I remember hearing such good things about this book, and I was really looking forward to it, and then I found it... disappointing.
I think I was expecting too much of it. I mean, it wasn't a bad book, but it most certainly wouldn't rank amongst my favourites. I was expecting it to be a whole lot better. You know the way when something's built up it's bound not to be as good as it's made out to be?
And I really didn't like the Lollipop Shoes either. The café was cool, but the new MC, Zozie or whatever her name was really annoyed me. I thought the friendship between Anouk and the boy who hung out in the cemetry was cool, but Anouk's situation with being bullied in school and stuff I found unlikely and unoriginal. And Pantoufle...
I don't know, they just didn't appeal to me...

Mmmm I want to read now :]]]
Why would she make changes like that? Pretty weird... I don't think I'd mind the POV changes too much but when they start changing names it's just odd.
I agree though, sequals are often disappointing. Not always but... quite often.
I think it lost some of its spark, to be honest. Vianne was trying to be normal, and this time there were three characters narrating: Vianne (now called Yanne), Anouk (Annie) and Zozie, which meant the characterisation was focused enough.
But sequels are always disappointing.
I LOVED chocolat when I read it. I was a bit disappointed that they took all those lovely references to magic and all the great frenchyness out of it or the movie (although the movie was good too). I haven't read the sequal yet...I keep meaning to but it keeps slipping my mind. Was it as good as the first one? Her writing style was beautiful, I just loved the way her voice sounded...
