Bullying research paper

Bullying

Imagine a world where no one feels safe, where people are afraid of going outside, or even online to their favorite chat rooms, in fear of being ridiculed by other people, both physically and mentally. You don’t have to try very hard to imagine this, because right now seventy three percent of kids are bullied every day(G).

I have been a victim of bullying, but not as severely as most. Severe bullying, in my definition, is when the victim kills themselves, or suicide. Eighty percent of kids that have committed suicide have been bullied , twenty percent of those were cyberbullied (G). In fact, one of the worst outcome of bullying in history is when two seniors in high school killed fourteen students and one teacher, twenty three more students were injured (H).

I’m writing this report to raise the question of which gender bullies more effectively. Most people believe that boys are the lead examples of bullying, but that is where they are wrong, bullying isn’t just defined by just physical bullying, but can also take place in the social society. I personally believe that when girls bully, or emotional bullying, is the most harming type of bullying. So, this particular research paper works like this, the pro side is for people who believe that boys bully more aggressively than girls do and the con side is for people who, like me, believe that girls bully more aggressively than boys do.

Pro: To help set the mood of the bullying that I’m about to describe, imagine that you’re walking down a hallway, minding your own business, when suddenly, someone steps out and trips you on purpose; and instead of helping you up, like a good person should, they start to laugh as you fall on your face, papers flying everywhere, while you scramble for your dropped folders. You have just experienced one of the boy's main, and favorite, tactic of bullying. Unlike girls, boys bully to prove their masculinity, or in other words, to gain status from the fight (I and F). You know that you’ve done nothing to the bully, but that doesn’t matter in their eyes, now does it? Boys tend to be more quick to bully and much more physically aggressive and impulsive than girls are (F). Boy versions of bullying more accurately fits the description of bullying than it does for girls, basically bullying face to face. Boys also often bully more than girls do, in fact, forty one percent of kids are bullied by boys (G). Believe it or not, boy bullying actually ends more quickly than girl bullying does, probably because the bullies are more open about bullying and more prone to get caught. Boy bullying is the most harmful type of bullying because it hurts the victim a lot more than girl bullying does. This type of bullying hurts the victim, like bruises hurts, and lets them walk home with cuts and possibly a broken nose or a bloody lip to follow them, adding on to the collection of lost hopes and dreams the next day, and the bully doesn’t exactly lead a perfect life later on, “Sixty percent of male bullies will most likely be convicted of at least one crime by the time they reach twenty four.”(C)

Con: Have you ever heard of the saying “Sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt me?” Well, this philosophy strays far, far from the truth, in fact, one of the most harmful types of bullying is name calling. Girl type of bullying is the most harmful mostly because it’s classified by adults as “cruel but normal social interactions,” making it extremely hard for the victim of emotional bullying to find help (E). Girl bullies use exactly the opposite tactics than boys do, they prefer a more secretive type of bullying, moving behind the scenes to inflict pain and such. Some tactics used by girl bullies is social isolation, rumors, teasing, and insults (I). While boys prefer physical bullying, girls prefer bullying using “emotional violence” to lower the victim's self confidence and uses their inability to fit in as a chance to isolate them.(E and J). Girls are cruel and tricky, proof of this is that girls often use another student's name while cyberbullying to make it more complicated to find the real culprit. However, in reality, they’re just cowards, they get other people to do the dirty work for them and then just sit back; telling orders. Another awful example of emotional bullying is when one victim, just another piece of prey in their eyes, attempted suicide by jumping in front of a bus, and while in recovery, was called names on Facebook (G). While people believe that boy bullying is more severe than girl bullying, that's what the girl bullies want to hear, they want people to believe that the victim isn’t being harmed at all; but they are. While parents are coming up with excuses for their child's recent behavior, their child needs help and by the time the parents admit it, it's probably already too late for the victim, the child. In the end, as the result of countless attacks, the result is most likely death.

