a tribute to a friend

****i figured i'd stick a rating on this baby, since it's about drugs, but it doesn't have any language or whatnot.****

there is something so soothing
about rolling joints on perfect summer days.
something so poetic and utterly adolescent
about the licking, the rolling, the concentration.

lie back and inhale, replace the air,
filled with the scent of fresh cut lawns
in perfect white picket fenced homes,
with a more rebellious taste
and imagine yourself in an edgy indie film.

your eyes water, you cough.
you sink into a haze where reality
is just an abstract thought, a world you lived in
a long time ago.

you are filled with a great love for
every single person around you and
nothing has ever been as beautiful as that dog!
that dog! so free! its fur so shiny!
but you are filled also with an edgy, nervous paranoia:
is the dog working for the police?

the press of a boy's fingertips
against your neck, the touch of his lips.
you are aware of it happening,
aware that you are being kissed and touched
but you cannot feel it, you feel removed from this moment.

fumbling hands feel so warm against your
private, secret skin that you have only briefly seen yourself
in the moment between undressing and dressing.
you feel a tingle of anticipation and then in a sudden moment
you think maybe you have had an epiphany.
you reach to grab the thought,
but it is already gone.

later you will stumble home,
adjusting your t-shirt and bra.
you will stumble into bed and sleep for a day
and inside your pretty little princess's wooden box
you will hide your secret stash
and feel secure in the knowledge that
when reality starts to hurt your head again
in those plastic bags lies another release, another day of escape.

This is good. I like it. It seems to capture addiction pretty well and the way you lose yourself in it. I wouldn't know either. But from what I know of my friends, this is excellent.

haha I loved this. You seem to get the whole feeling correct (not that I'd know). But yeh, it reminds me of a friend that I know and isn't poetry great when it relates so well? Good job.
