In movies and TV shows, there is always a note. Always some dramatic goodbye or an explanation of some sort. But the truth is, according to my grief counselor, only about 25-30% of people leave notes.
Sage Meyers was not one of them.
In fact, most people are debating right now about whether or not my best friend actually killed herself. She had her earbuds in, wasn't paying attention. The music was too loud and she had her eyes shut. But I know Sage. I know Sage better than anyone. She ran almost every night, always the same route. When she couldn't sleep, she'd sneak out for a run. She knew that street better than the back of her own eyelids. She probably knew exactly how many footsteps it was from her house to the busy road.
Her death was not an accident.
I tried explaining that. But you know how it goes, authorities in a small town and grieving parents, no one wants to admit that one teenage girl felt so alone and helpless that she killed herself. Everybody knows it deep down, but nobody addresses the elephant in the room.
I knew Sage, I loved her. She was my best friend, she always knew what I was thinking. She was the adventurous one, the one never afraid of getting in trouble. I was nothing without her. But what I couldn't figure out is why she would kill herself. Why she would leave me.
I was laying on my bed, music booming in my ears, when I got the news.
"Ellie?" I yanked an earbud out of my ear as my Mom walked in.
"What?" I said sharply,
"Elliana, please watch your tone," My Mom was generally very relaxed. Except when it came to disrespect.
"I just got the news from Mrs. Meyers about Sage..." she trailed off as I sat up, my muscles rigid.
"What? Did they figure out if it was suicide or not?" My voice rose as I spoke, adrenaline shot through my body.
"Yes, they are officially saying that Sage's death was an accident."
No it wasn't.

Very well-written, emotional, quick and to the point and not to mention good character introduction.

I think it was a very good idea to write the story from Ellie's point of view because being the best friend, she would have known Sage better than anyone. Best friends are inclined to tell each other everything, even their darkest secrets that they may not have told anyone else. Introducing Ellie was an interesting concept to go with and I certainly look forward to seeing where the course of the story will go.
You're a great writer, Gravity!
Ohhhh, so it's from her friends point of view. I was reviewing your prologue thinking it was Sage for some reason. Anyway, again, well-written and heart-wrenching. Full of raw emotion and that emptiness only certain writers can express. I will review this as well at some point.
By the way, I love this line "She knew that street better than the back of her own eyelids."
Well written, I really love this story line and I can't wait to see how it plays out. I think Sage could be a bit more developed, so we know more about her personality and character apart from that she was lonely and suicidal. Also, I would like to know more about the kind of enviroment and everything. And also to agree with TheSparringPanther, the chaper is a bit short.
But overall, It is a really good start and I can't wait for more!!
Well written, and interesting still. The main character gets some development and context, as does the environment they're in.
The main problem is that this is way too short. The chapter also feels like it stops at a moment something more was about to happen - sort of like a misplaced cliffhanger.
tl;dr great! but short :')
I know, my intent was to make the first chapter short, just to introduce the reader to Ellie. The chapters are about to get much longer.
Brilliant, once again! Love it. Complete thoughts this time, though it had a lot less emotion (as I feel) than the prologue. Or not. Ellie seems pretty ticked and sad at the same time, all about her best friend's death. I, however, can't really feel it, even though I think it's there. With each time that you write, I want to know more. What were Sage's true problems? What was she running from? A lot runs through my head right now. Your piece has given me a nice mental rush. I thank you for your work.
