Dark Thoughts.
It's usual to feel like this I guess, one minute i'm the happiest person you know and the next...well i'm pretty much in the shit! It's a weird feeling i get when i feel so low, i just slip away into a different place, a different life really. Yeah, being 17 years old, living on your own and having the worst paid job ever is kind of ruff but surely some things have to perk up right? That's what everybody says..things get better! Blah Blah Blah! Yeah well things might get better in their story books and fantasy worlds but mine is different..My story is one to 'DIE' for.
I'm Flo Casper, i'm a typical 17 year old girl except without the love for 'Fashion' i focus more on the dark side type of clothing from Gothica shops or spiritual shops. I have black curly hair and a very pale complexion. I live in a small forest town deep in the hills of Scotland and we don't connect with the 'outside world' much. It's typical really as i have no friends here, i never have, I've never wanted to connect with anyone they just don't understand me. I'm just different. I prefer to lurk in the forests and sit for hours outside in the dark of the tree's and studying the animals and the dark ways of the woods. I study in the art of Black Magic, sure enough this is a dangerous art but it interests me and i enjoy the feeling of pure energy and power that surges threw my body. It's a fantastic feeling! I might over do it some days though, i get in over my head with all the magic stuff, it's weird actually..it kind of takes over my body. Sometimes i can just think stuff and it happens..i have the ability to set things on fire with my mind, that's what scares me. My mother Harquline Casper also likes Dark Magic, she has studied it for 30 years, my mother is 45 and started studying Dark Magic when she was 15. She is a lot more experienced than i am and so she gives me the odd lesson when she has the time. My father Deviani Casper died when he was only 32 after an accident in the woods, he was torn to shreds by a wild bear...or so i have been told. I've never actually heard the whole story as mother doesn't like talking about it. It's a touchy subject, my mother still cries at night over my father, it saddens me to see her in so much pain. Not everyone knows what happened that day, i don't think i will ever be sure of what happened. There is so many rumors that have gone round our little town of DaethlyMeguine but i don't think anyone will ever know for sure...like i said it's a touchy subject.
Weird things have started happening around DaethlyMeguine, animals going missing, people's goods going missing as well as their food and clothes. It's always been a strange town but never 'this' strange. The people are starting to become jumpy and on the look out. Whatever took my father's life..i think it's on its way back! If i said i wasn't afraid then i would be lying as i am indeed afraid. But i want revenge on the fowl beast. Whatever it is, its life will not be spared if it re-enters this town, i shall kill it and then hang its head on a spike outside of the town as a warning to predators. There was one place i could always count on in a time like this, the dark castle of Faerquine Hill, mother has told me to never go up there as it is dangerous but once in a blood moon i plan on doing just that. The blood moon will shine down on our village in one short month, and that night at exactly midnight i shall stand on the Faerquine Hill and that is when all shall become clear of who i am.
"Flo! Get out here now!" Mother cried from the small damp kitchen.
"Ok, i'm coming!" I yelled back, from my room.
My room had black curtains and matching black tiles, the walls where brick but they suited my room. I had a small single bed, it was rounded and the blanket's and pillows where also a matching black. It had two little circular windows on the one wall but no curtains hung on these windows. I liked being able to see Faerquine Castle from my room.
"What have i done?" I questioned as i walked down the small brick steps into the bleak kitchen.
She mumbled something.
Puzzled i stared at her blankly. "Mother?"
"Yes, oh you haven't done anything my dear, it's the anniversary of your fathers death next week and i think we should put together a sort of ceremony?"
"What!? To mark that he's dead! It's completely stupid!" I yelled.
I was usually very un-sensitive towards the matter of my father. I hated the ceremonies mother put together once a year, i didn't like showing off his death, i didn't want to remember him. Not anymore, it hurt to much.
"Honestly Flo, don't be so silly!" Mother was angry now i could tell
"I'm not being silly! It's a plain fact!"
"Flo, i know it hurts you but it hurts me to, but the ceremony will be a time to remember him, his good memories"
Mother looked hurt and distraught by my shouting, so i decided to give in and go along with her plan, after all she works so hard with me and i wouldn't want to hurt her anymore.
"Fine, i guess it might be nice"
"Plus everyone in DaethlyMeguine will come!" Mother shouted enthusiastically.
