Somethings Never Change

This is for Cammie's new contest, it is very short but I hope you like it. It was inspired from picture number three.

Somethings Never Change

It was sudden, almost too sudden when the sky darkened, clouds rolling in to form a storm head. Looking large, dark, and dangerous. Even though with-in certain areas a slice of heavenly blue peeked out. Watching the little humans prepare for what they thought must be a violent thrashing from mother nature. Like all mothers, she didn't have to have a reason to go on a rampage. And if anyone were to ask the agitated women she would only smile evilly, as some do and thrash harder. So instead most kept their heads down and moved on their way, hoping that things would pass over without much damage. All except one. Most people thought her quite crazy, and indeed with her wire rim glasses titling on her nose, wild violet like eyes, and crazy wind blown white hair. It was an honest assumption. Looney Lucy was an odd one for sure.

She was currently sitting on the roof of her summer home, breathing in the smell of rain and feeling the wind starting to stir. She knew this storm would be a doozy, the wind and lightening where bickering like an old married couple already. He, the wind, blew harder and harder even pulling trees from their roots. She, the lightening, struck violently and quickly. Her voice the roaring thunder in answer to the winds howling screams. Back and forth they fought, dancing around each other. All the while Looney Lucy watched with delight, even as the wind pushed at her, and the lightening raised the hair on her arms. She waited, and waited, but for what...no one really knew. All anyone who might have seen her would have witnessed, was a determined expression on her wrinkled face. Completely ignoring the white hair plastered to her face or the possible danger of her position. The wind picked up and the lightening began to strike quicker and more often. This battle between lovers was to be a violent one.

Lucy leaned forward her hands cupping her knobby knees as she watched what she had been waiting for. The cyclone came whirling down, its screams of anger loud and fast as it whirred and spit. The lightening struck once more bigger and louder, before a moment passed. The cyclone still whirred but an eerie calm filled the air, a sort of tingling. Almost as if the yelling had stopped for a moment and quiet whispers took its place. The lightening struck a final time, close to the cyclone. Lighting it's clouds up brilliantly, arms of electricity reaching out. Almost as if to touch its partner before departing back with-in the clouds.

The lightning stopped and after a few more stubborn moments the wind followed. Releasing its violent creation to disappear as quickly as it had appeared. The grey clouds were moved along slowly, to allow the sun to brighten the damage of the city. It wasn't pretty but Lucy hardly cared now that the fight was over and done with. She stood, her green dress swirling around her in the lighter breeze, reaching out her hands and throwing back her head she laughed and then was gone. The place she reappeared at, was not one mortals transpired. She was transformed, her skin supple and smooth as a youth. Her face lovely and kind. A smile was worn on the young but ancient face as she walked barefoot to the small enclosure where two lovers lay side by side holding hands.

"So you two came to your senses?" Lucy asked her hands on her lean hips. The two on the ground smiled and leaned forward to share a small chaste kiss. The female looked to be around 17, her long hair a vivid electric yellow it was frizzy but somehow looked stunning all the same. Her eyes were the stormy grey of the clouds. The male was the same age, his hair long, wavy, and the lightest tint of blonde. His eyes were almost completely colorless.

"We have mother." The boy said, smiling. The girl grinned impishly.

"What were you two even fighting about?" Lucy asked expectantly. The two lovers looked down to the ground, the girl cheeks a bright red, she was the one that answered.

"Who scares humans more." Lucy growled, unknowingly causing a freak earthquake near by.

"Wait! Wait! We decided it was you mother, only you!" The boy told his mother calmingly. Lucy was pacified for the moment but the evil look in her eyes told the two lovers that they might regret having ever said anything. The two only relaxed the women walked out of sight. Most likely to go lend a helping hand to her precious humans. Together they sighed then smiled replaying the after glow of their destruction. Without a care in the world. For what is it to the forces of nature that pain, and damage was caused.

They were too distant from the beings that they had hurt to even feel a sliver of guilt from their rampage. The people of the town worked tirelessly to rebuild what had been lost, never even thinking of blaming the wind nor the lightening for their strife. Mother Nature, disguised in her Looney Lucy form worked alongside them, not completely understanding but willing to try. A few days later the two lovers found themselves sentenced to cleaning the whole of the Lucy's domain. And though they did with little complaint it was not a day after they started, that a new fight began and the destruction continued. But what can you expect when the forces of nature turn upon one another with little care to those below. It is inevitable as a lightening strike, or the force of the wind. Somethings you can never chance.

Awesome story! just a few little things.

#0000BF ">Even though with-in certain areas a slice of heavenly blue peeked out.
I think it would sound better if you reversed it
#FF0000 ">Even though a slice of heavenly blue peeked out within certain areas.

I liked how you described Lucy.

#000080 ">the wind and lightening where bickering like an old married couple already. He, the wind, blew harder and harder even pulling trees from their roots. She, the lightening, struck violently and quickly. Her voice the roaring thunder in answer to the winds howling screams. Back and forth they fought, dancing around each other. - I loved this part, such beautiful writing.

Lucy leaned forward(#000040 ">,) her hands cupping her knobby knees as she watched what she had been waiting for.
I think the common makes it flow better.

The grey clouds were moved along slowly#000080 ">, to allow the sun to brighten the damage of the city.

I think this would flow better if you deleted the common.

Like I said, just a few really little things.

like the former, I originally though this was just a brilliant metaphor. Extremely creative and originalm you should be commended. It was also very believable. That sounded totally plausible, like it could totally be real. I loved how you created mother earth, that was a take I hadn't seen before and certainly didn't expect. Way to go for staying away from cliche!
Good luck or your contest.

This was amazing! I didn't catch any errors, your writing was amazing, and this was an awesome idea. I couldn't have come up with something this cool.

At first I thought you were using a ton of personfication and I thought it was pretty cool, but it wasn't until then end when I realized you were being literal. That is so cool! It totally took me by surprise and the way you turn something as simple as the whether and made it into a complete story involving so much personifation in a way was amazing.

I wish you luck and I have faith you'll do great in this contest! :)
