The Story Of My Mind

PreviousNext

I have the elements needed to make the story, they ebb and flow down onto the very tips of my fingers.

They swim, then float, then flicker and fly. Slowly growing and changing as I make out the details that influence them all.

In my thoughts I have a character you would all adore. He is one so strong that you willingly stand in his corner though it all; helping him rise one minute and holding his hand as he flies the next. A slightly crooked nose in between strong cheekbones sitting below deep brown eyes. Those eyes don’t stop at just a spark of intelligence, but sing with the depth of wisdom and power. They glimmer with humour and are forever burning with the strong embers of kindness. The mop of soft brown curls that flop to one side when he moves his head add to the boyish charm. He would be tall, athletic and when he smiles it’s not just with his lips and eyes, you can see the happiness seep from every part of his being.

You couldn’t help but admire his honesty, his integrity, his honour. On top of this he would have a name that in every stroke of every letter his very nature would be conveyed. You can’t help but find him witty because he nails that sense of timing. It’s a skill knowing just how to deliver a line that cuts through the extremist of circumstance to the most panicked of person. The world could be falling around at his ankles and yet still I will hear laughter heard out loud as you read.

However, the most precious of moments to each of us would be the close minutes, the quiet ones, between just you and him. Those stretches of precious seconds make you dare to dream of his existence. The times when you know you could help and it’s your hand he needs to hold.

The plot, now that is something to behold. It is striking at the beginning, outrageous in a sense that immediately draws you in. You will be caught in the grip of its subversion as the claws of intrigue slowly sink in. Each turn of the protagonist will slowly unravel the tale; lulling one reader at a time like the lure of sleep to a babe. The story entwines the hopes, the wishes and the dreams of the character inexorably with your own. Each reader is relentlessly compelled to read on, read on.

The story is set in the most fitting of landscapes. The details will be lovingly laid out at every turn. The structure will be built from the letters off the page and held together with the mortar of your mind. Each detail in each crook and each cranny will have the light of words shined upon. It will be the tiniest of elements that will leave the strongest of impressions. Illustrations gradually exposed will leak from your mind’s eye and dribble down your arms until you swear you can feel the roughness of the wall on your very fingertips.

The words will flow across the page with magic concealed until you grasp that first page and merely read. Imagine moments of gasping air and wondrous faces, of tears dribbling then streaming down chins to words, of knuckles clenched at papers edge and laughter untapped ringing in the room.

Time will tick and tock at speeds unseen and yet none of you would notice.

You will turn the last page with dread and read those final words with apprehension. Each person would relate to the increasing feeling of demise that will grow within you. The page is dropped, the letters read, the claws of a tale must slowly extricate from your very soul. It is the end. There is no more and what a finish it will be.

This is the making of my story, the bones of its flesh: each component no further than just inside my head.

Hi. I'm getting the hang of this reviewing thing now.
Let's start with the good points. The detail you go into about your character is awesome. It shows you really know him well. Are you going to write the story you were describing? I get the impression that you could and it would be great to read. I know I would be likely to look at it if it were published. This text has left me expecting to read a powerful work from you someday.
My only issue is your grammar + spelling ( eg. extremist should have been extremest) . To solve this problem you just need to proof read a few times. Otherwise a promising piece.

I like the way you was explaining how great your story will be and how your character will be developed. The main thing I would like to see is the making of the actual book.
I would love to read the story. I cant tell if you was avoiding spoiling the story but I would like to know about the story. Either I missed it or it wasn't there.

Overall, the character seemed to be a little short of a benevolent god. The story is extremely hyped which means it would have high standards to live up to. I admire your confidence and I believe your story will live up to the height.

Hai Crosa, Laure here for a review! This is a very beautiful concept here and nicely written to, so definitely kudos for that. I always love reading these pieces about the process of writing and what you imagine it to be like, it is very fascinating to see authors at work.

Technical things:

you willingly stand in his corner though it all

Though should be through, I don't know what though it all means.

each component no further than just inside my head.[b/]

'....that just inside my head' sounds like an incomplete sentence. I think you may have missed out on 'that just [b]thoughts .

I'm not big on grammar and spelling, so I don't tend to go into detail.

Content:

This is where I tend to massacre people with.

I disagree with Fade says, I thought the ending was actually one of the best parts since it depicts what a lot of the readers feel when they reach or about to reach the end of a book. Especially if is a trilogy, you know that the author will be likely leave you on a cliff-hanger and is even worse when you don't have the next book.

However, one of the sections where I did found a bit boring was here.

That whole bit about the boy character, seemed to just ramble on about how wonderful and witty he has which really pisses me of a bit. I know this story is about you, however this characters is starting to border on a Gary sue, a golden boy with the perfect looks. I keep reading for at least some flaws that would make him a plausible character. I mean a paragraph is fine just to get a feel, but two just feels like you're worshipping him.

Overall, this is a very interesting and unique idea, I think you can probably go way in depth with this if you wanted to. Is a very interesting concept, so keep up the good work!

Hi,

Thanks for the review and I agree on the content about the character. After first writing it I felt I needed to fill it out because there was really little about him, but I think I might have overcompensated. After publishing it up and re-reading I was considering stripping it down so I'm glad you gave me that feedback.

Great review so thanks for taking the time it was really helpful and I appreciate the constructive criticism within. I'm big on constantly reviewing my content and agree with not getting to in detail with grammar as it can be easily fixed later.

So thanks again.

-Crosa

No problem, glad I managed to help you.

Wow, just wow. You have a really amazing work here. I love how you get into the detail and the soul of it.
The only criticism i can think of is the length. It got the slightest bit boring after a good while. So, I would say maybe shortening it up a little would help, but otherwise, GREAT!

P.S. Sorry if I offended you, it's my first review. But you rock!

Thanks and no offence taken at all!

My life's goal is to end up between YWS quotes on bottom of the page, so some part of me will be able to live forever here.
