In Little Bit Stronger

PreviousNext

I stared at the white walls that caged me in. I bit my lip. I looked down and saw the IV that was in my hand. I closed my eyes so a tear wouldn’t escape while I remembered that painful memory. The day my life changed in the blink of an eye.

“Miss Leverette we have the results of your test.” The doctor said as he entered the room. He was wearing a pair of navy blue scrubs and over that was a white lab coat with deep pockets on the side. He came closer towards me and then finally sat down. He had my chart and lab results in his hand. He was flicking between both of them.

“And?” I asked. I was impatient. First I blacked out, then woke up here and now I was waiting to see what was wrong.

“And you have Leukemia.” I went pale. I closed my eyes and bit my lip. “You have Acute  Myelongenous Leukemia.” He explained. He started to explain all about it. “So what I would like to do is start you on Chemotherapy. We caught it quick enough that I think you have a good chance at beating it. So with you and you parents consent I would like to start Chemotherapy tomorrow afternoon.”

“My parents are dead.” I whispered.

  “Excuse me?” he asked.

“I said my parents are dead. They died in a car crash.”

“Oh I am very sorry.” He said sympathetically. “Do you have any other family you would like me to call?” he asked.

“No that’s okay. I have two friends waiting in the waiting room.” I tried to put on a fake smile.

“Okay well I will send them in.” he said with a smile. “Don’t worry Kynlee we will help you get through this.” He smiled to me as he left.

“Hey girly.” My friend Piper  said in a soft voice. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m okay.” I said. I stopped and thought about what I just said. “I think.”

“So do they have your lab results back yet?” my other friend Joelee asked.

“Yeah.” I paused. “I have Leukemia.” I sighed.

“AwAw I am so sorry.” Piper  said. “We will be right here by your side every step of the way.” They said.

And they were right. Only for a few weeks. They were by my side. But as the Leukemia progressed, they stayed away. I was always getting sick and looked pale and a mess. Nobody would have wanted to be around me. But the last time they left I thought it would be the last time I would see them. And I later found out I was right. Before  realizing they abandoned me, I waited and waited or them to show up. But they never did.

A tear slid down my face as I remembered that day. I tried to smile. But like they say. There’s a tear behind every smile and pain behind every ‘I’m okay’.

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),

Hi! I'm here to leave a quick review!!

First Impression: This made for a bit of a sad start here. We don't really know this person enough to really empathize with them, but the situation for them is truly bad enough that we do feel some emotion even in this very first part.

Anyway let's get right to it,

I stared at the white walls that caged me in. I bit my lip. I looked down and saw the IV that was in my hand. I closed my eyes so a tear wouldn’t escape while I remembered that painful memory. The day my life changed in the blink of an eye.
“Miss Leverette we have the results of your test.” The doctor said as he entered the room. He was wearing a pair of navy blue scrubs and over that was a white lab coat with deep pockets on the side. He came closer towards me and then finally sat down. He had my chart and lab results in his hand. He was flicking between both of them.

Well, this is off to quite the start here. We have someone in what appears to be a bit of a hospital setting which right away is pretty interesting, but it looks like they are the ones in trouble as well and then we just have a doctor walk in with test results that judging by the tone doesn't appear to be very good is just a lovely way to get the reader's attention and really start off with a bang here.

Well, that's a bit odd, I feel like if this therapy requires the parents consent, this person has to be young enough that they would've wondered where the parents where long before this and the doctor should've been informed so...that's a bit odd, but otherwise that's a nice way to sort of bring across what appears to be a bit of a tragic past for this person and it appears this future is also bound to be a bit tragic here judging by these results.

“No that’s okay. I have two friends waiting in the waiting room.” I tried to put on a fake smile.
“Okay well I will send them in.” he said with a smile. “Don’t worry Kynlee we will help you get through this.” He smiled to me as he left.

Well, that smile there seems to speak volumes about the sort of situation that this person is in. The friends here appear to be pretty good ones at first glance, but the way that this last bit ended seems to cast some suspicion about that. It almost seems like a subtle hint that the friends would not keep to their word.

And they were right. Only for a few weeks. They were by my side. But as the Leukemia progressed, they stayed away. I was always getting sick and looked pale and a mess. Nobody would have wanted to be around me. But the last time they left I thought it would be the last time I would see them. And I later found out I was right. Well...an interesting way to end. It almost doesn't seem like there's more to come of this, but then yet again it was still sort of like establishing a bit of a rock bottom situation for this person. At any rate, we certainly have all the worst things starting to happen as the situation for this person only continues to worsen...and well its a powerful ending there.

Aaaaand that's it for this one.

Overall: Overall, I think you've done a decent job here. Its an interesting choice of starting point, to have things be at rock bottom like this. It's certainly interesting enough that I'd definitely find myself continuing to read if this was the first part. :D

As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.

Stay Safe

This was heartbreakingly sad. To have your friends abandon you in your time of need.
