A/N (Authors note) Things you need to know. - This story is written by me (HavenBuzz) and published on the site on 2016-03-29. This is the first story I have written on this site. This is a Jacksepticeye fanfiction and is set in times of medieval/anarchy, so there will be no mention of Youtube or any other 21st century Topics. Any ungrammatically correct sayings said during Character-Character interaction has meaning, ex. "a'right" is to show slightly different accents towards certain characters, and not all characters will talk in the same way. Also, there will be nothing extremely inappropriate in this story, which means nothing will go farther than a possible kiss. However, Because of my tendency to make stories as action packed and detailed as possible, there may be fighting, death and/or mention of death like topics(possibly blood). If you are sensitive to any of those things and you wish not to read them, I will leave an A/N at the top of the chapters containing warnings for certain topics.- example; If there is going to be excessive blood and death in a chapter I will put "A/N **WARNING- Blood/Death** minor blood (small cut-ex.) will go something like this. **WARNING-Minor Blood**". I Hope this is not a problem to people who don't like Chapter spoilers. (However if you don't like those types of spoilers, you may skip it. It will always be at the top of the chapters unless I forget. It is mostly going to be a warning to the more emotional/Squeamish audience) Also, There might not be mention of Sean in the first few chapters because I want to get the readers to understand the main character better. :D

And on a final note, if you find any typos or things that could be made better, I would love for you to please let me know.

P.S- because Jacksepticeye has been so secretive about his family (which I understand), his family's first names will mostly be made up.

**Thank you and Enjoy**

Chapter 1 - Raindrops on the window-

The smell of the fresh bread that fills my nostrils, as I stare out the window of the bakery longingly, pulls me from my thoughts. I sigh and grab the oven mitt off of its hook before I rush into the kitchen and open the woodstove. Day after day, week after week, this is my life. Every day, I show up at the bakery, and stay here from dawn until dinner, baking loaves of bread and sweets. Every. Single. Day. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate my job. How could I? It keeps food on the table for my sister and I and keeps a roof over our heads.

I reach into the huge stove and pull out 3 loaves of bread. I walk over to the counter and carefully place the bread there to cool.

"ARLANA?" A voice yells. I jump, smacking my hand off of the burning hot bread pan. I cry out in pain.

"oh my goodness! Arlana, are you alright?!" Mrs.O'Conner gasps, rushing to my aid.

"yes... I'm fine Mrs.O'Conner" I hiss in pain. She puts her hands on her hips shakes her head disapprovingly.

"Arlana... I thought I told ya, there is no need for such formality!" Oh no... I forgot.

"Oh! apology's..... Susan."

"It's alright honey," she smiles a bit before half frowning, "Aren't cha done for today?"

"I was just finishing up the baking," I say while still cringing at the throb in my left hand, "Why do you ask?"

"Oh, no reason darling..." Her smiles falter's just slightly. She looks at me, Practically studying me, almost in the way she examines the bread to see if its ready to be sold. But that look lasts mere seconds before she continues. "A letter was delivered to me with yer name on it. It's on the counter along with yer wage."

"who's the letter from?" I frown, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm not sure..." she claims before turning on her heels and heading to the back to check inventory, or whatever she does after hours.

With knitted eyebrows, I take the oven mitt off my hand and head to my coat and boots in the corner. I take off my Apron and slip into my long, worn out coat, I slip my boots under my petticoat and head to the counter. I grab the small change purse of coins off the table and spill them onto the counter, quickly counting them. I do this every time I get my wage. Not because I don't trust Mrs.O'Conner, but because at times she can be rather... scatterbrained. I flinch as my thumb brushes the burn on my other hand. It's merely a bit red now, but I know it's going to hurt tomorrow.

I collect all of my coins and slip the small purse into my pocket. I'm about to leave when I notice the white envelope with a red seal decorating the front. I debate for a moment on whether I should open it right here and now, but decide that the letter may be personal and opening it now may not be the best course of action. So, instead, I put it in my pocket and hurry out the door, and towards home.

Some men are lighting the streetlights as I walk, but other than that, the streets seem pretty empty. Few people walk home from work, and there is a few horse drawn carriages bringing the city's more esteemed families to dinner parties and such, but at this hour, most are at home eating with their families. I walk by barber shops and bakeries, grocery stores. All of which I do not have enough money to purchase from, so I keep walking. I march faster and faster as night draws nearer. Until I stop, dead in my tracks, right in front of a certain window. In front of me, are window displays of beautifully designed dresses and shoes. I stare longingly at a certain two dresses, A child sized one with beautiful golden embroidery and Silky green velvet that would match perfectly with Fiona's dazzling emerald green eyes and golden locks, and a long simple blue one with black fabric inside and black bow around the waist. I reach my hand to the glass and I see my long bony fingers and the rough callused skin of my hand. I gaze lingers for a few moments before I look at the window again. This time, however, I no longer see the beautiful pieces of art in the store. instead, I see my reflection. I see my hollow starved frame and hollow cheeks, my tired blue eyes and the few wisps of dark brown hair that had long since escaped the confinements of my hood. I see how my coat is ripped on the arm and how the scar on my cheek though faded, is still visible. I see how my freckles still cover my nose and cheeks. and how my shoulders have started to slightly slump. All I can do is frown at the face in front of me.

