The Girl That Was My Living Heaven

If there was one person I can say I had an experience beyond amazing and feeling as if it wasn't reality at all, mostly a fantasy that is yet, unbelievably reality I'd say Heather Bamert is someone I had various special moments with. Out of all the wonderful moments I had with this girl, one particular one comes to mind.

It all started when I was picked up by her mom one Friday...
"Hi," I say as I enter the SUV Heather's mom drives.
"Hello," Michelle replies.

"Thanks again for picking me up. I really appreciate it," I said.
"Oh, it's nothing..." And for a while we sat in awkward silence. Michelle always acted a little different than usual around people. I seen that in her. Even if Heather never told me the type of person she was; I'd probably still be able to tell; but whatever she was hiding wasn't my secret to ask for. I respected secrets. I knew very well some things were better off not spoken of.
"So is Heather okay?" I asked after a few minutes of silence.
"She went to the doctors today and they said she had something wrong with her thyroid. So yeah no kissing," She laughed awkwardly and it didn't seem real to me, but I laughed too. I was sure we both know I would still kiss Heather even of she was sick.

"As long as she's okay." I smiled at the woman driving in her thirties. Her daughter didn't look like her. As Heather did say, she is more like her dad. Although Heather inherited some things from Michelle I'd prefer not to be inherited. I needed to break this silence. Maybe open up her sealed shell. Luckily I didn't have to.

"So where are you from?"

Extensive question...

"Well I was born in Paterson and then lived in North Halden," I began. "We moved out of our house after my grandma died. Then a year after moving, we moved to Paterson for a couple of months."
"I was born in Paterson too."

"Oh really?"

"Yeah, I lived there my whole life. But moving is so hard... Was it hard on you?"
"Well I couldn't make a lasting friend until September. Moving does suck."
"When me and her dad divorced I didn't want her to leave her school, so she's at my house during the week."

"That's cool. After Paterson I moved to Toms River in different areas for a few times, then Bayville and Lacey. Back to Toms River again."

"Oh." Then began another awkward silence until Michelle told me we were picking up her medicine first.

***

After what seemed like 20 minutes, a life time for my anxious waiting to see Heather, we finally pulled into the driveway next to her grandma's car. Michelle's house was one story long and red. It was on a hill, but had a decent backyard. It was a decent house, but I was sure her new house would be better. They were all moving by the end of April in about 2-3 weeks.
I approached the red building with a paitentless excitement. It's been 4 days since I last seen Heather. The day we finally met for the first time. The day we had our first kiss... That indeed was a special day and so was later on tonight, but what was about to go down would be an achievement for me and a special moment to the both of us...

•~•

I opened the door.

I was then greeted by her grandma.

"Hi," I said shyly.

"Hello there," she greeted. "Heather's in the room. She was dancing."
I held back the urge to laugh. I knew she was terrible at dancing. I never got the chance to witness it, but I had no doubt she was indeed awful. I wanted to see the show myself. I literally ran to her room. Two reasons forced this. My excitement couldn't be held back any longer; I waited long enough to see her again. And I wanted to catch the moment of her terrible dancing because she was always careful that I wouldn't see.

Unfortunately I missed the moment, but I did tackle her in my arms and kissed her. For me, it's been an eternity; for her, it's been forever. Whenever I see her, it's a special moment for me and makes our long distance relationship feel more real. Kissing this girl makes every text I've read fill me with joy, now that I finally see her again.

"Hey beautiful I," I mutter into her ear once we break the kiss.

"Hey," she said smiling.

"Okay turn around and close your eyes," I whispered.

"Why?"

"Just do it." I fish into my pocket and pull out the necklace I bought for her yesterday once she finally turned around. I began to put the gift around her neck and try to get the hook thing into one of the holes. My fingers are big and it made attaching the clip to the loop of the necklace even harder. Michelle walked into the doorway and asked if I needed help with it.

"Yeah," I answered. By the time Michelle walked over to help me with the jewelry I finally got it on. "Nevermind."

"Is her eyes supposed to be open?"

Heather...

"Come on Heather! I said keep your eyes closed! Whatever just look now," I said. "That's your late birthday present. The potato was supposed to make you think that was the gift. I know I'm so smart."
I heard that adorable laugh she makes when she is blushing. That mostly happens when I flirt with her.

 "Thank you."

"Who said the surprises ended," I winked, pulling out the piece of paper out of my other pocket. "For you, Grammar Queen."

