I tried working with a very different color palette from what I'm used to.

Sorry I can't offer any critique, but I don't see any flaws! Great work 
So let's just get one thing straight--I'm not an art reviewer. But I don't think one needs to be an art reviewer to appreciate art! And these paintings are very worthy of appreciation, my friend. I absolutely LOVED your Fairy Lamp. So cute, I just want to go there and watch it. I can imagine the little lights inside flickering! The first one was my second favorite. You seem to have a way of making one feel very big emotions with such a simple picture. Lovely, just lovely

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the fairy lamp, that one took me a while to do. I know what you mean about watching it. If I ever found one I'd watch it like a creeper. That's probably why none of those things exist.

These are beautiful, Jenthura!
I really like the first one. It is bordering on abstract but has so much more emotion than any "real thing" could. There is something nostalgic about it. I also love the dimensions of it. :]
The second one is very nice as well. Both my parents are architects and it reminds me a goodly bit of architectural watercolors -- the subject is crisp, but where you can (the background) you take liberties. As for the design of she ship itself, it reminds me of a Miyazaki creation which is always a good thing.
The third one may be my favorite of them all. It really epitomizes what is so lovely about all of these paintings: a playfulness and lightheartedness, like I can hear you chuckling as you paint it. But there is also a quiet magic to it. An understated, beautiful kind of magic.
The fourth one is nice, but I'm not sure there's really much I can say about it. It is simple, kind of like a sketch or a study. I really like the way you captured the light, and the shape of the tree is quite simply pleasing to look at.
The fifth one is beautiful! I'm not sure if it's your scanner or if it's the paints, but I'd really love to see some more differentiation between highlight and shadow because it all feels rather monotonous right now. But the shapes of the corals are lovely, and I like the receeding fish/shark.
The last one... well, I can't really say anything positive or negative about it. It's not as sophisticated as the others. I think I like your more impressionistic stuff much better.
All in all, I really like your free-form ones! I love it when I see watercolors that are brushy and you can really see the artist playing with the medium. I also really like it when you let the brushes end the frame how they will, rather than imposing a rigid outline on your paintings. Nice work, Jenthura! I would say nice to see you around again, but seeing as this is my first time on in a few weeks I'm not sure I'm entitled to say that. :]

I'm very happy you compared me to Miyazaki. I absolutely love his manga style, something I've always tried to emulate.