I, myself, doesn’t go with either the pro or the con, I’m a person of the in between. I have experienced both types of bullying, one is still going on, and through my experience I have realized that when both boys and girls work together to torment a victim that that’s the deadliest type of bullying. They combine forces, girls spreading rumors and taking away all of the target's friends while the boy hurts the target in any way they can. My own friend turned against me and gave away some information that should have been left undiscovered. Some of them were lies, some of them weren’t, but the most effective lie she told was that dermatalgia was contagious. This one lie separated me from everyone I knew, no one left to protect me. Then it was the boys turn to join in. He called me names, such as “zombie flesh” and would mime me, horribly exaggerated, biting my fingers. Almost every day he would trip me up in the halls, and hurl insults at me, offering no mercy. All the while this was happening, no one felt sorry or wanted to help, probably afraid to catch my “disease”, actually a disorder. What I still don’t understand is why they targeted me, I had tried my best to welcome the boy to his new school and even offered to be friends with him. Most of the time, bullying is unpredictable and unexpected. Many people believe that bullying physically is more dangerous than bullying mentally, but in reality, these two techniques for torture are both extremely effective, especially when combined. So the moral of this section is to never underestimate a good teamwork pact, and my message for victims of bullying around the world is to keep fighting.

Childhood bullying can affect people as they grow up and well into adulthood as well. In some cases it causes anxiety and depression. Some studies have indicated that bullying affects the brain’s physical structure too. It leads to higher stress levels, may have trust issues and fewer friends during adulthood. However, the good news is that some of the effects of childhood bullying can be reversed with the correct therapy.

Hello! Aulyasela3597 here :) not much a review here...

Most of us see bullying as a normal part of life. But if not prevented, it can take harmful form with time for not only victim but for bully also.

A person is bullied over because of his unique trait like being too tall or too short, skin color , disability, bad temper etc. Some people don't accept being bullied but some are not brave enough to rebel against it.

Those who does not rebel may suffer depression & anxiety. When they fail to understand why bully is targeting them, the victim starts to blame themselves.

As a result, they try to change that unique characteristic to prevent bullying.
It starts to affect their behavior, which ultimately affects both physical & mental status.

Kids who are bullied, may also loose interest in school and education. When things get to the extreme conditions, the person being bullied can also commit suicide. This act of suicide among victims has become so common that it has got a unique word in dictionary and called as bullycide.

Warm regards,

Bullying essay for school I'm assuming? I had to do one of those before lol, Now onto the review.
I'm assuming the (G) and the (H) and so on for sources? Synthesis Essay?
Well your Grammar is alright, but you just need to tighten it because there are small places like here, "In fact, one of the worst outcome of bullying in history is when two seniors in high school-" (should be, in history was when). These can easily be fixed, but also your word use in that line, saying in history is a big step. It's good to have opinions, but that one is a little strong and won't help you get any points.
Alright, splitting things into pros and cons is good while brain storming, but in your actual essay no. You shouldn't write pro or con in the beginning like that or explain how your essay is structured. You should also take one side of the argument. If this is persuasive your not supposed to say both sides of the story, if argumentative you need to weave it into the essay.
When you make your claim also it should be clear and in the introductory paragraph. Here is how an essay works. Thesis plus reasoning/examples. Then onto your body paragraphs that both connect to the thesis and supports it (can be up to 2 or more depending on it) and then you can also of course argue the opposite side in the second to last paragraph by saying that boys do bully physically, and give examples for that side but then in the end of it say something like it can't compare to females bullying because of... [this reason]. And then go onto your conclusion and wrap up any loose ends.
While this is a very different essay then what I am used to, if you just move around your reasoning and structure of the essay it will be very strong and also one last thing, make sure not to say I in your essay. It is okay to use personal examples, but do not say I. It will weaken your argument.

Thank you for the review!!!! I really needed some help with this...

It actually did say that that massacre was one of the worst cases, said it in the book...

sorry then, that works, :)

I like your profile pic, btw...

thanks, yours is cool to

Hello, Kai.