Again her laugh made me feel lightheaded in that happy way. My heart doesn't stop fluttering. The butterflies became eagles. And these eagles were soaring all over the place.
Heather grabbed the paper I held out to her and began to read. The paper was a very special part of me I needed to share to her because she was responsible for it. When I write poems I prefer to call myself "The Dark Poet" because all the poems I ever personally wrote were dark. Not this one... This poem... The first one I wrote with a happy ending. It was fairly difficult for to write a happy ending, but this poem was about Heather. And Heather was the one person that brought me out of the dark more than others. She filled my desired need to feel alive and loved. Not that my family doesn't love me... I needed someone else besides family to love me. Even if it wasn't in a romantic way. Someone that learns to love me by getting to know me. Someone that went form having no opinion and then a love for me. It was never about attention. Just friends that actually care about me. It's always been hard for me to find the right friends that do care.

I watched her read my poem. And even took a picture of it. When she finally finished all she said was: "I love you."

"Heather. I love you too," I say with honesty in every word.

 My Living Heaven The Poem.

(Taken from my wattpad account. Other version is written on another piece of paper. This was from Heather's paper I gave her.)

My Living Heaven
" I thought I was dead,
But I was alive
I thought today's battle left me at the end of my life thread
Next time I will need more strive
I was lucky no blood was shed
Still feeling sorrow,
And dread,
I had to prepare for the next battle tomorrow
It's been so long. What was the point in still fighting?
Everyday was the same
Battle after battle, I continued recording in my writing
My poems know of each struggle that came
I only believe in hope in each fight
I believe one day I will not feel alone
Of course it isn't easy to defeat your plight,
But I have to because if I died, she would have known
To her I was everything in the world
I was her living Heaven
When we met, our lives whirled,
And now she can't go by one day without saying, Devon
We fell in love on Wattpad,
Then met at a park
She changed me,
For the better
Once upon a time I only wrote
Of my struggles
And all my fights.
Now I write about my light.
The light of my living Heaven
I was trapped in the darkness for too long
She was missing something
I thought I didn't belong,
But she welcomed me, as she was blushing
I fell for Heather after knowing her for about a month
It's crazy true,
But she is my living Heaven"

I thought this was a touching story, the dialogue at the start did slow it down slightly for the beginning, but the ending more than makes up for it! I love the poem, the imagery you can create with simple phrases is amazing. I think the "living Heaven" descriptions are just beautiful. Keep writing, and never stop being inspired by that light!

Hello DevonthePoet!

I like the fact that you wrote this based on a true story, your own memory.
I see someone else already gave you some grammar advice, I noticed a few flaws as well, but I think Holysocks covered for them already.
I think, when you start writing a short story, that you should remember what you want this story to be about. The way it is now, the car ride seems as important as seeing her, because a similar amount of words has been used. I understand that you want to express your nervousness on your way towards her, but I think you could've said it better in just a few sentences.
Other than that I loved the poem and I hope you and Heather are still happy together.

Hello there! :P

This was sweet recounting! Since this is a true story, it's kind of hard to review the plot and all that- since it's fact. But I'll see if I can help you with the flow and grammar perhaps? Even though I'm not suppose to be giving grammar advice.

Even if Heather never told me the type of person she was; I'd probably still be able to tell; but whatever she was hiding wasn't my secret to ask for.

So for this line, you use two semicolons. Semicolons are awesome, but I think - at least for the last one - simply ending the sentence would do you better because it is the end of what you were saying. This part here: but whatever she was hiding wasn't my secret to ask for. Should be one sentence, I believe. :D You can even take out the 'but' if you don't like starting sentences on things like that.

I was sure we both know I would still kiss Heather even of she was sick.

The 'of' in the above sentence should be an 'if'. I thought I saw you do this a couple of times - which is why I decided to point it out - but I'm not sure.

Although Heather inherited some things from Michelle I'd prefer not to be inherited.

What did she inherit from her mother's traits? You simply tell us that she is like her mom in small ways but you didn't give any examples. You did this in the case of her dad too. Btu how? How is she like her dad? What traits don't you not like that she got from her mom? I can understand if you don't want to say the things you dislike about her in here, but what about the things that she got from her dad?

"Well I was born in Paterson and then lived in North Halden,"

"I was born in Paterson too."

I was originally going to say that you repeated that you were born in Paterson, but then I realized that the second time was her mother talking. When writing dialogue, don't be afraid to say who is talking. It isn't boring, or mundane, it just makes it clearer. Clearer is beautiful because then your readers can understand your story! So, do not be afraid to use 'he( 'I' in this case)/she said'.

I'm kind of wondering why we needed to have the scene in the car with Heather's mom. I mean, this is kind of suppose to be a romantic recounting of events (correct me if I'm wrong) but you start off with a car ride with the lady's mom? And it kind of goes on for awhile before we actually get to see Heather. Just something to think about. :3

Other then those few things, I thought this was a lovely story! Nice work, and I look forward to seeing more from you!
