I'm from books,
from Harry Potter, from a magic spell.
I'm from African Violets,
fuzzy petals popping up without a smell.
I'm from carnations and roses
that come after a show.
I'm from the glowstick that broke in my face,
and made my blue eyes glow.
I'm from fireworks exploding
on the fourth of July
I'm from "Don't beat yourself up about it"
when I'm about to cry.
I'm from worry warts
and truthful folks
I'm from laughter
because dad loves to tell jokes.
I'm from running around a field,
kicking a soccer ball.
And auditioning for choir,
where I must give my "all".
These experiences are a part of me
They are my then and now,
I'll never abandon who I am
I wouldn't even know how.
But in my near or distant future
with whatever I become,
I know that I'll never forget,
The place where I came from.

FluttershyFan, heyhey! You're not too new here, but nice to meet you!

I think you stole my idea way too much. I had a poem just like this, exact same title, but not rhyming. Really, YWSer! Rude! But, I've gotta tell ya 'ow much I enjoyed it. I loved it. You might be copying, Fluttershy, but I'll let it go.

I promise you I was not copying you and I had no idea that you had a poem that was just the same. This poem was an assignment for school and I liked it so I decided to post it on here. I swear I didn't copy you but I'm sorry you thought so.
Oh, I apologize. I kept clicking on the link from notifications and thought you had reviewed my poem, and I went here. I was so confused and clicked on it three times before realizing it was your work, not mine.
Let me just tell you how much I adored the line, "I'm from the glow stick that broke in my face,
and made my blue eyes glow." I had to stop reading and then come down here and tell you how beautiful that line was. And I paused down here, to read the rest of it and the entire poem is amazing. There are so many different lines that I absolutely adore and made my stomach flip from butterflies because this reminds me of childhood and the things you experience, making YOU who YOU are, ya know? I wouldn't change a thing! Keep on writing.
Aw aw aw aw aw this is so cute
and harry potter! *fangirls*

I loved the message of staying true to who you are, and all the little things that made you who you are! Really cute
Hey! I like this poem a lot! You tell us what all your interests are (you have a lot of them) and I like the way you do it. You show us that each little thing in your life makes up who you are. And I like the style and flow of your poem, too.
One thing I noticed, and this is just a little grammatical error: I must give my "all".
You would actually put the period within the quotation marks. But other than that, there's nothing else I can see!
Good job!
Hey, I really like this poem! It reminds me of an assignment I had to do in back in 8th grade.
I feel as if you were giving us, as the readers an opportunity to know you without being bland with it. Instead of "I like this", you were "from this"...
You really described the things that, you believe, molded you. I find that creative, beautiful and unique on a new level. Especially since you didn't just use boring old metaphors like most of us poets do.
Stay original and you may have something going for you.
Good luck to you!
Actually, this is an assignment is for school. That's so weird!
Well, for a school assignment, you really pulled it off!
Hi! First off I really like this poem! I like how you start out with a form and then kind of branch off and start to talk about how your past has made your future. I just have one suggestion. I'm assuming that this is an emulation poem of Where I'm From by George Ella Lyon (I've done this for an English class before). If so, you should probably credit the author and say that this is an emulation of her work. That's my only comment!
Great work!