First, the first paragraph or introduction sounds good. But I would like you to add an information on how many people ( percentage) are being bullied mentally and physically respectively. In the second paragraph-

Severe bullying, in my definition, is when the victim kills themselves, or suicide.

Grammar mistake. It will be-
Severe....when the victims kill themselves.

Also, I think, it sounds better if you say "in my opinion" instead of "in my definition". And "suicide" already means to kill themselves. You don't have to write it again. In stead, you can say "hurt themselves" or something like this.
Eighty percent of kids that have committed suicide have been bullied , twenty percent of those were cyberbullied

I think this should be-
Eighty percent of kids who have committed suicide was bullied, twenty percent of those was cyberbullied

Still, I am not hundrad percent sure about the tense. You should ask your teacher.

In fact, one of the worst outcome of bullying in history is when ...

Here, I think, you should try to change the line a bit- the part "one of the worst outcome". It's ok, if you don't change. It's just my opinion.

I’m writing this report to raise the question of which gender bullies more effectively

This line is sudden and I think quite unexpected to the readers. You should write this line after telling that the idea is wrong that mostly boys do bullyings. You may also add that , irrespective of gender, everyone is bullying and being bullyed.
bullying isn’t just defined by just physical bullying, but can also take place in the social society.

I don't think, you have to write this. You have already mentioned both physical and mental bullying in the first paragraph. And the thing with "social bullying", well, i think it just means mental or emotional bullying. So, I don't think you have to mention this either.
So, this particular research paper works like this,..

I think, it's better to say it like this-
This reaserch paper works like a con...

And I think, it's alos better if you don't write "Con" and "Pro" . Before starting the Con part, write-
The con part of my reasearch paper....

The same is for the Pro part. But don't start the two parts with the same words and make the both parts strt with a sentence.
To help set the mood of the bullying that I’m about to describe,

I think, it's better not to write it. Just start with "Imagine..."
In the "Pro" part, you have said "Boy bullying". That was repetitive. You could have used "boy bully" like this in some sentences. So that it doesn't feel repetitive.
Believe it or not, boy bullying actually ends more quickly than girl bullying does,

I think, it doesn't sound so good. It's actually a bit confusing for me. Like- do you mean, that boys take less time to bully than girls do? If this is the thing, why don't you just write it directly? Then it makes better sense. ( This line that i just wrote itself isn't good to read)
This type of bullying hurts the victim, like bruises hurts

I think, you should change the part "like bruises and hurts". You can just write it directly-
This type of bullying does physical harm to the victim..

It's simple and expresses the thing well.
and the bully doesn’t exactly lead a perfect life later on

It's a good thing to add. But I think you shouldn't directly tell this right after describing the victim. You can write something like this-
And it's not only the victim who suffers. The bully himself has to pay a lot. He doesn't exactly lead a ...

And the last para was awesome.

Good message. I think, the last part of your work is the most effective one. Really well done. I think, you have to more careful with tense and grammar and punctuation. Re-read the whole thing and try to find where things can be made better and where you are making mistakes.

Last but not the least, sorry for what has happened to you. But BEST DONE for still fighting on. And keep on doing it . Cus to tell the truth, there's not really anything else you can do.

This is definitely the longest review that i have ever done. You should give me a gift.

-_-... Not enough thingys...

This was excellently written! I love the pro and con way you presented the two forms of bullying. Also I'm so sorry you had to go through that! No one should ever be treated like that!

Anyways, on with the review. Is this story formal or informal? I only ask because if it was formal, then you should take out all contractions, and try to avoid using "I" or "You". But if its informal, then its perfect!

Also, what are the letter you put in parentheses at the end of certain sentences? I'm not familiar with their purpose.

I really can't say much else besides, this is an excellent essay, I wish I was that good at writing essays!

The parentheses are for resource cards that I used from websites.
