Abigail & Karley: Part 3- The Aftermath (Final Part)

PreviousNext

Abigail woke the following morning feeling incredibly weary. She stretched her arms before heading to get herself some breakfast. Opening her fridge and cabinets, she sighed upon realizing she didn’t have much food currently. Abigail went back to her bedroom to get her phone, checking messages in the process of ordering food. She had a few unread messages from Karley but she hesitated to read them. After placing the order, her thumbs danced over the messages. As she was about to open the thread of messages, Abigail gets a call from an unknown number.

She stares at her screen, her heart racing in her chest. There isn’t many people that have her number that she doesn’t have saved in her contacts. Who could this be? As her mind scours for ideas, the display disappears. She considers sending the number a text, asking who they are or how they got her number, but she decides against it. Instead, she decided to just leave it be for now. She navigated back to the messages from Karley and opened them with apprehension.

10:00pm: “I can’t believe u left me during our date.”

10:30pm: “Can u at least text me back?”

7:00am: “Good morning.”

7:45am: “What, so now ur just ignoring me completely? I didn’t even do anything wrong.”

Upon reading the last message from Karley, Abigail clenched her jaw in frustration. She took a few deep breaths before typing a reply.

8:23am: “Hi. No, I’m not ignoring you. I was sleeping. However, you very much did do something wrong last night, so yes, I left early. You must have been too drunk to realize, or remember for that matter, what you did.”

After hitting send, Abigail felt her heart racing again as she heard a car pulling to her home. She carefully peeked out a window and breathed a sigh of relief when it was just her food delivery. The delivery person carefully set the food down near Abigail’s door and snapped a quick photo. After they drove away, she grabbed the food and locked the door again.

She sat on the couch and turned on the TV while retrieving her food from the bag. As she searched for something to watch, she felt her phone buzz. Assuming it was just a delayed notification of her food delivery, she ignored it and instead focused on eating breakfast before work. After eating, she went back upstairs to get dressed. She dug out her work clothes from the closet and one of her perfumes, putting them both on. Even if she felt horrible, she didn’t want to look or smell horrible.

Abigail left for work, trying to feel better about the events from last night. She ran her fingers through her hair with a sigh. Was she being too harsh? Should she give Karley another chance? Abigail looked at her phone to see if Karley replied, and she had.

8:31am: “I didn’t even have much to drink. I couldn’t have been to drunk to realize. I jst didn’t do anything, ur lying.”

Abigail rolled her eyes, putting her phone away as she entered her work building. She went to her office and set her things underneath her desk before tidying up a bit. Someone had likely been in her office looking for something, but she didn’t mind too much, as a mess hadn’t been made. Once she finished tidying up, she went to the fridge to get a bottle of water.

She had many thoughts racing through her mind, most of them about Karley. Should she bother trying to reason with her? Would it be worth it to explain to her what she did the night before, or would Abigail simply be wasting her time? Abigail let out a soft sigh and tapped her fingers along her desk.

The day felt long and tiring to Abigail, but it was finally time to go home. She started her walk but along the way she started to feel very uneasy. She looked around, taking note of all the faces she could see and where they were looking. Abigail picked up her pace, wanting to be safely at home.

After arriving, she rushed to lock her doors and make sure her windows were closed. Once everything was secure, she sat down and relaxed a bit. She reached for her phone to finally reply to Karley.

4:18pm: “You did, but I’m not arguing about this. You had a chance and you blew it by getting too drunk and assaulting me. Have a great day.”

After hitting send, Abigail considered blocking Karley but she was worried it would do more harm than good. For now, she left her unblocked. To occupy her mind, Abigail picked up a controller for her game system and started playing one of her favorite games: a survival building game where monsters spawn in at night and you have to gather resources by digging down in the world and exploring the over- and underworld areas.

Abigail felt herself relaxing more and more as she played the game, getting lost in the vastness of it. Before she knew it, several hours had passed and she felt rather hungry. She considered ordering food again, but she thought it better to save her money and cook at home. She opened her fridge to see what she had, which was mostly the classics of milk, eggs, and butter. She also had some meat that she could cook and some pasta dishes in the pantry. As she waited on the water to boil for her food, she checked her phone.

4:22pm: “I told u I didn’t drink to fucking much.”

4:34pm: “U can’t just leed me on like this”

4:36pm: “Answer me”

4:47pm: “Abigail pls I’m srry”

6:30pm: “Give me another chance pls”

Abigail returned her focus back to the food, adding in some of the next ingredients required and setting her phone aside. She continually stirred the dish, getting lost in her thoughts once more. After finishing the dish, she scooped some out into a bowl for herself and sat down.

7:12pm: I kno u saw my messages”

7:27pm: “Whatever ur boring anyways”

Abigail let out a soft chuckle as she rolled her eyes, looking for something to watch as she eats. She surfed through the channels until she found something halfway decent, but before eating she decided to send one last message to Karley before blocking her.

7:36pm: “Ah, yes. The classic of ‘I’m not getting my way so I’m going to insult you,’ how mature. You had great potential but you need to work on self control when it comes to drinking and how to respect boundaries. I wish you the best and I hope you don’t treat your next date the way you’re treating me.”

After blocking Karley’s number, Abigail felt at peace. Sure, maybe she should have just blocked her and left well enough alone. But maybe her message will be what Karley needs to be a better person. Nonetheless, it’s none of Abigail’s concern.

After eating and watching her show, Abigail played her game for another few hours to wind down before bed. She set a timer for herself so she wouldn’t stay up late as she had work in the morning. Letting herself get lost in the game again, the sound of her timer going off startled her. She saved her game and turned the system off, getting up to stretch.

Abigail went to get some pajamas and get ready for bed. She took a quick shower and applied a lotion before bundling up under her blanket and drifting off to sleep for the night. Abigail slept soundly through the night, not having anything to worry about tomorrow except work.

It’s been a while =D

Interesting that she eventually does break and answer Karkey’s message, hmmm
I know it was a nice evening until the incident and all but I feel like there are probably so many other ppl out there and that it’s a mistake for poor Abigail to focus so hard on Karley. Aww

Oha, is that normal? “Someone had likely been in her office looking for something” o_o

Pheww I am so glad she ended up blocking Karley. I hope Karley learns something from this…

But I do think that… for how little happens in this final chapter, there is not really that much plot? It feels like what happened here, should have happened in the previous chapter, which would have made the story a lot more well-rounded overall :3

I do like the final paragraph. It does convey peacefulness very well ^^

Hello there, human! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!

Shalt we commence with the macabre S’more?

Top Graham Cracker - Abigail is still getting texts from Karley, who has not taken the hint or doesn’t seem to care. Abigail lets her know how she feels while still going about her day and in the end, she cuts ties! :>

Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - You wrote an O for “want” when it’s the part where Abigail did not want to smell or look bad in work, but that is just one little thing.

Chocolate Bar - I like that Abigail didn’t respond to Karley immediately, it shows that she needed time to think and I don’t blame her for needing the time. I think that she did all that she could and handled the situation really well! Maybe Karley will change, maybe she won’t, but it’s not up to Abigail anymore. And I liked seeing her play video games too, that was nice!

Closing Graham Cracker - Overall, a fantastic conclusion to this story. I enjoyed reading this and I am really glad that Abigail turned out okay. I might check out other short stories you’ll post if you want to, and now…

I wish you a fabulous day/night! ^v^

Thank you! I%u2019m glad you enjoyed reading it, and I fixed the typo you pointed out. :3