"That's not a good thing" I smirked and walked out of the room, i walked out the small oak front door and down the cobbled stone path, it was one of those rare sunny days we got in the village so i didn't want to be stuck inside, i reached the end of the cobbled path and pushed open our wooden gate, closing it gently behind me. There was a lot of people outside today, harvesting crops and tending to their livestock. I walked off down the dirt path that led into the forest, as soon as i was out of site of anybody i started running down the path into the dark shade of the tree's. The tall green tree's appeared in front of me and i ran into an opening in one of the hedges surrounding the forest area. The forest looked more beautiful than ever, the small delicate flowers bloomed on the boggy ground and the animals scurried about, darting and dashing from tree to tree, from hedge to hedge. This forest was my safe place..it was my own dream world. I ran towards one of the tallest trees in the forest, it had a grey rope hanging from its mighty trunk off one of the strong branches, i grabbed hold of the rope and climbed up the tree, i sat on one of the branches and steadied myself then lent back against the tree trunk.
"Hey! You! What are you doing up there?!" A mans voice yelled from below the tree, Startled i jumped and nearly fell out. I turned around to see a handsome boy, around my age, staring up at me from the ground. He was wearing worn brown boots, beige trousers with a rip in the knee and a grey t-shirt with a brown jacket on top. His hair was raven black and it was spiked up with water at the front. His eye's were a beautiful blue, crystal blue almost.
"Hey! I'm talking to you!" He yelled again.
"What do you think i'm doing up here!?" I yelled back from the tree.
"Well, you could be stuck!"
"I'm not an idiot!"
"Your the one in the tree" He smirked and kicked a stone along the ground.
"You can come up if you like? There's a rope round the back, you can walk up the tree trunk" I suggested.
"Ok!" He yelled.
He walked round to the back of the tree and began climbing up the trunk, i watched him as he climbed the great tree trunk with ease and swift movements, he had obviously done this before.
"It's not the first time I've been up this tree you know" He told me.
I looked at him puzzled. This was my place. No-one should be up here but me. What right does he have coming up here!
"What!?" I replied angrily "Why have you been up here?" "This is my place, You shou.."
"Whoa!" He interrupted "It's ok miss.."
He implied he wanted to know my name, so with no hesitation i gave it to him.
"I'm Flo, Flo Casper" I said
"Ahh" He said in a wondered tone.
"Yes?" Puzzled again by his weird tones and facial expressions.
"I'm Jack, Jack Rellik" He told me.
"That's an unusual surname, isn't it?"
"Yeah, but i like it, it's unique" He replied defensively.
"I like it to" I replied.
"Really? Wow, your the first then..well the second if you count me" He laughed.
"Yes, What about your parents?"
"Well my mother passed away, she had some illness" He looked up to the sky.
"Oh..and what about your father?" I wanted to find out about this mysterious boy. Who exactly was he, where had he come from and what was he doing here now.
"He couldn't cope with me, he sent me to my Great Aunt Eleanor just outside of here" He replied.
"So what the heck are you doing out here?" I was still very much puzzled by this boy, Jack Rellik. A mysterious boy that had appeared from nowhere and found me.
"I always come out here, into the forest, it's just for peace i guess, it helps me think" "What about you?" He questioned.
"Well i live in a little village, DaethlyMeguine, i come here for the same reasons you do, to think"
"Wow, and i thought i was the only one!" He said with amazement.
"Nope!" I replied
To me this strange Jack, was someone who understood me. He was the first person to make me smile and i had only known him for about 30 minutes.
"I better get back to my aunt or she might worry to much" He looked at me.
"Ok, I better get back to mother" I turned red and looked away.
"Umm..Flo?" He stared directly into my eyes.
"Y..Yes?" Looking at him now i replied stuttering.
"Could we meet here same time tomorrow? Maybe? Only if you can though"
"Sure! I mean...yeah that would be great."
He laughed and started to climb down from the tree.
"I'll see you tomorrow then!" He yelled from the ground again.
"Definitely!" I yelled back in return.
He smiled to me up in the tree, then he turned and walked away.
As soon as he was out of site i ran back out the forest and down the dirt path. I wanted to tell mother my good news! I slowed as i rounded the corner from the hedge to catch my breath quickly before going back into the village where everyone could see me.
