E - Everyone

All the Poetry I have ever written about my life.

Crush

Every week, the same routine.

You say hi and tell me your name,

I reply in kind and smile at you.

You always smile back at me.

And before anything else can be said,

I have to go, though you're still there.

Then the next week, I say a little more.

And whence we've finally gotten into a conversation,

I have to leave again.

When will I ever know more about you?

When will you know about me-

About the darkness inside me.

About what reality is, and what is science fiction.

If you knew, you might say that I'm lying,

But it's real, what I feel about you.

Patterns

All my poems are real,

Unless they're obviously not.

All my stories are fantasy,

Unless they're a research paper.

All my stories have animals,

People are animals too.

I try to interpret my life through what I write.

But there's more to it than that.

It's all I imagine,

My mind, my retreat.

But for now, I feel lost.

So no more fantasy right now,

Only poetry for me.

I Mourn In My Own Way, Live With It

Writing was my mind,

The place where I retreated.

Where the world made sense,

And you control it all.

But that may be no more,

writing holds no pleasure now.

I used to hide from the world with my writing,

But now, writing gets harder and harder as life goes on.

Life and death make a cycle,

Coming to realize that is one thing,

learning to cope with it is another.

A life has gone,

one quite close to me.

And now I am at a loss for words,

The pen no longer swirls across the page,

but stalls and stutters in a most ungainly manner.

She would be proud that I had made more poetry,

But I wish she was here to read it.

*In honor of someone who I could proudly call my surrogate grandmother. I only met her twice, but each time she was wonderful in a way that I cannot put to words.

I Honestly Don't Know...

Every time you look at me

I look away.

Every time I look at you,

Secretly hoping you'll look back.

I know you play the piano,

I know you love the birds,

But I have no idea what you know about me.

I'm a mystery,

A secret only shared with four people.

I don't know how you would react if you found out,

But I don't want to be sent to a lab.

I don't want people to know.

I don't want my head cut open

And my ears examined like insects

To find out

Why this talent belongs to a human

Whose sight is still intact.

Somehow,

I wish you knew.

I wish you had read what I could write.

Seen what I can do.

I just don't want to be sent

To a lab

and sliced up like a beetle.

They didn't understand,

And neither would you.

I know that much.

Story of My Life... More Like Story of Anger.

Please don't judge this too harshly, I wrote it during a rough patch in my life. Right after an event that injured my pride, and my point of view.

These hands were never meant to throw a punch

But to hold a writing brush.

My anger takes form

through brush strokes on paper.

Anger fills my veins,

with the need to destroy.

I may never throw a punch,

but on this fateful day,

I wished I could.

A Pathetic Poem

The world is spinning

And my mind with it.

My mind has gone

Eaten away by a secret so large,

It made the world quake when it was told.

The night devoured my mind

Like a tiny insect.

I never was perfect,

And I am even less so now.

My mind was my only admirable trait

And now it is gone.

In its place, I find a person

I never knew.

And never will.

My mind is gone,

Leaving only my heart.

Which lies in tatters

And threatens to rot.

I will never be the same again,

My transformation has already begun.

No one can stop it now.

I am no longer me

I am the essence

Of one Who is hanging on

To a nonexistent humanity

By a fraying rope.

The rope has broken

And I have not yet grown my wings to fly.

But this thing that is falling,

Is not a human.

But one who has been freed from humanities shackles.

An animal.

Consumed by the night

finally free.

The shackles that hold all humans

Are gone.

Just an instinct is left.

I am not tame

I am a bat.

Life and Death

A/N.  I know, this isn't poetry, I'm making an exception!

Death...

A vile fellow is he, visiting those both great and small, good and bad, we all come to the same end. He comes to visit, but is not a welcome guest, as I have learned today. He comes, and steals the part of our being that makes us alive, and never returns it. Many know what suffering death can cause, but it only causes the suffering of the living. The living must live on in mourning, and the dead are at peace. Our time will come, that is the only certain thing about life, that it ends.

But what if this were not to be? What if we lived on forever without injury or illness? What if everyone in the world was this way? We'd be in more misery than whence we had started. Living on, never resting, never knowing what might happen. Wars would go on causing much discomfort in families, strife would rule the land, and since none would die, more would be born but with no one to replace. There would be no certainty of what was to come, no respite from the issues that make up humanity.

But what if there was no life? If there was no life, there would be no death. No one would ever live, or die, none of our everyday issues would exist. But our universe would be a boring place, nothing to characterize it except rocks and volcanoes. But then again, no one would care because no one would exist.

I think we're better off the way we are, with life and death. Even though it hurts when death touches you or a friend, it's all for the better.

Thanks for looking through all that terrible stuff, feel free to review!  I need some major help with this stuff.

Ah! Two Team Rockets! I'll have to squeeze my way in here! Hi, I'm Sunshine, and I'm Team Plasma!

I totally agree with Iggy. If you broke up some of your poems into different published areas you'll get more quality reviews, as it makes reviewers want to go deeper. Looking at this is a totally massive and a bit daunting of a task.

First thing that isn't a review is the bottom note

Thanks for looking through all that terrible stuff
No! STOP THAT! Admitting you need help and calling perfectly good work terrible are two totally different things. Imagine if that was the first thing someone saw! That wouldn't motivate someone to help you, would it? Believe in your abilities, okay?

Since Iggy did the nitpicks for the poetry, I'll nitpick the last one before moving on to general themes.

