Lady Justice

In Poetry

Cold and hard.
Silently, you dictate to me
My lifestyle, emotions.
Blindly, i follow your lead.

Stepping stone to failure,
You pose as precurser to success.
The gluttonous craves the ascetic.
The narcissist becomes the masochist.

You seep into the spaces
between my rational thoughts,
And plant self doubt,
Which blossoms into self loathing:

Every flaw counted,
measured and valued.
My life in numbers.
My worth in pounds.

Overall, I like it. It's an interesting commentary on the human condition and overall I feel it works well. As a whole though, I feel like this type of poem would benefit from the use of traditional rhyme and meter. Perhaps iambic tetrameter with an ABAB rhyme scheme? It would hold the poem together better and make it stronger. Also, I agree with the first reviewer--the title confuses me. That said, good work. You have an excellent command of words and it's a strong place to start from.

You're talented. Keep writing and editing and it'll pay off!

Not sure why this is called "Lady Justice" since it seems to me more about personal doubt and confusion. Anyway. It was an interesting poem. The first stanza starts out a little cliche'. It seems like you could think up something rather then 'cold and hard' to describe this. The 'I' in the first stanza needs to be capitalized.

The second stanza had a lot of big words, and I didn't understand half of them. The big words don't seem to fit into the rest of the poem well, since they are only in the 2nd stanza.

The last two stanzas, eh, well. Didn't really notice anything wrong with them, but then again, this poem seems reasonably solid overall.

This is definitely an overused topic, but then again EVERYTHING out there is. Sorta. So what you do in a case like that, you have to make some part of it original, something that'll catch my attention. It's not too bad, but I felt like I read it before, and the big words threw me off in the middle.

Keep writing and good luck!

It's a pity the dictionary has only one definition of beauty. In my world, there are 7.9 billion types of it- all different and still beautiful.
