I breathe air,
and release it in heavy fumes.
I sizzle beneath a cold hand,
and intoxicate all who breathe me in.
My fumes are like a deadly breath of poison,
they cloud vision,
and can be used to signal for help.
Or maybe to keep unwanted company away.
I sound like a dry leaf being stepped upon,
and I have a smell that all with recognize,
for I am deadly, and many flee before me,
afraid that I may cast my hurt upon them.
I am dangerous.
I spread quickly, especially in times of drought.
My long fingers reach and stretch,
desperate to destroy something else.
But the irony of it all is,
I am also life.
Without me, nothing would be alive today.
I am the very core of this world.
Now tell me,
What am I?

Ooh! Fire?!?! This is probably the only riddle I've ever successfuly solved without any guidance. I thought you hade some really good word choice and imagery in this poem. I liked how you talked about the irony of fire: deadly, yet life-giving and life-saving. This was really interesting! Nice job! I didn't have any technical corrections to give.
Lol
Yes, it's fire. Thanks for the review. I'm really glad you liked it.
I love this! I like how it is obvious yet difficult at the same time. I think that my favourite thing about this is that it's words and clues keep the reader reading as they sit on the edge of the seat, guessing and enjoying the riddle. The grammar in this is also pretty good as you use interesting words like unwanted and intoxicate. I have no nitpicks or problems that I can find hurray!
I would guess but unfortunately I read the comments before reviewing...oops! :p
An amazing poem!
Thats all from me,
Godly
Haha,
thanks so much for the review.
I'm going to guess fire. (I wouldn't be surprised if I were wrong, I am horrible at riddles!
) I did enjoy this poem!
......wait.....*looks down at other comments/reviews* *realizes Kelpies has gotten the correct answer* Well, at least I know I have gotten the right answer!
I really like it! Good job, and keep writing!!

Thanks for the review. <3
Fire?
Yup!
Yay! XD
Great riddle! I was leaning towards dragon but then I read the comments. I still don't feel stupid however because dragons are cool.
Thanks!
Anytime
Bookwolf!
I'm sorry, but I have a fundamental disagreement with this poem:
if I were to breathe fire, I'd be a dragon! And how cool would that be? <3
fire i'm guessing, due to the smoke signal and forest fire references?
lovely though
Correct!
<3
Aww and im usually so crappy at riddles! yay!
Let me take a guess.... Volcano? It can't be cigarette since it only takes life, does not give...
Okay...if my guess is right or close, your poetic parameters are amazing, let me tell you that... your poem has a good flow and feel... its an absolute bliss reading your poem...
I have nothing to criticize about your poem...
Keep writing!!
Hehe, you're really close.
Cigarette? Or just fire? I guessed cigarette because you were saying how toxic it is...
Well, its not a cigarette because they don't create life.
Your other answer is correct though.
Ok