I turn my head away from the window and continue on my way. What was I thinking?! Someone like me could never afford dresses like that.

The dirt path home is very long, tiring and tedious thing to do every day, and to be honest. I despise it.

"There's not much you can do about it Arlana," I sigh. I take a few steps onto the creaky, half-rotten steps before the busted oak door fly's open to reveal a very content Fiona.

"Yay! Arlana! You're home!" she smiles before bear hugging me.

"Of course... I'm... home, Fiona...now... could you possibly.... let me go?" I gasp. for an 8-year-old, She's pretty strong.

"Oh!" she pulls away, allowing me to breath again. she looks down a bit in embarrassment. "Sorry..."

I smile and crouch down to hug her and then I place my hands on her shoulders. "It alright... so? what do you think we have in the cupboard for supper?" she pulls on her "brainstorming" face, which includes knitted eyebrows, crossed arms and a sort of grimace that I always thought was adorable, which makes me smirk.

"Hello?" I wave my hand in front of her face. She frowns at me with an 'I was thinking!' look etched into her adorable little face and bright green doe-like eyes.

I laugh. "How about instead of us standing here, thinking about food, we go inside and see for ourselves?" and with a shrug of her shoulders she skips into the kitchen. I take off my boots and coat and place the boots by the door and my coat on the chair.

"Fiona! it's freezing in here." I shiver. The wood stove is off.

"I didn't know where you kept the wood!" she says from the other room. I groan.

"I told you it's under the chair on the patio!"

"Oops, I forgot."

I roll my eyes and walk out the patio and come back in with arms filled with pre-cut wooden logs. I place the wood inside the wood stove and light it up with a match. when the fire roars to live, I just stand there a few moments. you know, Until I can feel my fingers again. When I'm sure the wood is burning sufficiently, I head out to the kitchen.

When I walk in, I'm greeted by my sister standing on the counter, digging through whatever little we currently have in the pantry.

"So, Goldilocks, what are we eating today? Bread and jelly, of bread and cheese?" I tease.

"Welllllll...." she mutters from inside the press. "Look for yourself," she says before hopping off the counter and plopping a jar of what appears to be peaches.

I gasp. " Fiona! where did you get this!" I cross my arms.

"I found money on the street and-" she started.

"Fiona Colleen Walsh! I thought I specifically told you not to go into town without me!" I'm fuming.

"I-I just-"

"Do you understand what kind of trouble you could get yourself into?!" I start to raise my voice, I snap out of it, however, when I see Fiona's eye well up with tears. I immediately feel terrible. I hug her tight and she sobs slightly. "I'm sorry Fio." she wipes her eyes before responding.

"I'm sorry too... I just get bored and lonely when you're at work all day!" she frowns and I do the same.

"Oh, Fio... you know I have to go to work to get us money for food and to pay for this house..."

"I know... I hate that you have to leave me all the time... " She looks into my eyes with a very irritated look. "You work so hard, Arlana! Why do we have lots less than all the fancy people in town? I never see them doing work like you. I never see any of their little boys and girls looking all over the ground for coins like I do. why do they have all the money? They don't need it! Why don't they share with us? You always told me that we should share with people who have less than us. why are they so mean?" She looks furious. Well you know, if the human equivalent of an angry bunny rabbit could be considered furious.

"well, Goldilocks..." I sit down on one of the kitchen chairs, "Some people have better lives than us. Some people have rich parents of rich relatives. some have better jobs, like doctors. And a lot of the time it's hard to people with lots of money to relate to our lifestyles. They have so much that they don't know what it's like to go without, so they don't think they need to give to others...The reason people like us think sharing is a good thing is because we know what its like to go without, and we don't want anyone to go through what we go through. They don't understand just how bad it is for us. Also, a lot of the rich people think they're too good for us. They think that, just because they have a lot of money, they own the world. A lot of the time people with money tend to be very stuck up, and don't care what goes on with anyone else's life but their own." I explain.

"Oh..." she looks down, thinking over what I just said.

"Now I want you to promise me 3 things," I start, she looks up expectantly,"First, I want you to promise that you will never be stuck up like rich people." she nods "Second, I want you to at least tell me when you're going to go into town." She looks down guilty but nods her head none the less. "And finally..." I pause waiting for a reaction.

"Yes..?" she exclaimed.

