The moon is in the sky. I don't remember how I ended up in these woods. As I strain my eyes to look for him, the pendant of my chain falls with a c-l-i-i-i-i-n-c-k. I have no idea what the letters ‘lj’inscribed in the circle stand for. My name is Adeline Austen. No L. No J. I put it in my pocket. My adoptive Mum says that I had it even before I was adopted. She says that my real parents sent me into her care “to protect me.”
Amidst the trees and bushes, I perceive him, lying unconscious on the ground. But my myopic vision does not help much. Neither does the sun, which refuses to rise. I need my glasses. As soon as I see him, my memories resurface. It is hard to believe that today morning I was swooping towards the Snitch, eager to catch it before Harry. One hand was tightly gripping the broom while the other was outstretched to catch the flying, golden ball. Harry was close behind me but I had already lunged for the Snitch. He was a second too late. I flashed a triumphant smile. The real Inter-School Quidditch match was next week. The Beauxbaton’s Quidditch coach has indeed taught me neat tricks.“I have tough competition”, he complimented.
Following the practice match, Harry showed me around Hogsmeade, a village near Hogwarts. I tasted butterbeer at Three Broomsticks. We spent the rest of the day exploring every nook and cranny of Hogsmeade. Shrieking Shack, Gladrags Wizardwear, Zonko’s Joke Shop and other interesting shops. Honeydukes Sweetshop reminded me of a shop called Sucré in France. I had never thought a day out with my competitor could be so enjoyable.
While we were returning to Hogwarts, he insisted to walk through the Forbidden Forest and assured that it was “as safe as houses”. Apparently it wasn’t. A herd of feral centaurs armed with bows and arrows sprang out from all thirty-two points on a compass. Just a moment before, I had seen them trying to start a fire. They appeared to be in the middle of a centaur-only ritual. Now, they seemed to be descending on us from all directions. Harry tried the Stupefying Charm on one of the creatures. However, it was miscalculated. A flash of green light, which was supposed to hit a savage looking centaur, hit me right in the face. Then I blacked out.
I run towards him and check his pulse. A pure gold ring on his index finger draws my attention. I gasp. It is a circle circumscribing the letters ‘lj’. “My Dad’s”, he murmurs. When I show him my pendant, shock and surprise adorn every sinew of his face.As if out of nowhere, a sphere of golden light encloses us. The golden sphere lifts us into the air. Harry, traumatic as ever and I, bewildered as ever, look at each other for some kind of explanation. A silvery-grey mist is perceivable inside the sphere. Only, it is not just mist. The mist assumes a denser form. My eyes open wide in puzzle. The haze becomes denser and denser until I can distinguish two faces quite clearly. A man who strikingly resembles Harry, wearing Harry’s ring is followed by a green-eyed woman who resembles………………me!!! Her slender neck is embellished with a chain that has my pendant. Lily and James Potter. LJ. And then it dawns on me. I am Adeline Potter.
At last, I've found my family. I throw myself into my brother’s arms and let tears roll down my cheeks.

Hi Roma here,

First off I have to start off by saying I love harry potter and anything to do with it, like a lot of others that posted here ha-ha.
So with that being said, this piece was quite interesting to read, I would have never imagined giving harry a sister so that was amazing on your part. I do like the way the story opened up, though I personally feel that there could have been a little more detail added to it. After the match is where you start to lose me just a little bit. I feel like everything just moved so fast and it just through me for a loop. Its like one second they're there, then there and boom unconscious in the forbidden forest. So my advice would be to slow things down and add a little more details to certain places like the match and walking around hogsmeade. Then speed it up a little leading to the action and then punch it home. So overall I do like your fanfic and really loved the concept. With a little tune up it would be great, so keep at it.
Roma signing off.
OMG!!! I'm a big fan of Harry Potter so naturally anything related is bound to interest me. I specially like the way your story mentions Beauxbatons, Gladrags Wizardwear, Zonko’s Joke Shop and other shops at Hogsmeade without straying too much from the main plot, now I know that can be hard but you managed pretty well
. It was a great idea to mention Quidditch as it is central to Harry's life and a story delving deeper into his family life must have a mention of it. Though the writing could have been better, the plot rocks! I loved every bit of this and hope to read more of your stuff!
Okay, hey! I am wisegirl22, here to review your fanfiction! I have read a bit of Harry Potter, so I at least know what you are talking about.
So, Katyayani, first of all, the beginning paragraph is a bit mixed up. Shouldn't the introduction of the name be mentioned at the start? It seems as if it got moved, because when I read it the piece seemed broken up, into one subject than another. Just one thing to think about, maybe you can create some smooth transitions in the first paragraph. Second thing, a lot of your punctuation for your dialogue is outside of your quotation marks. Put it in. Third, everything in this short chapter seems to be moving so fast. I need more details, more description. And, when the family reunites, there is some problems. When you use the ellipsis, there are WAY too many. A simple three would do. And right after the ellipsis, the three punctuation marks. Using more than one punctuation mark is grammatically incorrect, so fix that. The family reunion is very sweet. I like it!
I think this could turn into a nice novel instead. I really enjoyed reading this, and reviewing your chapters would be amazing. If you do take my suggestion, tag me so I can review it. But keep writing!

