"He's a demon who ties your soul to the ends of his carriage and drags you to eternal purgatory."
"His sickle is covered with the blood and the misery of mankind."
"His touch is like the coldest ice. His cloak is long and black like the darkest, starless night."
"He is inescapable. He's everywhere."
Quite scary isn't it? To be dragged by a carriage. Although, it isn't true. Most of these statement are erroneous and perpetuated by mad poets and those moving pictures on a large mechanical rectangle.
What is it called?
Ah, Television.
No, I'm not "Him", the one they all talk about. He's the big shot. The one who runs the show. Saying his name here is forbidden, in fact, disrespectful. After all, he’s the one who keeps this place functional. Everyone else is just, insignificant in comparison.
I'm his assistant. No, his predecessor. If he were to traverse a frozen driveway, I'd be his shovel. I don't exactly have a name, most of them call me "the creature at the typewriter" or "the winged accountant".
But you can call me Theo. I like that name.
So what exactly is my purpose you may ask? Well, my job is to keep an account of his customers. Those who summoned him and those who were summoned by him.
He's never late you see, nor is he a minute too early. His customers, confused little creatures, sit before me and unburden themselves before he comes and carries them away in his arms. Poor, poor little creatures. Sometimes they don't get to finish their sentences, because he comes and takes them away almost immediately.
That's the only complaint is have.
He's impatient.
I'm supposed to record the time they enter our realm and how they managed this entry.
Confused?
I wouldn't blame you.
I probably shouldn't be so cryptic, for my own good.
It's not my fault really, I've met so many poets and literature giants that I seem to have absorbed a tiny percentage of their ability to twist words into cryptic shapes.
I must be part - sponge.
Anyway, I have decided to tell you who exactly I am. In plain and simple words.
But for now, perhaps, you must wait for the next bit of parchment.
Now now, hissing and cursing can get you nowhere.
Don't be like him. Don't be impatient.

I saw this chapter and was immediately interested. I don't know why, but "The Beginning" sounded like a nice chapter name. Overall the chapter was pretty good. Just like Flash said, the paragraphs seemed too short, but that's your style. Just be warned people may get onto you a lot about it in the future. I do feel that this chapter was a little short, I really wish it would have been a bit longer. I also like how you use italics at the beginning to talk about the "demon". That was really interesting and made me want to read on. Overall I think this was a good story and I cannot wait to read more. One more thing, does this story have a title?
Thank you so much pdavinci!

Yes. I like simplistic titles which don't give away too much of the plot.
You've got a point. I shall try to incorporate larger paragraphs while being true to my style of writing.
This is a prologue of sorts. The following chapters will be longer.
Thank you so much for reading and critiquing! You'll make my day.
Oh and about the title of the story, I still haven't decided. I'm in a dilemma of sorts. :/ But once I come up with one, I'll be sure to post it right away!
Hello! Flash here for a quick review.
I saw this title and figured I'd see what this story is about. Honestly I recommend giving it a title so other people could be intrigued to read it, too. (But then again plenty of people don't give titles. Just whichever you choose.)
Okay, onto the review itself. It's a very short, sweet little chapter one so there isn't really much I can say here. Grammar looks good, as well as the technical side. Good job on that!
However, I do have one little nitpick: the "paragraphs" are waaaay too short. Towards the end you've got one sentence paragraphs. I recommend making them longer or putting those single sentences together. It's nitpicky on my part, I know, but it should be addressed.
Hmm, it think that's all for the errors here. The story itself was very interesting! The first few sentences in italics kept me wanting to read more. (I am quite a fan of non-human stories, after all.) You kept the details short and it seems you have a minimalistic style. I like it! It makes me wonder though. Who is this person? Are they human or a creature? And who are they talking about? A demon king? Shinigami? I'd like to find out soon!
Overall I really liked this piece. Short but still awesome. I'll be on the lookout for more chapters of this one for sure!
Keep writing!

Flash! Thank you so much for your critique.
I will look into everything you've suggested.

Also, the single line paragraphs are sort of a style I've adapted. I like leaving people wanting more *grins maliciously*.
Haha, stay tuned.
Once again, thanks a ton!
I see. It's a cool style!
No problem and I can't wait to read more!
