It's so unfair, but you don't care
You don't feel harm
from the scars you leave on my heart.
You don't know how late I stay up at night,
dreaming about your face, and hoping you might
feel the same; but I know that's insane, you think I'm lame.
Why do I feel this way?
I think I love you.
I think I love you, but I can't.
I wish I didn't but I'm stuck.
I can't help it that I'm lovestruck,
but how oblivious you are leaves me dumbstruck.
The sighs of longing, the little things
How do you not notice that you make my heart sing?
Oh yeah. You're straight.
You can't think that way....
I think I love you, but I can't.
Because you'll never see me like that...

OK, I like where you go with this. I know when people think poetry they think rhyming but when you are writing sometimes it is more important to focus on how it feels than how it sounds if that makes sense. When I read through it I realize that you are trying to portray a personal struggle but when I read through it I don't feel that struggle going on. You are bouncing all over the place with feelings you are trying to portray but you never give description to back it up and give it that extra oomph. If you added this description it would reach the reader better and better portray the feelings that you are trying to. For example, when you say, "It's so unfair, but you don't care; You don't feel harm; from the scars you leave on my heart." I get that it hurts that the other person doesn't care but with your writing I can't feel the pain that I presume you are trying to portray. If you were to add things like, "It's so unfair, but it doesn't matter to you; You don't feel pain; from the scars that you've etched on my heart." I think if you were to add detail like this or just change the vocabulary to be stronger it would be a much more moving piece. Don't use what I put, it was only an example. This is the only thing that I could see needing edits. I liked the poem and think with a few small changes it would get that feeling that you are trying to portray. I look forward to reading your other works, definitely keep writing.
I don't know what to say.. I'm speechless.. In a good way!! I really feel the pain and longing for this person to love you back. Even though you know it isn't possible, you still love this person, we can all relate to that, and I think that really helps make this poem even better.. Keep up the good work!!
I think this is a pretty good poem, syllable count is pretty good, and it makes fair points, but like the previous reviewers I strongly suggest showing the readers, not telling them. Plus, some of the rhyming (I refer to the first three-four lines as an example), is a little off and sporadic.
You would also benefit from a stanza format, but that's strictly a opinionated suggestion.
Remember, don't talk about it, show it.
Still, good poem, good job.
You should check out my poem, tell me what you think!
Thank you for reading! I appreciate the review!
....Also, I really like your poem!
Hello!
One element that I could sense was the pathos behind this. Like the previous review, I believe there is a potential for even more, with just a bit more spit and polish.
I'm from the school of 'show, not tell', so I'll ask questions that hopefully explain what I mean.
Feel the same what? What is this thing that is being felt? I mean, describe this passion, this feeling. There is that visceral, physical reaction you have when you are even in the same room as someone you love. Show us how the protagonist feels.
What does it mean to be lovestruck? What does it mean to be dumbstruck? For example, I'm dumbstruck; I can't speak because my mouth has suddenly gotten dry, my tongue is a mess of knots, and my brain can only register that your perfume/cologne is the most wonderful scent in the world...
This, this wins this entire poem for me. I think this is what ties everything else.
Vocabulary: Use words to describe these feelings; paint the lines with the protagonists longing and conflict.
Please understand that I'm not bashing or undermining what you have here. I feel that it is good, and only hope you can make it better.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for reading! Your review is very much appreciated! I'll try to keep this advice in mind for the future!
It is very good for a first, might I say. You can grow into an even better poet, I can definitely see a lot of potential. My advice is to keep writing, keep adding more, keep doing what you're doing because you're already great. Maybe widen your vocabulary, even though you have a good one. Even more words might help though!
I love it. <3
