Three poems for the truth.

In Love

PreviousNext

‘Regret’ and ‘pain’

Are words

That describe what happened.

But so are

‘Hope’ and ‘Love.’

From what very little

I have tasted

Of this forbidden fruit

I think that

‘Shame’ and ‘purity’

Have somehow

Ended up the same.

I asked him what he wants from me

And this is what he said:

“Your heart.” But when he told me this

I said, “Too much to give.”

“But that is what I want.” Said he

Said I, “I know I asked,

but I can't give my heart to you,

I need my heart to live.”

Oh why has blood become my shame?

Does every creature bleed?

He only took what I would give.

I gave him all I need.

I wait for him to call for me

I don’t know if he will.

I’ll answer in my sweetest voice

If I am willing still.

The reason that the formatting is weird is because they're three different and separate poems on the same topic. They're not stanzas, but they each go together.

Hey Frances! I'm here for a review!
So first things first, you need to set a proper format. It's annoying to read the poem like this. It's ok if your poem is a shape poem ( which it's not) but this way is just random and pointless. When you wrote:
"I said, “Too much to give.”

“But that is what I want.” Said he

Said I, “I know I asked,”

“I cannot give my heart to you,”

“I need my heart to live.”
I loved this! It really managed to send thrills down my spine! But I can't help but find the dialogues confusing. Aren't the last two lines said by the same person? You should make it clear by removing the extra punctuation. And then, when you say: " I know I asked," shouldn't it be "you" instead of "I"?
The last stanza felt sort of cut off from the other two. It's difficult to process what's happened. I sort of understand that the narrator ended up giving her heart to "him" anyway, but you might want to sort of clarify the fact. I liked the ending. It was bittersweet and unexpected. Keep writing, and I hope this helped!
Cheers,
Pompadour

Uhm.. I think you want to sell this with its formatting. It just makes it look random, and I also think at the end of the poem was random. To be honest you lost me second stanza completely, there was NO flow whatsoever.

"Oh why has blood become my shame?
Does every creature bleed?
He only took what I would give.
I gave him all I need."

This just makes no sense...
and you leave it there just to write this..

I wait for him to call for me
I don’t know if he will.
I’ll answer in my sweetest voice
If I am willing still.

I think all emotion is gone in the poem and you have trouble progressing the story too. I would suggest firstly to get rid of your rhyme and re-write. Although its purely up to you.

Hey Frances! I really love the way you have depicted the whole scenario in such a precise manner. Your piece of poetry was a treat to read. And I really loved those lines

I think that

‘Shame’ and ‘purity’

Have somehow

Ended up the same.

I hope you keep coming up with stuff like this. ThumbsUp!

HI Frances, here is Dark to review on your poem!

First of all,I like the theme/issue you want to point up here in you poem.It is quiet easy to understand because you use a simple words here. That make you poem more interesting to read and not confuse the reader.
Diction in this poem is strong, served with a nice selection of words, though sometimes found words that is not accurate.
Also, the element of dialogue in this poem are actually just ruining the rhythm in the second verse.The dialogue used is too much when actually can be shortened a bit here.But anyway,I like the last two lines here;

# “I cannot give my heart to you,”

“I need my heart to live.”
In overall,I enjoyed reading your poem here.Keep it up here!:D
_Kudos
~Dark