Hello! Happy Review Day!
I am a fan of FanFiction. And I adore Harry Potter. So when I saw this, I had to read it and review.
I don't like the first line 'The moon is in the sky.', cause, um, where else would it be? You could rephrase it. 'The moon was shining brightly against the dark skies.'. Something like that. And also, the 'c-l-i-i-i-i-n-c-k', I don't like it. If you italicize, that would be better. When you wrote about the inscriptions, I had no idea you were writing about that. Make it more clear. Write, 'I have no idea what the letter 'LJ' inscribed in the pendant stand for. My name is Adeline Austen, there are no L's or J's in my name..
I'm very interested in what is happening here. Like is she in the Forbidden Forest, maybe? Why is she there? It's got me thinking.
I had to look up the word 'myopic' to know what that meant. It's great to use strong words like this one... but you should use words people understand as well. I do like how you wrote these sentences. It's smart. I perceive him instead of I saw him, that's so good.
You just said that the moon was up, why would the sun come up so soon after that? Instead of writing It is hard to believe that today morning, write, It is hard to believe that this morning. I enjoyed reading about Quidditch. You wrote that very well, intense.
We all know that the Forbidden Forest is not safe at all. Harry knows this the best. Why would he say it's as safe as houses? The attack sounds brutal though, well written. Centars aren't ones to attack unless you attack them. So that's not right. How did his Charm hit the Main Character?
Again with the LJ.
Separate the dialogue from the paragraph. I like how you wrote 'shock and surprise adorn every sinew of his face'. So nice.
A golden light?! WHOA. This wasn't even in the books. It sounds pretty cool though. When you wrote 'Harry, traumatic as ever and I, bewildered as ever. you shouldn't have wrote 'as ever' for both. It's repetition. And after the first 'as ever', put a comma.
Instead of in puzzle, use, in question. After Harry's ring place a comma. You don't need that many periods before me!!! and calm down with the exclamation points. Italisice Adeline Potter. I like the realization. It's so surprising you added a sister to the story and not a love interest! I love that!
How cute. I'm so happy for Adeline!
All in all, it was a great story. The whole sister thing, wow. It's great. And that they went to the Forest. I like that. Just a few edits here and there won't hurt. You sometimes missed placing a space after periods.
I enjoyed reading your fan fic, really!!
Hi there!