"And finally...." I say again just to tease her. She looks at me slightly irked.

"What is it Arlana????" and I laugh.

"Promise that you will......" I smirk, "......help me eat these!" I yell before opening the jar. she giggles before sitting down to join me.

minutes later we finished the peaches, and may I just say, I don't remember the last time we were this satisfied.

I wash the dishes and wipe down the counter as Fiona runs upstairs to change into her nightgown. Outside, the rain starts tapping against the roof and windows. When I'm finished cleaning, I make my way to Fiona's door and knock lightly. when I get the all clear, I open the door and make my way in. Fiona is sitting at the head of the bed look at something.

"What do you have their Goldilocks?"

Without a word, she looks up and hands me a drawing. I carefully examine it, frowning. In the picture, there was a small flaming town. it was burning to the ground, and people are running away. The picture seems very familiar, yet eerie. Like a major cause of deja-vu mixed with fear.

"Were you having those dreams again?" She nods.

This was not an uncommon problem. Fiona has been having these nightmares since we were really young, we never found out why. I fold up the drawing and slip it into the pocket of my apron.

"Lay down. it's time for sleep." I tuck her in before kissing her on the forehead and walking to the doorway.

"Goodnight Arlana," she yawns with a small smile etched onto her porcelain features. She's practically out like a light already.

"Goodnight princess." I chuckle before carefully closing the door.

Tiptoeing down the stairs silently it probably one of the hardest things to do. They're old, creaky and practically falling apart, but by some kind of miracle, I make it without breaking my neck.

The rain leaves soft tapping sounds on the roof. My feet make the floor creak. The wind makes the windows whistle, and fate casts my gaze to the floor near my coat.

Because there- on the floor is a letter. The letter. Paper wrapped in paper and sealed with wax. I grasp the letter in my hands, and I settle myself on the window sill. Raindrops roll down the window with speed and agility, one after another. Illuminated by the near-by candle. I pull  my eyes away from the window and focus on the envelope, because this time, I'm determined not to get distracted.

This can only lead to strange paths, and I've always loved the strange and beautiful.

Firstly, before I do a full on content review, the smaller issues:

-""oh my goodness! Arlana, are you alright?!"" Capitalize Oh.

-""Oh! apology's..... Susan."" Capitalize Apology's.

-"Her smiles falter's just slightly." Falter's? Do you mean falters? Those two mean different things, if I'm not wrong.

-"She looks at me, Practically studying me, almost in the way she examines the bread to see if its ready to be sold." You capitalized practically. Why?

-"I stare longingly at a certain two dresses, A child sized one with beautiful golden embroidery and Silky green velvet that would match perfectly with Fiona's dazzling emerald green eyes and golden locks, and a long simple blue one with black fabric inside and black bow around the waist. " You also capitalized 'A child sized' and 'Silky' in the middle of the sentence. Unless they're both names, that isn't necessary.

-"instead, I see my reflection." Capitalize--well, you get the point.

-"I see my hollow starved frame and hollow cheeks," Strained repetition. Try to remove hollow from 'hollow starved frame' as 'starved frame' is already pretty good. We don't want to decrease the power of the word 'hollow'.

-"for an 8-year-old, She's pretty strong." Why did you capitalize She's?

Alright, you might be annoyed at me correcting capitalization and the like, but it isn't without intent. It's difficult for the readers to take a work seriously, no matter how good the content, if it can't get the basics right--basically, if it doesn't sound correct, whatever it will try to say won't reach the readers head. With that said, let's move on to the content.

I think this might make an interesting storyline, and I'm curious as how this will lead to Medieval Jacksepticeye. For one, it's set in the medieval ages, which is a strange choice for a Youtuber fanfiction--again, strange choices are sort of my thing. However, while this can lead to good things, I warn that you should either a) do a little bit of research, just to see if certain inventions existed at the time and if certain words were commonly used, or b) make it into a fantasy setting and polish it a bit. Whichever you take, you will need to add a layer of realism to it so that the reader is familiar with the setting and not instantaneously shocked by the strangeness of it all. Kill the slowly, is what I'm saying here.

In this chapter, I felt like the main character needs a bit more character development. We know she's a hard worker, but we don't particularly know what she likes, what she wants most in the word, what her dreams are, how she acts in front of other people, why we should root for her--basically, how to make the reader invest in her. She's certainly not flat, but she's about 50% there and the other 50% will take some effort.

But for now, that's all I can say about the work. Well done.

Signing out,

This has a really good plot and I love the diction choices you made for Mrs. O'Conner. It really strengthens her sense of existence in this story. However, there were some places were you started sentences with lower case letters and I think I saw two spaces between some words. Other than that it was really good. I'd love to read more.

I'm glad you liked it :) some of the double spaces/lower cases are probably typos, but I will go through and try and fix as many as possible. Thank you for reading.
