Poet's soul

by CatSamuelson

Published July 11, 2011

White sunlight peaks above the windowsill
Onto the pages of the book she drinks.
In breathless reverie she sits until
The story's close--her heart within her sinks.
What beauty lies upon the vellum page,
What mystery and secrets may unveil
Themselves to her parched soul in her gilt cage.
Imagination in her now sets sail.
Narnia, Paris, Camelot entwine
Seductive threads around her wand'ring soul,
She dreams of knights and elves and courtiers fine,
Envisions fairies dancing on the knoll.
And as she finds the ending cause to mourn
A poet's soul within her chest is born.

Normally I figure out if poem was written by a professional by how long it takes me to figure out what it's actually saying. Your poem took me awhile, so to me, you write poetry like a pro. Which is a really good thing! I really liked it! Don't stop writing!

This was pretty good - I haven't seen a sonnet around these parts in too long. Very nice, and I think you've done some great work with imagery too, so keep writing my friend.

....That' the best piece of poetry I've seen in a very, and I mean a very long time. Wow, I can't even breath lliterally! This needs to be somewhere, in some book, in the news for heaven's sake! OMG That was amazing! *ends ranting*

That really was remarkable. Your words are amazing! This is one of those poems where the reader goes "I wish I'd thought of that!"

Onto the pages of the book she drinks. Now that is some good description.
In breathless reverie she sits until
The story's close--her heart within her sinks.
What beauty lies upon the vellum page,
What mystery and secrets may unveil
Themselves to her parched soul in her gilt cage.
Imagination in her now sets sail.
Narnia, Paris, Camelot entwine MY FAVORITE LINE!
Seductive threads around her wand'ring soul,
She dreams of knights and elves and courtiers fine, SECOND FAVORITE LINE!
Envisions fairies dancing on the knoll.
And as she finds the ending cause to mourn
A poet's soul within her chest is born.
Epic ending!

I really have nothing more to say other than you've taken my breath away. I'm going to remember this one always!
