My Hair

by Emerson

Hair press: out the door.
Let its metal plates decay.
I’m getting dreadlocks.

----
I call it a hair press, but it is also known as a flat iron, or a hair straightener

A humorous haiku I wrote, not about nature, but about my hair of all things. I thought it might be light hearted enough for everyone to read. And yes, I most likely will be getting dreadlocks. I still have time to think about it though.

Hehe. This was funny. I've never read a haiku like this one. Usually, the ones I read are about nature and use very pretty language.

I have naturally straight hair so I've never used a hair straightener in my life. I don't do much with my hair. Usually, I leave it down. I tried curling it the other day, didn't really work out.

Lol. This should be a senryu, not a haiku, right? Haikus are more specific, nature-centered and sober. Senryus tend more towards the blithe and ironic. Otherwise--dreadlocks? Ew! The always smell so bad, lol. Keep your natural pretty hair, Suz!

I am going to get dreadlocks. They're so cool.

This poem is hilarious. It's funny how minimal your poems are, and yet how condensed they are. Simple amazing.

I think it's funny how I still get comments....

Yeah, I didn't get those dread locks. I really planned on it though!

Thanks everyone.

I liked it a lot!
I thought it was really cool!
Please don't get dreadlocks!

I have no clue what you look like, but I'm sure you'll look better with out them. If you get them and decide you don't want them, you would need to cut them off! Then you'd be bald!

But then again...
Dreadlocks DO look pretty cool! :D

Yea, I'm not a haiku person. But, I've expressed that several times in the past few days so I won't go into the details haha.

And haiku's are characteristic of nature.

But, it was still cute *cringe* mmm, err it was still interesting.

Oo, drama pours from this piece. A girl and her hair seem to get together like a girl and the B who stole her ex-boyfriend.

Great job (there's really nothing to critique, and it makes me sad....)

I don't have a straightener(not that i need it) but there are times when i feel like throwing my sisters straightener out the window cause it gets in my way a lot. When i say not that i need it i mean i do have long hair for a guy(shoulder length) but it grows straight.

Delicate, lyrical and very funny indeed. I am amused.
Technically, this is not a haiku, it is a senryu.
A haiku relates to nature, environment, usually they're pastoral in nature.
A senryu relates to humanity and is usually humourous or satirical.
What you have here is a perfect example of senryu.

You know what? This is the first haiku that I've read that wasn't about nature. . . It's really good though, just because of that. I like things that stand out because they break the standards. :) It's good to be different, sometimes. (I don't know if that's what you were trying to do, but it's cool nonetheless!!)

Maybe haiku humor is something I just don't get, because I grinned at it -I know several people with dreadlocks- but I didn't actually laugh out loud.

I didn't expect it to be extremely funny, more like dry British humor or something. Or just light hearted in general, compared to everything else I've written. I know no one with dreadlocks.

Thanks for all the critiques :-D Though, have to admit, "Heh!" isn't much of a critique, or a worthwhile comment....

When I get the dreads, I'll be sure to post pictures!

I tie my hair back. Going to donate it later this year. Simplicity wins :D

Ah! That was fantasic. lol and funny, I can so relate to that. Sometimes I just want to throw my straightener to the wall and let my hair go wild for the heck of it. It's not like a straightener works on my hair anyway. I'd need so much heat....*shivers* it wouldn't be pretty. Great job! Simple, funny, and you're readers can relate to it. :)

Keep it up!

Lighthearted indeed! Nothing to crit here, Claudette, it's just funny stuff. Gosh, do I understand, although I just tie mine back...
