Trapeze

I’m standing on a tiny platform,
High above the world.
Jump?

A trapeze bar hangs
So close, yet…
Jump?

Some days I can reach out,
And touch the bar,
Just like that.

But, other days
All I can see, is thin, thin air,
For miles around.

This platform’s so lonely,
So high in the sky,
I know I’ll have to jump someday.

But I’m so scared of falling.
What if I slip?
What if I fall?

There’s no safety net,
No one to catch me,
Just the trapeze.

And if this is just my imagination
And I’m really standing firm on the ground,
Why do I still feel like I’m about to fall?

You are my trapeze jump,
The ultimate test of my faith,
But dropping everything doesn’t mean you’re gonna catch anything.
And neither can you grab with both hands if one hand is full.

So jump?
Catch?
Fall?

Falling seems imminent,
Catching the bar unlikely,
And jumping…

I think I left that platform a while ago

This heart stopping moment
Just before my fingers touch the bar
Is lasting an awful long time

How much further do I have to fall?

I really like this poem, especially the repetition of the word, "jump". I also love the metaphors in this poem. It's really good! Happy writing!

There are those who say that life is like a book, with chapters for each event in your life and a limited number of pages on which you can spend your time. But I prefer to think that a book is like a life, particularly a good one, which is well to worth staying up all night to finish.
