Why I Am Not Beautiful

Warning: This work has been rated 16+ for mature content.

I am not beautiful,
My mirror surely lies.
I am not beautiful,
For there is ugliness inside.

--

I am not beautiful,
Especially when I cry.
I am not beautiful,
I am what society hides.

--

I am not beautiful,
Scream the paths across my wrists.
I am not beautiful,
My mother will not let me forget.

--

I am not beautiful,
I know they all stare.
I am not beautiful,
I tell myself I don't care.

--

"You are not beautiful,"
Society tries
But they cannot hide
The truth from my beautiful eyes.

Great job! This has a great rhythm and the imagery is really nice. It also kind of reminds me of "Phenomenal Woman" by Maya Angelou. Keep writing!

Thank you so much :)

This was such an amazing poem! I think that this poem spreads a message that needs to be sent to more people, Nd I think that people need to start to realize that calling someone ugly or stupid or anything like that affects them. So, how about I shut up and start reviewing this thing

I love the overall idea of this poem. It's realistic. So many people today have insecurities about there looks. One of my really good friends has this problem. She is one of the prettiest girls I know, no lie, and all he sees are problems everywhere. But, everything she says isn't true to anyone else. A part of me would just wish that se could see herself the way other people do.

Also, the length. The length was short and sweet. While other poems can be long and amazing I really liked this length. It kept and easy beat. It was also super easy to read. And the message was one to think about.... I think you nailed it.

Formatting... I am super picky about formatting. I think that poem needs to look as good as the message, and let me just get strait to the point, IT DID! You made you poem look organized and a pleasurable sight to the eye (I know that was a weird way of putting it). But yea the formatting was perfect.

Overall, I think that that this own was beautiful. Also, I just wanted to say hat you are also beautiful, whether or not this poem was about you, I don't think that girls get told this enough, so you are beautiful! You have insane potential so do everyone a favor and keep writing!!

Keep writing bro.

Hey there :)

I really liked this poem. I liked the length of your whole piece, the amount of lines you decided to make each stanza and then how long you made your lines on average. It's just short enough so that it impacts the reader but not too short that it doesn't have enough 'meat' to it if I can describe it that way.

You've chosen quite a good topic, one I think that many people, especially girls, can relate to. It's a sad but true fact that while society calls for individualism and uniqueness among people, it still places restrictions with that free will which is totally hypocritical and leads to mass confusion for those trying to develop themselves and figure who they really are such as is the case with teenagers.

Keep on writing and good luck with your future writing endeavors :)

Thank you so much for the review and positive feedback! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. :)
