E - Everyone

The Siren.

The carcass of my last victim still warm.

My screech is loud and clear.

I wait as silent and still as the night,

waiting for someone foolish and young,

someone full of hope for the world to come.

My deafening squawk will be smooth and sweet,

Those who know its tune will pity the poor prey but still remain silent.

Alas they are far to weak to resist my temptations.

I will not take their souls whole,

but suckle, gentle and often, taking all that is theirs until they are left with nothing of themselves.

I will take for no other reason than my own glutenous nature and I will revel in the fact that they are now completely mine.

I will then move on and find again some poor young fool.

ScarOfTheWind Review

Hello! This is my first review so it might be a little bad.
I really liked the eerie feeling it gave me when I read it. The start is amazing, very captivating. It pulls the reader in right away by saying; t"he carcass of my last victim still warm."
It describes what the siren is doing with her pray which I find very intriguing. I also really like (well I like the whole thing a lot!) the part where you talk about "someone foolish and young." As I all ready said I love the whole thing! Can't wait to read more of you from you!!

I like the feelings of this short poetry!
It exactly expresses what a siren is doing with her preys.I think you did a very good job here.
The start was the most amazing part atleats for me which made me stay.
The last lines were kind of off atleast for me.But this is only my opinion.
Maybe the 'I will' repeatment made me think this way towards the end.
But overall it is amazing piece of art!

Hi Hereitstarts, I hope you are having a good day and here's my review. I liked the idea behind it being of course a siren, but I feel at times that the poem could have elaborated in different ways. Maybe it's just me but in lines 9 and 11 you started both of them with the word take, and I feel that you could have used a different word in that circumstance to truly illustrate the siren. Also I don't know what squack means, so if you could define that for me that would be greatly appreciated. Finally, overall I really like the poem especially lines 1&2 as they start off strong. I can't wait to read more works from you!

Thanks so much for your feedback :D I used the word 'take' twice just for emphasis, to really show that these men aren't giving themselves voluntarily, but if it doesn't work I will try find a suitable alternative so thank you! A squawk is like the sound a crow makes or an upset bird, it is a very unpleasant sound :)

No prob :) and reading the poem now yeah your right I can see the emphasis with 'take'

Hi! I'm Doc, nice to meet you :)

I liked the darkness of this piece, I've always had a particular interest in mermaids and sirens.
Someone very close to me is a sailor and I grew up reading a lot of fairy tales so always thought these creatures of the sea were very spooky.

In your first line, the word carcass is misspelled. I also think the punctuation is a little off - it disrupts the flow of the piece. I would say:

The carcass of my last victim - still warm,
my screech is loud and clear.

I love the lines:

"I wait as silent and still as the night,

waiting for someone foolish and young,

someone full of hope for the world to come."

Great use of rhyme there and adds a tone of ambiance - setting the reader up for fright.

I didn't like the use of the word "squack" - reminded me too much of ducks to be quite honest...
I understand what you're trying to convey; the sound of this mystical creature. Maybe use an onomatopoeia instead? Just a suggestion.

Again, I love the imagery of "suckling the soul"... very terrifying and powerful.

You start the poem on a such a strong note but the ending feels more life a story than a poem. I would separate it into lines instead of making it one big run on.

There's some awesome potential here - I like it!

Thanks for taking the time to read my poem, I'm very new to poetry so thanks a lot for your help with the punctuation and what not, I will defiantly put it to good use, although I do like the use of squawk (which I have realized I spelled incorrectly, I've major problems with spelling, spell check is my savior) as I always associate it with an awful noise which is really what I am trying to get across :) Thank you so much for all your help