"Oh Flo!" Mother yelled as she caught site of me "I was so scared! I thought you were in the building!"
"Whoa, what building" I looked at mother
"The bakery burned down, i thought you were in there, the Johnson's little girl is badly hurt, we don't think she will make it" Mother told me
"How did this happen!" I screamed
"We don't know Flo, it was a freak accident" Mother replied in a slow voice
I forgot about my good news, i forgot about Jack, i turned and pulled my mother off me and ran into the house, i wasn't good with bad news. Ever since my fathers death i couldn't bare to hear anything bad happening. I ran into my room and jumped onto my bed. I started sobbing uncontrollably into my pillow.
"Flo?" Mother walked into my room and sat on my bed next to me, she started playing with my hair like she used to when i was little.
"Bad things! Bad things can't happen!" I screamed at her.
"But they do darling, this is about your father isn't it?" Somehow she could always tell, when i was sad because of something else or whether i was sad because of my father's accident.
"He didn't deserve to die! He should be here! With me! With us!" I screamed again.
"No-one deserves to die, i know he should be here with us darling but he isn't and i'm sure he wouldn't want to see you like this" She told me in a calming voice. Mother's voice was pleasant and calming, it always made me feel safe.
"I know, i just miss him so much" I sniffed.
I sat up and mother put her arms around me, we hugged until i had fully stopped crying and then mother went downstairs and i stayed on my bed, i lay down staring out the window, i stared at the castle on the hill.
"One day i'll go up there" I muttered "One day"

I think this is an interesting topic, I don't usually see characters with powers like Flo's or her mother's. I'm curious about their powers because I want to see their limitations and strengths. Flo doesn't seem to have a lot of control yet, but I'm sure she will and then, enemies will crumble just by seeing her!
Your description is good, it doesn't disrupt the story, and it still allows readers to visualize the story in their head.
Remember to add a comma or period (full stop) after a line of dialogue. Like this... "Hello," he said. Or this... Leaning forward, he whispered, "Hey."
Anyway, this was a good read! I'll be looking for the next chapter(s).
I am hooked
...Can't wait to see will Johnson's litle girl make it. And I like the dark magic part..can't wait to see Flo using it...or her mother. You have a good start here dont mess it up please. I think ur "space" buton is a bit mesed up and there are few "i" and "too" as "giftd1" recently said...I will follow u from now on...please hurry with 2nd part
Hey there, here is a review for you..I must confess that you got me really captivated with your story, not because I'm a fan of dark magic,bt because of your uniqueness and difference, especially when you said you do nt believe that good things happen all the time.I assume that the lack of space btw some words is due to typing error and a few wrong spellings eg 'too'spelt as 'to'.But overall, excellent story.keep it up and always remember to capitalize your 'I'.
It's an interesting subject. Majorrrrr cliffhanger! I did notice punctuation errors and style errors, but the story itself shows potential!
HEY!
Umaima here to review your submission today!
Your story was great, I had fun reading it and it was clear to but it had a few grammatical mistakes...
you need to captilise 'I' in this and many other places too, I is a noun and you have to captilise all nouns so remember that.
you should put space between 'andfantasyworlds' and mak it 'and fantasy worlds'
[quote[ i focus more on the dark side type of clothing from Gothica shops or spiritual shops. [/quote]
cut the word 'type' according to me it is not really needed.
"ofScotlandand"
make it "of scotland and" I know these mistakes are clearly seen so I really think you should prrofread it.
"It's typical really as i have no friends here, i never have"
It should be had instead of have. you are trying to say you never had before as I can see it.
And then there is a big list of mistakes so here's a quick tip, please proofread it because the story is really attention grabbing and all but there are to many mistakes. so proofread it once and you have an amazing piece with yourself!
Hope this helped!
I really like the way that you started this story. Very good intro! Touchy subject indeed, makes you think something happened. This shows another side that many people don't know about stereotypical goths. Very nice, I love this! The way you ended it too, very good cliffhanger. People will definitely be waiting for more as soon as they read this. Doesn't even matter their interests. Naturally I only read fantasy, but this really has me hooked. Waiting eagerly!
Thankyou! I'm writing some more at the moment! I will be posting it soon
It's really nice to have some positive feedback, i'll be sure not to keep you waiting to long .
