been perfectly normal, except, the woman was in a painting..."What the?!"

"Darling, I'm gonna need a password, otherwise I can't let you through." Correction, this woman was nothing like Effie. She was broad. Her voice husky and deep. Katniss found a sudden dislike in this woman. She acted too proud of herself. "I don't know the password!" Where was there to go, anyway. Katniss had been running around for at least fourty five minutes. Though there wasn't much to see; mainly portraits.

"You may enter." Huh? The painting opened automatically, revealing a hole in the wall. A door. "Erm...thank...you?" Katniss scrambled through the opening. She was surprised. A . The room she walked into looked like something you'd find in a common Capitol household. In other words: Snows's place, except more acceptable compared to Capitol fashion.

She became so distracted she hadn't even noticed a boy, with a lightning scar, walk up to her and say, "Welcome to District 12.5. Or, as it was formerly named, Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." He, and what seemed like his friends, a redheaded boy and a girl holding on to a pile of hardback, smiled warmly at her.

Katniss wasn't sure whether to smile back. So instead she showed no emotion.

A/N ah, a Hunger Games/ Harry Potter fan fiction crossover. It's all too much. I'm not particularly happy with this draft , as the original I had written got deleted half way through it and I only just managed to remember some parts of the original. So I hope you enjoy. I do not in any way own Harry Potter OR The Hunger Games' characters or theme. Both belong to either J.K.Rowling or Suzanne Collins.

Hey! short review on your idea,

first of all the idea of a crossover totally worked in my head and I was like woah that sounds amazing your title totally got me intrested!
As you added in your note yourself, it's just too much I think. I don't know how you could work out magic on the one hand and Katniss having to fight for her life with her bare hands? I mean I think this might get complicated in a war scene.
Plus the setting in thg is supposed to represent our countries after a war in the future (districts as in continents and such?) so you gotta find a way to make sure the idea of hogwarts being so close is working out.

However, I really hope you find a way to make this work!

Kind regards,

sophiewrites

I had an idea of making it work by, trying not to release any spoilers, adding a little twist on some of the characters.

yessssssss perfect I'm excited already

Hi there!

"Peeta!!" "Peeta!!" Katniss Everdeen stumbled through the maze of corridors.

First of all, I think this is a strong opening sentence. You've brought us in in the middle of the action, so to speak. Katniss is wandering around looking for Peeta. That really gets us thinking. Why is she looking for Peeta? Where is she? After reading this I knew that I had to read on to find out what happened next.

Secondly, you need to fix the quotation marks. Katniss is calling his name twice, yes? So that should be in one set of quotation marks. It should look like this: "Peeta! Peeta!" That way we understand that it's all within one set of dialogue. Otherwise, it seems like someone else called for Peeta as well since there seems to be two separate collections of dialogue.

which had been reduced to rubble and the stench of burnt flesh and smoke.

This might just be a personal preference here, but I think you should say "in the stench" instead of "and the stench". Using the word 'and' makes it feel like it was reduced to a stench, which really can't happen. I'm thinking literally here and it just seems like a strange description.

Well, I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. When I saw this piece, I wasn't exactly sure what to think. To be honest, I wasn't expecting anything like this. I really wasn't sure what to expect. But I think that this is a great idea. I am a complete Harry Potter junkie so I have to say I'm quite interested.

Now, since this is a fanfiction, I'm not really sure what to say. I guess I'll focus on the story rather than the characters, yeah? 'Cause they're other people's characters and there really isn't a way for you to make them better since they're already amazing <3

I have one small nitpick in the understanding of this chapter. Katniss describes the outside of the castle, but then all of the sudden she's in the castle. You could make that a bit more clear. How did she get into the castle in the first place? If you just make the beginning a bit more clear as to where exactly she is, then it'll make more sense later on.

I do hope that you'll explain when this story is taking place in future chapters. I mean, obviously it takes place after the 74th Games, but Katniss isn't as moody and paranoid as she was after those Games. So I'm wondering when all of this is taking place. I'm sure you'll go into more detail later, but make sure that you introduce it soon. Otherwise we might all get a bit lost ;)

Let me know when you post more! I'm excited to see where this goes.

Keep writing!

Your review really helped. Thanks ^-^

Okay, so it was very, shall I say, brave of you to come up with an idea like this, in my opinion at least. And, I must say that you are doing a good enough job with it. You could still primp it up, since you aren't very much satisfied with it. And by the way, it was hilarious that the Gryffindor common room password is "idontknowthepassword". Very original. I like it.
One thing though.

Surprised, yet amazed.

Are you sure this sentence makes sense?
I understand that if you're talking about Katniss's bow this must be somewhere in the middle of Mockingjay. And I sort of like how you call Hogwarts District 12.5. Like platform 9 and 3/4. If you're going to continue this its going to take a lot of work. And I wanna see how it turns out. So, keep me tuned for any updates, kay?
