A Poem About An Essay About Myself

PreviousNext

If I had to write an essay about myself

No guidelines or instructions on what to include

I would be stumped and have no clue how to start the paper

For me, that’s the part I’m worst at, the beginning

I would probably try a lot of different approaches to writing about myself

Maybe a serious approach

Maybe a slightly humorous approach

Maybe I should approach it from a little kids perspective

“I like dogs and cats and birds and horses”

I would appear to be clueless then

Wait, I am clueless…

Maybe I should just use my thought process of how I should write my opening as my opening

That might work

Maybe if I make it rhyme it could be a poem

Do all poems have to rhyme?

“To be or not to be, this is an essay about me”

That just makes it sound like I’m trying too hard

Wait, I am trying too hard…

Maybe I should stare at the screen until my medication wares off

Then my ADHD brain would take over

Who knows what I might write if I do that

On second thought…

Who knows what I might write if I do that

I might give away some of the biggest secrets of all time

Like what happens to gingers souls when they are born

Note to self: remove previous line (I DON’T KNOW THAT!)

Here’s a weird thing about me

I easily forget things

I am also distracted very… wait what time is it... easily

Unless I am paying 327 percent attention

I will get distracted of forget

For example:

Um………ah………I know this………wait what time is it………gaahh!

I just had it!

This is so frustrating

I give up, I’ll finish it later

It’s later

Now I have to figure out how to start my poem / essay about myself about

I’ve gone through all the options and ways I can think of

I’ve already written 1… 2… 3… 39 lines!

And yes I did stop and count

Don’t judge me

I’m also bad at writing endings

This was really interesting to read. It was so... all over the place. In a good way. You get yourself across pretty well in forty ish lines. I loved the middle wher you get into your writing. The ending was probably my favourite. The humour was just right on... Were you trying to make the reader feel the same sortt of frutration in writing this essay? There was just a sort of general awkwardness to the piece that was endearing.

Nitpicks? The medicine would wear off, not ware, and I think that this could be improved by adding punctuation... The lines almost run together at times. The beginning might also be slightly choppy...

This would be a very nice opening to an essay. Perhaps even lines just scattered through your essay. This poem makes me smile.

Way to go!

Thanks for the review, frustrating and all over the place was what i was going for. I can understand how it would need more punctuation, I'v tried to add some before but i could never find a good balance that would keep the tone just right. But thank you for your feedback, it was very helpful.

Wow! This is such an awesome approach! I have never seen anything like it before!
First off, I love your sense of humor, but I guess that would go without saying. I'm the type that has a hard time sometimes seeing life with the "Glass is half full" perspective, ESPECIALLY when doing homework! I too agree with the fact that it's hard to write beginnings, and what's a story (or poem) without a beginning? The REAL problem is that I can always think of an ending and it makes it hard to write the rest, because, what's an ending without a middle part and what's a middle part without a beginning?
Oh, well, now I'm rambling. I just want to make you sure that you know, if you keep writing things like this I'll be sure to read them!

P.S.
I loved the last few lines!

I know what you mean, I don't usually see the glass as half full. I usually see it and think "man, I hope i can drink all this". I'm glad you liked it and i'll be sure to try and make more things like it in the future. Thanks for the review :)

Hello! Here for a review :)
This is great! I love your imagination on this, and I know exactly what you are talking about when you're struggling to try to manage your time by combining projects. Really, this speaks to me straight to the heart. I'm constantly stressing over classes and projects and homework, there's no way to manage all of it without a little imagination, is there? :)
The comedy in here is priceless. Your choice of wording and vocabulary really sell yourself to me... I feel like I know you already!
Also, way to go! What an awkward assignment... Write an essay about yourself. Many people do not like talking about themselves, let alone write an entire essay on it! I think you perfectly portrayed that awkwardness in your own hysteria. Just one thing! Make sure your teacher is okay with it being a poem rather than an essay... It all depends on the seriousness of the project, I guess.
My favorite line would have to be the ending, "I'm also bad at writing endings." I find this extremely ironic because I can't think of any better way you could have ended this. You referred something from the beginning to close your piece, and not to mention it was precious.
Any whooooooo
This is wonderful! I love it :) Thank you for sharing
Oh and welcome to YWS!!! :) :) :) :)

It makes me happy that you like it and can relate to where I'm coming from. When I wrote my essay I reformatted some of the poem and used it as the first paragraph. Thanks for the review :)