Life and death

But what if there was no life? If there was no life, there would be no death. No one would ever live, or die, none of our everyday issues would exist. Separating this paragraph from everything else will hopefully allow you to notice how much you use 'But' throughout the whole short essay. Though grammatically, you're okay, the repetition gives it a childish feel for a serious topic. 'But' is seriously not necessary. You could really delete it every time you use it in the essay, including the paragraph before the one in quotations.

You ask a lot of rhetorical questions in this short essay, ones that have proven pretty unanswerable, and you ask them a lot. I really think you could lengthen the essay. Space out some of those crammed together questions. Give examples of things addressed n the question.

What if we lived on forever without injury or illness?

Give some examples of stuff, especially what has happened to you or ones you love. You could really make the issues your talking about seem closer to you and the reader with some personal addressing.

What if everyone in the world was this way?

I think this is implied.

Your life- In General

I know, sometimes, it's hard to talk about yourself, and even harder to write about you.

Don't over-dramatize for the sake of dramatics.

We know this poetry is about you, and you are a real human being. I know I'm guilty of adding dramatics for the heck of it, using language I don't really understand. ('Whence' in the first poem, maybe?) Use language you understand, that you are familiar with.

Titles! You got self-decapitating there near the end. If you struggle with names, let it sit for awhile, and then revisit it. Inspiration may strike.

Keep writing, and keep reviewing! I highly recommend getting up points so you feel comfortable posting poetry separately. (Posting before Review Days is also often free, and you get more reviews. Win-win!)

Well this is quite a lot of poems. Just as a note, I don't think you'll attract many reviewers by lumping all of these poems AND a short story together. It'd be just as easy for you to post them all separately.

I, uh, guess I'll break them down, one by one?

Crush

Every week, the same routine.

You say hi and tell me your name,

He tells her (I'm assuming the genders) his name every week? What, does she have a short memory? I'm pretty sure people don't do that in real life, unless it's in a work environment. Like seriously, every time my boss calls me, she introduces herself all over again <_< maybe it's just because we've barely started working together... but I digress.

Cut that out.

And whence we've finally gotten into a conversation,

Nope. Leave the Shakespearean talk to Shakespeare. Change to when*

When will I ever know more about you?

When will you know about me-

To keep a better consistent pattern, have both lines end with a comma. The random dash does nothing for the poem. Just looks like you're trying to fancy it up.

About the darkness inside me.

This is really cliche and I feel that you could have done something better with this. Spice it up, get original, exercise your creative licence.

About what reality is, and what is science fiction.

Two random things: reality and science fiction. I don't quite get how they relate to each other. Now, if you meant reality and fiction, that would make more sense, but the science part throws this out of whack here.

Patterns

All my poems are real,

Unless they're obviously not.

Not sure how I feel about the second line. How do you expect the reader to know if your poems are real or not? Seems like something only you would see, so I suggest you either revise those two lines or remove them entirely.

All my stories are fantasy,

All of them are fantasy? Now you don't have to be completely factual in a poem but I think that this might be a bit of an over-exaggeration ;) writing only one genre can get boring after a while.

I Mourn In My Own Way, Deal With It

Writing was my mind,

I don't like this line. I think this would have worked better if you simplified this and the next line to say: "Writing is my retreat[...]" because "writing was my mind" makes no sense.

but stalls and stutters in a most ungainly manner.

Would flow a lot better if you cut the indicated.

She would be proud that I had made more poetry,

Cut out the indicated. And instead of "made", go with "created".

I Honestly Don't Know...

Every time I look at you,

Secretly hoping you'll look back.

Choppy. A transition is needed between the two lines to make the flow flow.

I wish you had read what I could write.

Instead of "could write", go with "wrote".

Story of My Life... More Like Story of Anger.

Nothing to nitpick. I liked this. It's your best yet.

A Pathetic Poem

And my mind with it.

My mind has gone

The repetition of mind isn't needed. You can refer to it as "it".

Of one Who is hanging on

Lowercase the w.

By a fraying rope.

The rope has broken

The repetition of rope isn't needed. You can refer to it as "it".

But one who has been freed from humanities shackles.

Humanity's shackles* you mean?

Okay, so for all of your poems, you have a lot of punctuation problems. All of your lines either end with a comma or a period. Treat punctuation in a poem like salt on your vegetables. Some like a little, some like a lot. But everyone will, at one point, declare that there is just TOO MUCH salt on their green beans. You piled the salt on sky-high. I highly suggest you go back and edit out a lot of those commas because they
a) messed up your flow
b) broke up sentences that wouldn't have been broken up during a story
c) made things sound awkward when spoken aloud
and
d) there was just TOO MANY of them.

That's my biggest nitpick. Everything else seemed good.

Hope this helped.

Hello! KatyaElefant here for another review! Happy Review Day! Let's see what we got here!

I think that you should label this under poetry. (I know. I know. The last one makes it all messed up but believe me it should be under that title). As for the poetry, you should make them more organized by placing them into stanzas. What I advise is that you should post these separately so that it is shorter and more people will want to read it because they think that they have time for it! That's all I have to say for the things that you could correct.

Now for the great things. I love the poems and their originality. The last part of this has great imagery and I love it! This isn't bad at all! Actually, it's great! You should write some more of this! Actually, all of this has great imagery! I don't even know, why you doubt yourself. You should totally write more poetry! Your grammar is great! (at least for poetry). Your spelling is great! You could work on your organization skills. You might want to work on the titles. I feel like some people on this site need to have more self-esteem and some should cool of their self-esteem. We need someone to have a balance. XD Might as well be you! Great job! Keep writing stuff like this! I loved reading through it! Have a nice review day! Keep calm. Keep writing.
