Powerful love

PreviousNext

Before we met , my vision of the world was so dark and scary like I was colorblind, you give me the powers to see the beauty in everything. It's like I finally get to see flowers grow after a drought. You believed me and loved me even when I didn't love myself and that's all I can ever ask for. - j.destiny

This poem is very short and to the point but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's well-written but overall I believe it could be improved with more creative word choices, like instead of just using words like "dark and scary" try using broader and more powerful words. For example maybe try in place of 'dark' you could use words like 'jet-black, 'grim', 'nightmarish', or 'melancholy'. I don't know it's just a suggestion but I think this way you could paint a more vivid picture and evoke much stronger emotions. You do have talent but I would really like to see you improve and better as a writer and learn to express your emotions in a more creative or compelling way. I'm sorry if I come across as harsh as I am only trying to help but then again I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

Overall this is a good poem and as I said I would like to see you expand upon your natural writing talents and take your poetic prowess to new heights and maybe try writing about different things other than love as that is unfortunately a very cliched subject matter. Please keep writing :)

Hey, Dogs here for a review! Also... WELCOME TO YWS (young writers society) I will tell you more about our fun and amazing community at the end of my review. I'm dogsrule5 and always happy to help new people. (By the way you can call me Dogs.)

I just want to say right off the bat, that I love your poem. It's very powerful and meaningful to me.

So to start of my review I will point out little nitpicks and mistakes (please don't take these personally I'm only trying to help. I hope I do.)

1)

Before we met , my vision of the world...

In this first line you put a space before the comma. That space should be there. It should look like this...

"Before we met, my vision of the world..."

2) In the same line as I used for my first mistake I may not be correct, if I'm not please tell me, but I don't think your really need a comma after "met" and before "my".

3)
My vision of the world was so dark and scary like I was colorblind, you give me the powers to see the beauty in everything.

Instead of putting a comma after "colorblind" you should put a period. To me, I think you need more of a pause.

That's all I pointed out for you... Now on to the good part of my review!

Beside the few grammar errors that you had, everything seemed fine.
I really liked this poem. It was a beautiful piece of art, and It think for possibly your first poem it was really good.

Now we will get on to stuff that shouldn't be in the review...

Hey Julissadestiny,
First of all I want to welcome you to YWS.

Now that the greetings are covered, why dont we talk about your poem. The idea behind this is kind of cliche, you know the whole love poetry thing. But dont worry, I've recently wrote a love poem myself I've been thinking about posting... but that's beyond the point. You dont want to hear about my work, you want to know about yours and how you can improve, so that is what im going to do....

1) The style formatting is a little weird, but since you're new here I'm not going to talk about it that much since you havent had a lot of time to play around with the site and learn how things work.

2)

Before we met ,you would want to start a new line here. Also to start of this poem, I think that this is an okay beginning my vision of the world was so dark and scary kind of like I was colorblind, I don't necessarily like this line. For one the words 'dark' and 'scary' are a little to immature and childish. Remember you want to write with more mature words then something you'd just message to your family. you give me the powers to see the beauty in everything. again, i dont really like this line. Your idea is here yet, it needs more. There is a lack of depth to this poem. It's like I finally get to see flowers grow after a drought. If you start a metaphor, then dont just end it here. You got to expand more into your piece, let your true emotions show threw. Give your reader something to grasp and hold onto. You believed me and loved me even when I didn't love myself and that's all I can ever ask for
---Ok so the poem itself is a little mundane. It does need work so it can become the best it can be. You want to expand and give your readers one of the best poems they read.

Anyways that is all, and i hope my review helped, it's been so long since i last wrote one. If you have any questions about the review or what i've said feel free to ask. Good luck an continue writing ---Myjaspercat