I'm here to review your fantastic work!
Well let me say this, fanfcition? I don't mind it one bit. I know a lot of people don't like it, and it's not a genre that people usually venture into. So, i'm gonna have to congratulate you for thinking of writing something along those lines.
And, its Harry Potter. So, maybe I'm a little biased
Okay, onto the review.
I swear, I did not expect what I read when I opened this up. Honestly, I thought it was going to be some cheesy thing with Hermione instead of Ginny or something. Isn't that how they write it nowadays? Or maybe I'm a little behind.
I have to give you props for originality because who would have ever thought of this? Really good! I appreciate the effort you've taken into writing this.
However, I really do wish you'd proof-read this before you posted it because I feel so many little errors could have been avoided.
Noelle has already ripped the story to bits and I honestly don't know how i can top that so I'll just say what I wanted to.
I felt the story was a little rushed and for a moment, I didn't really understand what was going on. I feel you could have written more and done it very elaborately. It just feels like you had a bunch of thoughts and you wanted to write it down before you forgot.
Also, it's a little too short. I loved the ending. I thought it was great. But I would have loved it even more if the story was a little longer.
Well, that's all I can say in this review.
I have to say, you did a pretty good job!
Keep writing!
Hi there!
I'm not really a big fan of fanfiction, I'll be honest. The only kind I really like is Hunger Games fanfiction because that's usually people telling stories of different Games without using Suzanne's characters.
But I'm definitely glad I read this one. I'm a huge fan of Harry Potter (let's face it, who isn't? ^_^) so anything related is awesome. (unless it's a story that ships Draco and the apple. That's just weird) And I have to say, you did a good job with this story. It's rather short, but you were able to fit everything you needed into that amount of words.
I know Tigga already pointed out your first paragraph, but I want to add to what he said. The reason he doesn't understand it is because it's a bit all over the place. If we go through it line by line you'll see what I mean.
Not exactly the bam, wow first line, but that's okay. Not every story needs one. The moon is obviously the first thing Adeline (LOVE that name by the way) sees and wants to tell us about. It's important to her so it's in there. Plus we now know part of the setting: late night. That's probably going to be important as we read on.
So even here in the second sentence, there seems to be something different. First we're looking at the moon and then we're in the woods. It would be cool to see something about the woods in the first sentence. Maybe you could say instead "I can see the moon through the branches poking out from the tall trees in these woods. I don't remember how I got here." Do you see how that ties the two sentences together more? You don't have to use that of course, it's just an example.
Next line:
Obviously this 'him' is someone we're not supposed to know about. I can respect that. I do that a lot in my writing, hide things from the readers until they absolutely need to know. What I'm not all too keen about in this sentence is the 'clink' at the end. Sometimes less is more in writing. There are so many other ways that you can describe that sound! Get creative
I went through and picked out the rest of the first paragraph because it all fits together nicely. Here we get to see more about the main character. We now know her name, what the pendant is for and what she's hoping to find. Well, that part is just an assumption at this point. She doesn't say that she's looking to find out who her real family is, but it's pretty much implied. I especially like this part: "My name is Adeline Austin. No L. No J." It's such a simple sentence, yet so powerful. The pendant makes absolutely no sense to her, yet she hasn't given up on it. She wants to know what it means.
So overall, this first paragraph could be reworked. Take a moment to really focus on everything happening here. Tell us more about the moon, then go into the woods, then talk about the pendant. As a matter of fact, you could even start a new paragraph to talk about the pendant. It might actually work out well like that. Setting in the first paragraph, pendant in the second. Play around with it, see what you think works best.
I think you had a case of 'typing to fast syndrome' here
So, this sentence works. But is it the best? No. Why? Because you've all of the sudden switched from the moon to the sun. Why not stay with the moon? Especially since it's night time. Keep the moon the main focus and then compare it to the sun. For example, maybe have Adeline complain about how the moon doesn't give off enough light and the path in front of her is still dark. Then she can wish that the sun would rise already. Make sense? The sun and moon are both very different yet very similar. My suggestion is stick with one of them to use as description in your case here. If it's night, stick with the moon. If it's day, stick with the sun.
This is just a quick nitpick. When you're writing about something that had already happened in the past, you have to use the past tense. Now, you do do that with saying 'complimented', but you need a 'had' in front of that. I'm sure there's a name for that grammar rule, but I have no idea what it is. I don't even know why I comment on grammar in the first place. The English language and grammar rules confuse me. And English is my first language xD
Yesssss! I love this! Wanna know why? It really focuses on Adeline and her character. She's at Beauxbatons in France. Of course there are going to be differences between her school and Hogwarts. It's cool to see that difference here, even if it's something small.
One last quick thing about what I just quoted. Sucré, with the accent, means 'sweetened' in French (I'm 99.2% sure. Still a chance I could be getting the translation wrong xD). Sucre, without the accent, means 'sugar'. I'm not sure if it's a big thing what the store name means, but I figured I'd mention it
The ending is very sweet. Of course, I had guessed from the beginning that the L and J stood for Lilly and James because, you know, I'm just smart like that
I do have a few small things to mention here though, now that I've read through the entire story.
First off, this is the first match Harry has ever lost. Or at least, where he has never caught the snitch. Don't you think he'd be a bit upset or feel defeated? I don't know, I just imagined him not being in exactly the greatest mood. Even when the dementors knocked him out in his third year he was upset he hadn't caught the snitch. Quidditch is a big part of his life and I feel like he'd be sort of devastated after not catching the snitch. Just my two cents.
Secondly, the second to last paragraph seems to come out of nowhere. Harry castes a spell that knocks out Adeline, but then she's checking Harry's pulse. How did she come to consciousness again so quickly? It's a bit confusing.
Overall, I think this is a good story. Sure there are a few places where it could be polished up a bit, but where isn't there something like that in any story, really? The idea is great and might've even made me cry a little >.>
I said a little okay? And I definitely think there's even more potential for the story to continue from here! I'm not sure if you're dead set about it being a one shot or not, but there's definitely more to the story that I see here. Now Adeline has a family! Or at least, a brother. I wonder how she would fit into the Harry Potter story.I really did enjoy reading this. Keep up the awesome storytelling!
Keep writing!

Hey there! I'm Tigga, let's do this review.
For starters:
I don't quite understand this paragraph because it makes no sense, to me atleast. Maybe clearing it out and making it smoother to follow would improve it a lot!
Secondly:
I believe you need to explain what Myopic Vision is for it to make sense.
Thirdly:
Where did this even come from, it doesn't continue you from the other paragraph it just skips a head so much and makes no sense. You need to fix that. Like now. Anyways. The plot idea was interesting and I believe you could make it work with a lot of work on this story.
